It comes off as bad writing that the primarch who's all in on sorcery and demonology can't wrangle demons via non-physical means. Although, it's 40k and nothing makes sense. One space marine takes nukes to the chest and is unphased the next is brought down by a human with a katana.

To be fair he was for decades following big E and not so much his own stuff so he basically indoctrinated himself into using Big E as a battery which hates that especially then and this was a weaker Big E.
Everyone else used warp stuff, and this was Lorgar just at most getting a wiff of it

it's pretty much the entirety of the 40k fandom, fans don't care about consistency which is why 40k as an IP is hard to adapt to games or films because suddenly some quality control is required

I did hear a theory that Lorgar is researching "Enuncia." If this is true, that he has been learning Enuncia for the last 10,000, then he will become one of the most powerful beings in all of fiction. He could create his own enuncia words. He would be able to warp reality in ways most can't comprehend.
Lorgar would be the Doctor Manhattan of the 40k universe...
