- Welp, the anime has now "entered the second movie", so to speak, and NOW things will get tricky. Arslan I adapted the novel pretty faithfully for the most part (maybe making some of the battles less ludicrous), but Arslan II on are much looser adaptations. As such, choosing which scenes to compare is a little hard, but, here we go.

It's interesting to see both versions sid-by-side. Though what's funny is how The 1992 version of Silver Mask looks kind of like Meta Knight.

I prefer the old version series and OVA. What I liked about the new one is because they focus more in depth on the storyline.

The new one looks more realistic, so it's interesting to watch them as a series/movie. Two of them has their own good points, and they're beautiful in their own way

No matter how old they are both animes did an amazing job making a realistic middle eastern anime something like the kingdom of heaven movie or 300, i loved the medieval wars and i just wish their were more medieval anime with no magical powers or mythical creatures but just human beings and regular weapons such as swords and bows.

I like how the new series actually looks like the time and place it the setting was based on instead of a generic 90's RPG.
I like how the in the new series, characters actually emote (especially noticeable with Alfreed)
I like how in the new series, Elam wears pants.
Honestly, it really depends on the scene when they're emoting. Sometimes the new anime's expressions are... really generic. You can see it in the previous video with the goddam sparkles on Gieve. And in some scenes the 1990s characters do emote better - you can definitely see it in the scene where Arslan and Daryun are hiding in the rafters how Daryun gets angry when he hears that Vahriz is dead. Then again, the 1992 one did the "wolf tooth" thing on Alfreed, so shrug there.
Each anime was a product of its time. The 90s one had way less detail, the 90s color palette, and some 90s generic stuff, while the 2015 one has more exaggerated designs (see the archpriest with his flat, painted-on face), some generic 2010s stuff, and so on. Personally, I prefer the music and cinematography of the 90s one, while I prefer the colors, attention to realism, and backgrounds of the new one (as well as more fluid animation, the digital age has definitely improved on that). Oh, and the use of light in the 90s one was fantastic - really that seems to have been lost in modern anime. You don't see the same kind of lighting any more. I couldn't imagine the zoom out of the gem on arslan's helmet happening in a modern anime. Oh, and the horses. For no particular reason, they just feel more horse-y in the 90s. I do slightly prefer the 90s character designs, but that's more a matter of taste than anything else.

2015 designs definitely look Japanese, while 1992 has a more western fantasy look.
2015 look more like a persia than the 1992 that look like a medieval britania fantasy

The new version has a better tragic scene part with emotions. But this humans have not Magic power and this world is not Fantasy. It's just a War Anime like others with same-face characters.

i prefer new version art style since it feels more like in Persia, especially in character's clothing. The old version looks too fantasy for me
@shadowshinobi06 but it's still a representative of Persia, heck even some of names of cities are real and they exist in modern day Iran, even the map looks like it was taken straight away from the real world persia
@shadowshinobi06 I'm not defending the accuracy I'm just saying that it's basically a fictional persia based on persian legends. The armies are not accurate a one bit except for their shields and the architecture is based on after Islam persia while everything else is based on pre Islamic persia
@@dolfyhilter577 Well, they got more or less right the overall aesthetic. Pars armies seems to be heavily inspired on Parthia, and its kinda cool. Always keeping in mind that its a fantasy setting, of course.

@shadowshinobi06 the only difference between 300 and this is that at least here they call it pars but in 300 they just straightforward say persia, which is why so many Persians were pissed off
Ep 1-3 of Dust Storm Dance correspond to OVAs 5&6 as both are based on novel 5. One final comparison can still be made.
In parts 1 and 2 of this video series, the original looked better, but when the new one is up against 1992, I think I might like the new better. The scene with Alfreed had much more action and facial emotion in the new version.

I actually think 1992 Arslan looks even girlier than 2015 Arslan at times, even though 1991 Arslan manages to look young and unsure of himself without that. I'm okay with bishonen, but this is a win for 1991 over 2015 over 1992 in my book.
I still like the older version. What makes the newer one better is the storyline told much more in depth.
I prefer previous Narsus, Previous Farangis... Makes more sense and the Tahamine in the older version covered in silk is a lot more soft on the eyes then magic cleavage clothes.

True to some extent, but it doesn't change that fact that their roles are still the same even in the old one!
Ger Vang I'd argue that she was more of a priestess without the tiny pieces of fabric covering her and she was simply in a suit of armor like any normal person in battle would wear and that the new Narsus is more of a pretty boy then the old one. If you told me either new Narsus or old Narsus was a female, I would guess new Narsus. Though I think both were designed to have somewhat delicate features and I think that's a trait of him being of noble birth and raised a tactician rather then a warrior.

I am still wondering why people literally fight in the comments with this. Why can't they see good and bad things in both versions? Everyone is complaining about Farangies being half naked (which sure, is unpractical for battle), but she's dressed like that because of the LN cover. Also, what do you think will happen if Arakawa gave her proper clothes? People would say "Its childish to give a woman modest clothes because she can wear revealing clothes if she want". I honestly like her design, tho I still believe she can die in battlefield since she doesn't have any protection. But Narsus, Alfarid and Elam doesn't have them either...
Talking about Narsus, people are complaining about how he looks in Arakawa's design, because he looks like a "pretty boy". He friggin doesn't. In fact, his facial features and body type makes him look even older than he actually is (he's supposed to be 26 but at least in the anime he looks like a 28-year-old), and his role as a genius tactitian is respected and never toned down because of his looks. He's still wise, a genius and the devil at the same time, and a good person with morals, he's also Arslan's teacher and Elam's "foster father". Alfarid got obsessed with him because of his intelligence, not his looks! Damn it! I admit I like him because of his design, but I also appreciate his character. He's lighthearted, quite smart and intelligent, wise and a good guide for Arslan. And I'm not saying the original one is bad, I do like it, he looks like a royal in his 90's rendition (and he is a royal, I think), and the brown hair fits him perfectly.
Also people complaining about Farangies wearing that while being a priestess... This isn't based in "real-life history" so maybe these clothes aren't seen as "bad" in her temple, or maybe she wears something more modest in the temple! But, here's a thing: In "real-life history", she CAN'T be a priestess in Mithra's temple, because women can't be priestesses of Mithra, only men can show devotion to him. But Arslan Senki is a *historical fantasy*, this is why Mithra's temple is full of women (and Farangies herself said that).
Alfarid looks much mature in the old version. And the long hair fits her, too. Both of them look cute, tho.
Because not everything is the same. Some things are better than other things.
My problem with design of Farangies is that her revealing costume doesn't really fit her personality.
@@iwatchDVDsonXbox360 There is a less revealing one, actually, that imo looks kinda better than the one she has by default. It's still revealing but not as much. It was the one used for the musical as well.

Full Metal Alchemist is great.. Unfortunately her style just doesn't do it for me with Arslan. I don't like how babyish he looks, all of the 1992 scenes looked so much better, as well as the character designs of Sachiko Kamimura, which fit perfectly with Arslan..

Surprising enough this came out during the VHS era.
In this story, his father lived. And two new characters were introduced.

I watched the original ova back in 2005 as far as the 2015 version, all I can ever see is FullMetal cosplay going on here.
Yoshitaka Amano's Arslan is like Warrior of Light in the original Final Fantasy, and Gieve is seriously Firion (FFII) xD

The old version is the BEST overall! Simply no room for comparison! Nowadays anime are so lame and cheesy. The late 80's and 90's Japanimation's character design/animation art style is just love!

I prefer the art style and animation of the second one (2015-2016 one). The girlish drawings of Narsus and Elam in the original is disturbing. Aside from that the original isn't bad, I just prefer the newer one. However, Farangis needs clothes in the new one.

Im currently watching the new Legend of Arslan ( after some minutes i just stopped this video to avoid possible spoiler ) and i watched the whole season 1 and 4 episodes of season 2 ( so actually all episodes i could find ). How many more episodes are there going to be and is it actually airing right now ? ( a week ago season 2 had like 3 episodes and now i watched the fourth one ) I actually enjoy it way way way more then i first thought.
The heavy use of cgi in the new one really bothers me but I still watch it anyway.
Change of the times. I'll always prefer the old school way.

It just can't bro. Its too different. Yoshitaka Amano's design, art, can't be compared. I look at Arakawa-San's artstyle, and I just...no man. No. Its too...generic. Sorry Arakawa-San. Amano-San's is just out of this world
I can appreciate the newer one for fleshing out some scenes, but goodness do I wish they stuck with some of the finer charms of the older version. I get it, though, the changes of designs, acting, story tweaks, etc... they were made to satisfy the "weebs" and this generation's anime lovers. But well... the majority of anime fans have become the sometimes self-destructive, sometimes overwhelming, fans they are today... Which is disappointing to me and changes the industry's... demographic, I suppose? All in all, though, I have to admit... I'm happy that this series was noticed and "polished up" at all (especially over a decade after the mini TV series ended.) Some things are lost to time, and I'm glad that this wasn't one of them. So, us older generations of anime fans... we gotta suck it up, I guess. Overall, they can't satisfy EVERYONE. Keep trying, fans and companies and mangaka and anime artists the like. Maybe we'll reach another golden age of anime soon.

I still think the older series were better. I too felt depressed couple of years ago when I found out they didn't finished it due mainly budgeting and various other reasons. I'm glad that the new version focus more in depth on the storyline. Though the new one is better. I still like the older one.

小説好きの自分は昔の方がしっくりくるな、中東のペルシア文化をモデルにしてるのをしっかり表現してるし昔ながらの何処かリアル描写が小説の世界観とマッチしてる、殿下も絶世の美男子ってのも忠実に描いてる。漫画から入った層は2015の方がシックリくるんだろうけどね。まぁ要は小説の原作を忠実に描いた1991版と漫画をベースとした2015版の違いと好みかな。
