アルスラーン戦記って名前はしってたけど、いかにも少年漫画っぽいデザインで今まで興味持てなかった。
でもまさか初期のアニメはこんなに艶っぽい魅力的なキャラデザとクオリティだったなんて・・・。いい作品に出会えた。ありがとうありがとう・・・！
やはりこちらの方が絵も声も音楽も全てがイイ！綺麗で空気感がすごく好き

arslan is so gorgeous! i like it! i came from the Arslan Senki 2015 but this is awesome too. this Arslan look more dependable too

I love both art styles but this Arslan looks like someone I would actually follow. In the new one everyone looks like they are following some kid around instead of a grown adult.
Michael Kazmierczak technically he is only 14 years old so he is a kid and I think that in the newer version Arslan grows so much by his tasks from episode to episode it’s nice to see
Tell me about it, this right here looks like a real medieval or ancient general while arslan in the new one looks like a fantasy general that is a little kid basically making the experience more annoying.
Kinda the point, he IS a child. In actuality Arslan in the anime is actually closer to the novel than this OVA though it does take some liberties. The whole point of the novel is Arslan learning to become a good king. Of them all though if you can't read the novels the Arslan Senki manga currently running is probably the closest to the novels plot while using the animes style.
*Minor Spoilers* Back to the point there's a timeskip in the novels after his coronation at which point he's older (almost 19) and while he retains his righteous nature and kindness towards others he's far more conscious of the world and merciless when his subjects are threatened. In short he DOES become someone worth following and those who have followed him show this. It's far clearer in the novel/manga that early on they're basically following him purely out of fealty but that by the later novels once he's actually proven himself they follow him because he's become a reliable person, the anime kinda rushed that part
*tl'dr* - I don't think the novels would have worked nearly as well if he had been reliable from the very beginning as he seems here. The fact he had to grow from a child and prove himself to his subjects made the fact they followed him into some truly dire situations later on more impactful.
@@Goldenkitten1 any idea where to read the novels? i don't think they have been officially translated to english so i was relying on fan translations. but most of them are incomplete
As a fan of Arakawa, I concur. She wasted her time with Arslan. After seeing Yoshitaka Amano's illustration and this, the 90s aesthetic fits Arslan so much better than Arakawa's. Her style is unsuitable for epics. I would even go as far as to say her adaption of Arslan ruined the image of the series, and a massive mistake by the publisher. The original novel illustration by Amano was beyond fantastic, and while the 90s comic version can't quite measure up, it wasn't marketed as heavily as Arakawa's. I thought someone like Clamp of the 90s might have given the series the edge and mystique it needed.
This was the second anime I was ever exposed to, I'd only seen the ending of this episode, and spend on and off almost the following 30 years trying to find it. So glad I found it, and so glad it's better than I remembered

This set a new anime benchmark for 11-year-old me. Having been exposed only to Pokemon and DBZ at that point (early 2000). Blockbuster had it in their animation section. And it was GOOOOOOOOOD.

I know it’s old comment but I will just write that this is ova and many ova’s are very good quality not all of them but for example this one is, features very good quality art and animation, some series that aren’t ova’s won’t be made the same way.
Their is anime like this, I’ve been watching knights of sidonia and it has the similar aspect which is what I love. I love the cgi and it isn’t allways laggy like other cgi anime I’ve watched. Trust me watch it you won’t be disappointed!!!
@@thepokemontrainer6094 There are no more animations made like this. And if there are. They no longer have amazing stories like these. Ashita no Joe and Legend of the Galactic Heroes (I think it's the same created as this OVA) to name a few.

I had this on VHS back in the 90's and came here on a nostalgic whim. I didn't even know that they had made a new one. I'll defiantly have to check it out, Thank you to everyone in the comments and to nezuhi for the upload.

The thing I liked about this anime version is that the characters actually look like people from ancient times. Unlike other anime where they like to mix.
This is beautiful, it's a shame they couldn't finish this adaptation.

No. The old is prettier while the new one is better looking. End of story. Stop the nostalgia blinding. Each anime is amazing and both is really beautiful. And as a bonus the new anime isn't scared to show gore for the early parts and is FAR more accurate to the novel.
Actually old anime showed many more small scenes, that gave some humanity to the random soldiers, giving much more context to their disapproval and morality confronted to their leader's actions compared to the new... also Gieve got 4 or 5 arrows to hit, instead of 1 headshot.
I would say that a lot of old animation is better but art in new anime is better. New anime doesnt have as much of a focus on the animation as much as the quality of the art imo. Very few put as much effort into making complex and dynamic scenes because everything has gone digital.
It's a pity they never finished this OVA series. I liked the design of Silvermask in this series

Those designs reminds me of the concept art for SNES Final Fantasy.
you can thank their concept artist(yoshitaka amano) from 1 to 6 and you were not wrong in that.
As a fan of the original OVA's back in the early 90's, then later a fan of FF, I was so pleased to learn Amano was actually the concept artist behind Arslan Senki. I love his stuff.

While I love both adaptations equally, I feel like this version depected the salty relationship between Daryun and Narsus better than the remake.
At the very least Farangis was not scantily clad here.

I watched this when I was in middle school not knowing the ending theme song was played by Mimori Yusa. One of the best ending theme songs in anime. Never gets old.
So strongly influenced by Yoshitaka Amano's art. Rightfully too!
I see more Yasuhiko Yoshikazu influence on that one (see the movie Arion you will see)

Well, that explains why this series has a MASSIVE FF/FE vibe. Though this feels more like FF and the new one feels more FE.

Seth Budrik i agree, late. Way late, but the person who does the new one is the same person as hero tales and full metal alchemist and i honesty like the illustrators sleek look. But never played final fantasy.
i think amano-san was proud(or respect) of arakawa's rendering arslan.

I decided to watch this just to kill some time, but then I saw the Arabic on one of the scrolls being burnt and had to know where the story took place. Found out it's loosely based on a Persian epic from the 19th century, so of course I want to read the original story too.

Arslan de 2015 é adorável mas eu tenho que admitir que o Arslan de 1991 é ridiculamente charmoso, também parece mais firme mas continua gentil (acho que é uma descrição boa o suficiente já que eu não faço ideia de o que está sendo falado).

The tv series characters designs are closer to the manga but the movie and ovas have far better music

I absolutely love the art and music... But the character development/relationships? All you can really say is, they've shown up. x)
Though, I do think leaving that partly to the imagination makes for classy storytelling.

i like the original manga version better because this anime ova was based on the novel series the ova anime Didn't finish back in the 90 was so Disappointment for fan back in that time that why i love the new series which was the original manga series from the manga back in the 90 now into a anime will watch them to the last episode unlike this anime that Didn't Finish

art style is definitely better. Absolutely disagree with anyone talking about the animation though. The scale is significantly smaller than the series and even one on one there isn't a whole lot going on. It does have very good direction though

Persia is not synonymous with "Middle East". Persia is more Central Asia, Iran and the Caucasus - whereas the political term known as _Middle East_ includes North Africa, the Arabian peninsula and the Levant - which *TOTALLY* differ from Persians and Persia. (Iran is a plateau and not a flat land desert like Iraq, Egypt or Saudi Arabia)
And tbh, the new Arslan played more on the stereotypical bullshit (like lumping Persia with dozens of other cultures in the "Middle East") and portrayed Ecbatana (modern day Hamedan) as a desertic Oasis with palm trees and beduins running around; when in reality, Hamedan is *mountainous* and snow falls constantly in winter and Persians weren't desert dwelling Bedouins wearing robes. Persians wore boots and pants. Heck, even the Greeks portrayed them wearing boots and pants. Persians don't wear the Arabic Abayas and diapers on their heads as the new Arslan is suggesting. In all fairness this "old version" is more accurate in terms of portrayal of ancient Sassanians or Parthians. Just Google it.
@@marmary5555 I think they were reliant on Abbasid culture for clothing design for the troops also in the new anime they were wearing pants they just have tunics on top of it. The old one is the one where they don't wear pants and resemble more like Mycenean armor of the bronze age or Indo-Persian armor of the 11th- 12th Century.
