  • Well, let's see a little more. Now with the debut of Gieve and Farangis......'s very eristical new garments '=D
    The first note is kind of pointless. Most of those scenes were greatly expanded in the 2015 anime/Arakawa manga.

    I feel like I'm the only one who likes the new one because of the more realistic designs... Maybe it's because I love the history behind both Persia and the Sassanid empire as well as the crusades, so the newer design makes sense to me

      I feel really bad for Persia.
      Ever since they existed as a society they were always against forced religion and were always freaking surrounding by religion, from the north the Crusaders, from the south the muslims. They could never get a break unless they had someone really strong like Cyrus the great who could run an empire that big.
      It's a lot easier to attack a big nation than it is to sustain it and other kings of Persia just didn't have the talent that Cyrus had.

    • @Guciom
      @Guciom Před 7 lety +3

      You do realize that Persians had there own religion and beliefs that they where pushing on other people to? Also, they did there fair share of conquering and genocide.

    • @ThinkAbstract
      @ThinkAbstract Před 7 lety +8

      They actually didn't.
      Cyrus the great banned prejudice or pushing of one singular religion, plus you couldn't become a Zoroastrian, u had to be born into it.
      Infact the reason Cyrus is so popular, much with Persia, is that they never ever enforced their beliefs onto other nations even while conquering and being that powerful. They had bad leaders before, I'm sure every history line does, but after Cyrus the good outweighed the bad

    Kinda 50/50 on which designs I prefer. But the cinematography is so much better in the old one. It is practically a lesson on when to use close ups vs. when to use distance shots. Look at the scene where Gieve meets the queen (4:40). That slow panning upwards without revealing her eyes creates mystery as well as emphasizing the queen's elegance and beauty.

      +Johtoboy55 Well said (about the queen)! While I haven't had the chance to watch the 2015 version I am quite familiar with the 90s version and what I am able to glean from the new version in those comparison videos and the comments is that despite its age, the 90s version is superior in certain aspects. And while I love Arakawa's designs in FMA I prefer the old ones in Arslan. They seem more vibrant to me and more individualised.

    I prefer how realistic/historic the 2015 version is. The fantasy themed art makes it look unrealistic and almost like a drama, not a documented history (which is what they are going for). And, In 1991, the soldiers look like Vikings :"D
    Also, Elam and Arslan look like they are actually 14-15yrs old in 2015. Arslan looks too mature and Elam looks like a child in 1991. They don't even look the same age. Arslan's 2015 character makes him look more docile and humble, but that is the point since he is 14yrs old... He is supposed to grow, not already look like he is experienced and in control.
    I have to agree that 1991 Daryun looks more appealing, but why the hell should the lead characters always look good and stand out? I love that Daryun looks like an _Actual_ knight and doesn't stand out too much from the other knights.
    The queen looks waaay more beautiful in 1991. No doubt there
    It's disappointing that in 2015 Farangis barely wears anything, I don't like fanservice, but that aside, it's illogical how a woman battling on the front lines can wear clothes that barely cover her while the men wear fullbody armor. Also, how does she not freeze to death while wearing that in the cold? But, I don't like the 1991 Farangis' design either. She looks like freaking sailormoon.
    And the clothing style in 1991 is way too varied. It fluctuates from traditional to fantasy to olden to modern... We have the queen looking amazing and serene and suddenly we have one of her subjects waltzing in like a cinderella wearing clothes that look too modern.
    Either ways, I prefer the action scenes in 2015 way more

      Celes91 I like the Persian influences as well. What I really dislike is the prince's design. It makes it hard for me really take him seriously. And the artist/tactician, he looks more like a bandit, rather than an artist.

    • @Laviathian
      @Laviathian Před 9 lety +6

      Celes91 I like Arakawa's adaptation, but what is missing is the uniqueness of the art style in the 1991 version. Yoshitaka Amano's working with the animators for the color scheme that helps buid the drama for the original was amazing but Arakawa's looks like every other anime style today, which is what sells nowadays to the general. I don't know if it is just attributed to nostalgia, but it is an age where commercialization is the only way for anime and mangas not to get axed now. Also from the original THE MUSIC OH GOD THE MUSIC was just incredible and tied everything together.

    For people who complained about the old one was not realistic, well Arslan Senki was meant to be fantasy (since the novel) though it may base on some reference (like persia). The new design lacks originality, it seems just like FMA reskin.

  • @fraxinuse
    @fraxinuse Před 9 lety +5

    I only big thinks I can see that have changed while comparing them like this is mostly Arslan and the masked guy. Arslan seems more confident, strong, and noble in the older version while he is so humble for a prince in the recent adaptation. They really screwed up when changing the masked man's design, he looks fucking bad-ass in the 1991 version with the mask and armour, definitely wouldn't fuck with him.

    • @Marcelosahgo
      @Marcelosahgo  Před 9 lety +5

      fraxinuse I started reading the novel aaand his (Silver Mask) new design is totally at odds with how he's described there; full-face-concealing helmet, like in the 90's. The new design is pretty weak because 1) It makes little sense (how does it stay on?!), and 2) Everybody reacts as if his face WAS fully concealed, when...it...isn't. A Nightwing-mask situation, if you will.
      Arslan is interesting in that it can be argued that the new Arslan is closer to how the novel describes him... though it can be argued that it exaggerates his flaws too much (?). It's a Japanese novel, they're not heavy on details.

    I like the old version for the character design, while the new version for a sense of reality and history. Their character designs are a lot more believable, with some face traits being less common in anime, though they exist in real life. For example, in the new version, Daryun has a long nose and thick eyebrows, which is rarely shown as beautiful in anime. Also, in terms of history, Pars reminds me of the Roman Empire, which was almost impossible to defeat, and they had a lot of slaves. Then, Lustania reminded me of the Ottoman empire, as they killed a lot for the sake of religion.
    So both versions have their ups and downs

      '91 Scene 5's introduction of the queen had a much more "elegant" presentation. Like, you only see bits and pieces of her while she's talking and making subtle movements which gives her a sort of mysterious feel. While the '15 version, it's just "bam, here she is". On the other hand, the arrows made more sense in '15, because the arrow magically hit him in the heart in '91. I think '91 gets character introductions better(more dramatic) while '15 has better action
