    Hello, Plinkster, Rob here. Thanks for the great reviews. I bought the Savage B22 Precision and Arken scope after seeing your review. I also just purchased the Bergara B-14R with the carbon fiber barrel, and I think you might want to test that version also. On mine the trigger pull averaged less than a pound on my Lyman gauge, and on my first trip to the range I fired a five shot, .186 inch group with Aguila standard ammo at fifty yards.

Also found a CZ 457 in a 24” barrel in a chassis that should arrive in a week. The money I saved from not buying a voodoo bought two addition sub moa shooting sticks.

    I love my HMR in 6.5 CM. I was looking for a good trainer and considered this rifle. My son had gotten the CZ 457 custom and it's nice. However I ended up with the Ruger American Long Range 22lr.. it shoots .4 in groups with cci standard and Remington subs. It absolutely loves the Norma Match. .25 all day at 100. You don't see very many videos about the Ruger though. But it's less than 500$ and would put it up against even a voodoo. I'm that confident in the rifle.

  • @Courier-Six
    @Courier-Six Před 3 lety +2

    I'd say the best .22 rifle I've ever gotten on a budget was the Rock Island M14Y. I threw a Gamo Scope on it, zeroed it for 100 yards, and I'm getting groups an inch wide with the occasional flyer due to wind. I set up a 6 pack of coke cans on the target stands and nailed every one. For a $200 rifle total, I could not be more satisfied

    • @Courier-Six
      @Courier-Six Před 3 lety

      @Jbog07 I've never actually owned a CZ rifle. I have yet to see one in my local shop and I tend to try and patron them as much as possible just to keep them open. Otherwise I'm stuck driving 75 miles for my nearest source of ammo. I also just did a bit of research on CZ rifles and noticed that with a few exceptions they tend not to come with iron sights. I'm not a big fan of relying on scopes alone. Iron sights are a must for me as I like to have to option of still using the rifle if the absolute worst happens and my scope is broken in the field. That's just a personal taste though, not in regards to the quality of the rifle

    • @Courier-Six
      @Courier-Six Před 3 lety

      @Jbog07 my personal favorite targets will probably always be tied between 3 items. Dollar store 2 liters of generic soda (cut down on a generation of youths with morbid obesity and corn syrup addictions), steel gongs, and a very special target a unspecified relative of mine managed to secure, that being a thrown out bullet proof window from an Up Armor Humvee door window. It was a bitch to set up as it weighed a ton but damn if it wasn't fun to test different rifles and see what each bullet did.

    • @Courier-Six
      @Courier-Six Před 3 lety

      @Jbog07 i would seriously advise it. Mine cost me $197 after taxes and background checks. Magazines come in 10 and 15 round capacities at about $20 a pop, and the barrel comes threaded for muzzle devices standard. Its light weight, the trigger break is just clean and breaks like glass. The bolt is smooth as can be. The only 2 negatives I can say about the rifle are the trigger pull is on the heavy side as about 6-8 pounds and mine seems to be a bit picky with ammo. Winchester Xpert HV bulk ammo jammed once every magazine and most other bulk ammo sees the rifle jam about 5 times every 2-300 rounds as the chamber gets fouled and cause failures to extract. For the price point, accuracy, detectable magazines, and action as a whole I'll deal with plinking ammo causing it to jam up every couple hundred rounds. It's not like I plan on going after Grizzlies or Mountain Lions with a .22, after all. The rifle currently sits by my bedroom door and I take it out with me whenever I walk my property for coyotes or other varmints. It also tends to be one of my 3 truck guns with my Rossi Youth .410 and Winchester 94 in 30-30. Nice variety I think in the combination with a rifle for small game, a shotgun for bird shooting, and a rifle for medium game.

  • @mark2731
    @mark2731 Před 3 lety

    I Just returned to .22lr shooting after several years. I forgot how fun it is. I shoot at a D.N.R. range so it is very controlled of course. Paper targets only. I thought of a test that you could do with various loads of .22lr. Shoot through 14.5 oz cans of full wet dog food. I believe this would be scientific. The tin can would represent the tuff outer hid of most varmints and the soft dog food inside would simulate the flesh and internal organs. I think your hunting viewers would get a lot of this test. Thanks for your channel and your dedication to shooting.

      I love mine but it has ejection problems that are driving me nutts. I'm at the point i think im going to contact Bergara now. It will always pull the case out of the chamber but about 1 out of ever 3 mags it drops the last round inside the action and often ends up behind the ejector to the point you have to dig it out with a knife or something. It also occasionally drops one inside the action that isnt the last round but usually just the last round. It is driving me crazy. I have staked the ejector per what bergara has been telling some people to do to fix the issue and while it did cut down on the problem it did not fix it.

  • @Johnnywoo7
    @Johnnywoo7 Před 3 lety +1

    Hi Plinkster . That looks a lovely rifle especially the stock. Two questions, 1. How many rounds to accurise the barrel. 2. Is it best for accuracy to shoot suppressed. I have a Lithgow 101 and it’s very accurate when I shoot suppressed. If I can get one here in the UK 🇬🇧 I think I would have one, love your reviews.

      15 rounds will usually be ok to start getting accurate results when changing ammo, I am not an expert thats just my best guess

    My opinion, if your goal is precision shooting, NRL22, etc. Save some money and get the steel barrel over the carbon. The extra weight actually helps stabilize on a bag. Handling the two side by side, the carbon felt too light to stabilize on a bag easily.

    Greetings! I spend a lot of time in the woods and the problem I have with my Ruger American in .22WMR is that the bolt will pop up at the tiniest touch whether it's clothing or brush and it exposes the breech on occasion. I see that the bolt pops up on the Bergara slightly upon firing, but was wondering if it feels snug to you when it's locked down and loaded, ready to fire. Thanks!

    @.22plinkster Would you say .22 L.R. round nose lead bullets are more accurate than round nose plated bullets? I would think the copper wash could slightly affect accuracy due to slight difference in jacket thickness? Have you ever tested this?

    I want to see the Lithgow vs Bergara vs Vudoo.... I would also like to see Lapua Center X, Midas +, SK Match and Eley 10X. I just purchased a Vudoo, the same one you reviewed. I bought it because I trust your reviews and appreciate your videos. I think the Lithgow didn’t get a fair comparison because you used Gold Medal Match and CCI Green Tag. I would love to see apples to apples.

      I have seen conflicting reports on that. They are both AICS pattern mags, but the geometry of the round presentation can be slightly different. I would lean towards not relying on them working, but some people have said they do feed, some say they dont.

    I don't own any suppressors but I've seen both videos and first hand where a 22lr rifle shot poorly with a suppressor attached then immediately after removing the suppressor shot MUCH better.
    One such instance was a few days ago at my rifle club a guy was shooting his essentially new B14r suppressed and got poor groups and did poorly shooting a KYL steel target set up
    He removed the suppressor and immediately shot very good groups and did well on the KYL target rack
    Same ammo only thing that changed was removing the suppressor
    He was shooting SK Match Rifle ammo

    Don't have a bolt gun but this looks like a great (i.e., affordable) way to get into long range shooting. Sure I could pay more for a .308 or 6.5 Creedmore but would rather not burn through ammo (besides I don't have a .22LR bolt gun).
