  • Stephen Curry was named the first ever Most Valuable Player of the Western Conference Finals following the Warriors series-clinching win over the Mavs last night. He will return to the Finals, but this time without Kevin Durant who helped win their last two titles, and Steph still seeking his first Finals MVP. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe debate if Curry is top 10 of all time.

Steph is the most heavily guarded player in the NBA. Defenders are always ON him and he barely gets foul calls unlike most other star players.
The eye test confirms why Steph falls short. Physical, fouly defense that is not called. Everytime he drives by a defender, they put their legs under him and use their arms to literaly hold him back. That's why he buffed up this season. Trying to take it harder to the basket, and he still doesn't get enough foul calls.

Yes, and that is why he is so valuable. Even if he has a mediocre shooting night, it is because the other team sells out to stop him so far from the basket that it opens up opportunities for everyone else. Why does Draymond get to run so many half court fast breaks? Why do the Warriors get so many open cutters when Steph runs off screens going out the 3 point line? Why do so many fake dribble hand offs lead to dunks by the ball handler? Why do so many cuts off faked screens for Steph end up in lay ups?
From an SI article: "Ty Lue admitted to blitzing Curry in the 2017 and 2018 Finals even with Durant and Klay Thompson out there. In a recent podcast episode, Ty Lue opened up about his defensive strategy against Steph in the 2016 Finals as well.
"Steph was a bad guy. He was a bad man. So we had to double team him every time he touched the ball, and he still averaged 27," Ty Lue said when asked about the 2016 Finals. This is consistent with what Ty Lue has said about Steph Curry for years now, even just recently calling him "the most dangerous player in the league.""

Curry is the ultimate definition of being THE SYSTEM in itself to elevate everyone around him. It was never about individual accolades and stats with Curry; it's always the team above himself. Curry's off-ball game is never obvious or recorded in stats sheets, yet it has always been the critical element contributing to GSW's overall success that is criminally ignored, overlooked and underrated. I swear casuals to this day are still thinking Curry is "just running around" all game. 🤷‍♂

Absolutely Steph can be top 10 if he wins or by the end of his career. Losing to Lebron in the finals isnt a big knock on his resume. Lebron is top 3 all time. KD isnt a valid excuse since Steph won before having KD and after KD left Steph is still going further than him.
And to Shannons point a lot of people can physically reach or surpass Steph, yet they arent him. No one is gonna be 7'1" 330lbs and move like Shaq. Plenty of dudes are gonna be 6'3" 190lbs or more like Steph, yet why has Steph been able to change the game just as much as Shaq?

In that 2014-15 playoffs from start to finish Curry averaged 28.3 points, 6.4 assists, 5 rebounds, 1.9 steals, shooting 42% from 3 and 46% from the field which is very good for him.

Thank god someone said it...No other player of our era had the privilege of playing with 2 All Stars alongside him basically his whole prime.Had a first team all NBA for 2 years..Putting him above top 15 is blasphemous i bet people saying Curry is a top 10 player are 25 and under and never watch these great legends play.

I would put myself over curry because when I beat LeBron all my teammates were over their prime and I locked down LeBron. And in Toronto I was the solo superstar carrying the raptors beating Butler embiid, giannis and Steph. I was more dominant with lesser teammates, my 2 finals mvp 2dpoy> his 3 rings 2 mvp.

One thing about Steph for sure is definitely range. Noticed the past few years back when Steph was really showing the world what he could do, now more players pull up from further out
