- Stephen Curry was named the first ever Most Valuable Player of the Western Conference Finals following the Warriors series-clinching win over the Mavs last night. He will return to the Finals, but this time without Kevin Durant who helped win their last two titles, and Steph still seeking his first Finals MVP. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe debate if Curry is top 10 of all time.

We counted the dynasty out after KD left. Doubted 'em more after Steph got injured, then Klay... got way too comfortable underestimating how important Draymond is to the team. Now the apology needs to be as loud as the disrespect.

Stephen Curry has the dribbling of Allen Iverson, passing like Magic Johnson, Shooting 3's like Reggie Miller, Charisma to fans like Kobe, and being a humble superstar. He changed the system.

Crazy over exaggeration. Steph is no where near the passer and dribbler that Magic and AI were. Curry is one of the all time greats, possibly top 10 all time after this year, but not based on those reasons you just listed.

Its amazing, Skip NEVER gives Bron a pass for playing without help unless he's bashing Steph.
It doesn't matter, his team the Spurs, suck anyways without Robinson, Duncan or kawahi.
It’s astonishing. He has spent over a decade destroying LeBron for his 4-6 record without giving the viewers any context to why, but now he explains the full story because he wants to slander Steph Curry, lmao. I’m blown away by this.
Because he doesn’t see Durant as a threat to Jordan so anyone brought up in a comparison with Jordan he slanders and also steph losing to Lebron in 2016 probably killed skip because it game people another thing to talk about

The Warriors has made 6th straight finals when klay is playing! That guy don't get enough credit!

2016 would always be a top 3 choke disaster class from the Warriors but no one ever mentions warriors being injured and players like Steph PLAYING THROUGH INJURY or even Draymond’s suspension creating a momentum swing that helped Cavs a lot. Yet they always say Dubs won in 2015 because Cavs were injured. If they win this year I could only imagine the excuses
bro the warriors validated 2015 by winning 73 games in 2016. they said they got lucky with injuries to their opponents and did not lose 2 games in a rowthat regular season.
Well for one I never heard of curry playing wit an injury so I don’t wanna hear that😂… 2 ppl do bring up draymond being suspended what are you talking abt. But that point always gets shrunk down bc draymond still played games 6 & 7. That’s still 2 opportunities for the warriors to win and they didn’t like stop it. They choked, it is what it is.
there's no such thing as momentum if there was the warriors would have the chip in 2016 they were up 3-1 in the series
@@mariechambers7917 the only 3-1 that gets mentioned is the blown lead what about the fact that they went 3-1 v. Lebron in championships. any championship can be nitpicked. specially lebron's 4. 2012 lockout season, 2013 ray fallen shot, 2016 draymond suspension, 2020 pandemic or bubble. in 2019 raptors beat a depleted warriors team. in 2021 the bucks beat an injured Brooklyn team.
@@mariechambers7917 “ I never heard of Curry playing injured “ that’s exactly my point. He got injury during those playoffs and played through it. Other role players were injured too but as usual Warriors can’t have excuses
Still don’t understand this obsession that he needs a finals MVP. The way Curry elevates his team and improves the players around him is enough. Warriors ball and the unselfish, “team first” nature of their play is rooted in him. There are no 6 finals appearances without him.
Top 10 is all about the nit picks. No finals mvp is a big one
@@notjazz. agreed ! When all players are so talented and skilled, people have to start nit picking in order to debate whose legacy was greater than the other.
I think with another ring he'll eventually be considered a top 10 all timer but if he wins it this year and wins the finals MVP on top of it, it cements that status right here right now.
Yeah they’re crazy, let’s remember Steph wasn’t supposed to be here. He was still doubted after being the best college player during his college days. Steph’s story is remarkable. That’s why I put him over Lebron.
That’s like me trying to get into Harvard and complaining on why they’re nitpicking my High School report cards, if we’re talking about any spot in the top 20 you have to nitpick, Accolades are just as important if not more important then style of play
So by Skip's logic, if we can't credit Steph for winning 2015, then there has to be a asterisk to Kawhi winning in '19 since GSW were without KD and lost Klay..
Great point!!
Last year kyrie was out. The bucks don’t beat the nets with kyrie. They don’t beat the lakers or clippers in the finals if AD and kawhi were playing. Injuries are part of the game

Well played good sir.🍻
He's the best at it. I only watch him for his ridiculous takes.
Unc should just ask: "Ok Skip, what exactly would Steph NEED TO DO, WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SEE before you put him in that Top 10 convo..." To your point, I think the answer for Skip is "Nothing because it's not possible for Steph to get in my Top 10." At least that would be an honest answer and we can just move on LOL
Skip is click bait in human form. His ridiculous takes cause us to discuss it and him. Thus his brand and value grows.
He does it with Lebron so this is nothing new to him.
Steph is the most heavily guarded player in the NBA. Defenders are always ON him and he barely gets foul calls unlike most other star players.
The eye test confirms why Steph falls short. Physical, fouly defense that is not called. Everytime he drives by a defender, they put their legs under him and use their arms to literaly hold him back. That's why he buffed up this season. Trying to take it harder to the basket, and he still doesn't get enough foul calls.
You ain't lying bro
Giannis
Yes, and that is why he is so valuable. Even if he has a mediocre shooting night, it is because the other team sells out to stop him so far from the basket that it opens up opportunities for everyone else. Why does Draymond get to run so many half court fast breaks? Why do the Warriors get so many open cutters when Steph runs off screens going out the 3 point line? Why do so many fake dribble hand offs lead to dunks by the ball handler? Why do so many cuts off faked screens for Steph end up in lay ups?
From an SI article: "Ty Lue admitted to blitzing Curry in the 2017 and 2018 Finals even with Durant and Klay Thompson out there. In a recent podcast episode, Ty Lue opened up about his defensive strategy against Steph in the 2016 Finals as well.
"Steph was a bad guy. He was a bad man. So we had to double team him every time he touched the ball, and he still averaged 27," Ty Lue said when asked about the 2016 Finals. This is consistent with what Ty Lue has said about Steph Curry for years now, even just recently calling him "the most dangerous player in the league.""
@@stonedecatur6602 He's a beast. What about him?

Bron win over Steph when Steph, Igoudala were hurting while Green was suspended one game and Bogut just out. In fairness, Steph won over Bron when Love and Kyrie got hurt, so I'd say it's a wash
If GSW wins this, steph will have 4 Titles, 2 MVPs (one being the first unanimous), a finals MVP, 2 scoring titles, and was once the steals leader. There aren’t 10 players that can match that.
Titles are a team accomplishment
ESPN has both Magic and the Big O over Curry in their Top 10 player
I can name 10 players to match that if not better than that.
MJ, Kareem, Bill Rusell, Magic Johnson, Lebron, Larry Bird, Tim Duncan, Shaq, Kobe, Wilt.
With skip's logic we can put an asterisk beside every NBA finals because we can always find a disadvantage somewhere.

Doesn't have at least decent defense to save his life. Curry is the GOAT shooter but having no defensive prowess to back him up hurts his case.
He is just not good enough to be in top 10
Didn't even make the playoffs being the only superstar
It’s crazy Steph is unanimous MVP but Jordan or Lebron never was but they won finals MVPs certain times when they won MVP to show that was a mistake by the voters 😂.
The main reason people don’t have steph as a top 10 is because his defense is so poor, but just the fact they r having a topic of having him in the top 10 shows how great his shooting and offense is
What fascinates me is he always bring up old stuff to stop players from being great in his eyes but yet the players he love he over looks the same failures i.e. Jordan’s early playoff losses
Jordan dominated tho

This was actually a good discussion 👍 Agree with points made by both. Steph choked embarassingly in 2016, but every superstar has choked. Also the Warriors have proven that KD needed the warriors more than they needed him.
Jordan didn't choke.

He choked and he had teammates to save him in those finals and to win still in 6 games because Scottie played great defense and Rodman had 11 offensive rebounds in game 7 and I think he had 19 rebounds overall, soo Jordan clearly had better teammates and that's why he won that championship, it doesn't mean that he didn't choked, he did choked in those finals, the did is only that Curry lost and Jordan won, that's why nobody talks about it.
@@hristijandimitrovski8664 the thing is, if jordans shot isn’t going down, he is still one of the greatest defenders of all time, and a great playmaker, curry may pass but we’ve seen curry be absolutely useless on defense, i can never put a player top 10 all time when they get subbed out for defensive purposes
In the 2016 Finals that Skip loves to spout stats, Steph had slipped on a wet spot in the WCF vs. Houston and injured his knee. It was in question whether he could make it back for the Finals. to be honest, everytime skip speaks of 2016 finals for a steph argument, I always fast forward to the next statements. He cannot move on.
I mean to be fair he does the same thing y’all do for lebron🤷🏾♂️. Everyone loves to mention when lebron didn’t win or his meltdown in 2011 where he played bad Skip still brings it up till this day even in this damn video he did that😂😂. So it’s only right to mention curry’s meltdown up 3-1. And his bad performances, the same way ppl do for bron when sb calls him the goat. Well ppl are tryna say curry will be in the top 10 all time so skip hints at why he shouldn’t be. Jus like he does for bron wit the goat debate🤷🏾♂️
Does Skip have the “games 5, 6 and 7” speech and all the corresponding stats memorized by heart?
This debate was great
Thank you Shay‼️‼️‼️💯
Steph was robbed of the Finals MVP in 2015! he has had lots of big playoff games, Magic is still a top 10 player even though he was called ''Tragic Johnson'' and Jordan had some bad shooting games in the finals skip!! 💯
Jordan choked in 89 but that's always overlooked
@@sportstalkonly1442 exactly nobody ever wants to talk about how JorBum avraged 30 on 47 percent shooting what a overrated bum
The finals Mvp trophy died in 2015, the Nba should get rid of that trophy, or rename that trophy to Steph curry trophy, winning a chip is a team thing
@@norvinzor that’s nasty 😂😂

19:09 thats a good point by Shannon but he also forgot to mention how Magic with Larry also saved the NBA after what might be it’s worst decade ever which is a forgotten fact, Steph helped push the 3 pt revolution but Magic a big reason why Basketball began to reach other countries and gotten these guys paid what they are now
Before Magic and Bird the playoffs were on tape delay.
It was more mj Kobe and lebron who made it international
@@kingsnake8670 mj international yes but magic bird rivalry def got the nba more popular then jordan took it to another level, by himself
half truth... MJ made the NBA go global. even Magic and Bird will say that about MJ.

So Lebron has a pass for losing when Kevin Love got hurt but when Klay got hurt against Toronto it was on Steph … hahaha
I just wish GSW wins with SC as MVP to see Skip then saying Curry was a bus driver on those first 3 rings 🤷🏻♂️
Klay played 4games & 3 quarters in that series Kyrie played a game in 2015 and love played no games like idk how ya tryna make that equivalent 🤣🤣🤣 bc the warriors were getting smoked by the raptors by the roster they had b4 kd that’s jus the facts that 2015 series was free rep for the warriors the 2019 raptors beat the team that one 73 games wit out kd klay was hurt for a game and and quarter like stop it
Steph missed a wide open game winner vs Toronto in game 6.
Skip be like yeah leonardo da vinci was ok did you see his drawing when he was 4 a great! I think not lol
The thing that people never talk about with Curry that I actually think is his biggest HOF reason is how he fundamentally changed how the game was played. It’s something you can’t measure but it’s impossible to explain how basketball got to be this way without spending a lot of time talking about Curry.
He has more impact than any player since Shaq in that regard
Everyone talks about this when speaking on curry buddy. Are u dumb?
never talk about?????????????????
Skip said "Where are you going to stick Steph?" Lol. Don't agree with him hardly. But he got this right.
That's just it. Who are you going to bump?🤔📝19:43
@@Greg-qw7xl I'd slide him in over Shaq for sure. Possibly Russel and Chamberlain as well.
You would think that this show would be concerned that skip is turning off viewers. It doesn’t take much to see that this is just hate for Warriors and Curry. But because Curry has Character. He won’t respond. Skip doesn’t deserve a response he just rants and raves don’t give it any dignity.
When Skip says mmmhh lol lol
Skip just had to bring up the 2011 finals lmfao, I swear it's his favourite anecdote
When they first got together they said they wouldn’t make the finals and they did. Plus don’t forget Dallas beat Kobe team and dirk play his heart out
Why am I not surprised that Skip placed LeBron all the way down at 9 in a Top 10 All Time Great List lol
lebron is top 5... but as far as starting a team.... hes like 9th for me too.... kobe mj duncan kareem magic wilt russell , maybe eveb steph
I just keep thinking of that press conference rebuttal the late great Dennis Green said ' IF YOU WANT TO CROWN HIM THEN CROWN HIM ALREADY ' 😆
So are we going to ignore the fact that stuff in the 2016 playoffs / finals that Steph was dealing with injuries like when he hurt the knee and Ankle in the Houston series in the first round and later on in the playoffs he had a right shoulder injury on his shooting side although Curry didn't make no excuses but we all saw he was dealing with injuries and it affected him but you don't hear Skip Bayless even mentioning that part
Warriors were up 3-1 with games 5 and 7 at home. They choked.
I'm starting to dislike skip bc everytime on this show when they talk abt steph he brings up the 2016 finals which was 6 years ago ok skip we get it steph did not have a good game like Ok we get it I dont understand why he always try to discredit steph he needs to get over it
Because in a all time discussion u gotta talk about a players whole carrer and when u in the media u make yo dollars by critiquing ones lows
Everytime he does. Like if he is so perfect
I agree with Skip, who are you taking off the top 10. Kobe, Shaq, Bird. All the guys in the top 10 are better than Steph.
I feel like trying to debate whether Curry should be top-10 is so one-dimensional and off the point, like measuring him with the wrong sticks.
Curry is the ultimate definition of being THE SYSTEM in itself to elevate everyone around him. It was never about individual accolades and stats with Curry; it's always the team above himself. Curry's off-ball game is never obvious or recorded in stats sheets, yet it has always been the critical element contributing to GSW's overall success that is criminally ignored, overlooked and underrated. I swear casuals to this day are still thinking Curry is "just running around" all game. 🤷♂
He changed the game. Definitely top 10 personally I think he is already.
Lebron, jordan, Kobe, Kareem, magic, bird, Shaq, wilt, Duncan, Russell that’s the top 10, curry with 4 rings and 1 fmvp can surpass wade and Dr J but not Isaiah Thomas and Olajuwon, why? Because DURANTS warriors happened
Lillard, harden, Beal, Klay, curry were part of revolutionizing the game
Every time Shannon says “right” the fact Skip doesn’t get his sarcasm is hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
How does skip go from steph curry to debating Mj and Lebron with the 2011 final
Everyone knew that KD needed the Warriors without them he doesn’t get those two rings. It only proves to me that you need to stack the deck against Lebron.
Did Dallas need to stack the deck?

STOP IT, Klay is easily a top 75 player as is Kyrie. Klay when in the zone is often better than Curry
Kyrie may have top 75 skills but he has not had a top 75 career.
No I’ll take Steph on his bad day than game 6 klay you’re trolling
@@kennethopoku226 well curry is very inconsistent so even on an average day he is can be bad, but Klay put up 37 point in one quarter, that averages to 148 points in one game lol
Duncan really needs to be talked about more for goat status
@Anthony Mercado okay.. magic played with 6 hof players... and like 3 top 10 all timers.. bird played with about 5 hall of famers... Kobe and shaq... durant ...curry... jordan..lebron.. etc.. all played with hall of Famer when they won...
Absolutely Steph can be top 10 if he wins or by the end of his career. Losing to Lebron in the finals isnt a big knock on his resume. Lebron is top 3 all time. KD isnt a valid excuse since Steph won before having KD and after KD left Steph is still going further than him.
And to Shannons point a lot of people can physically reach or surpass Steph, yet they arent him. No one is gonna be 7'1" 330lbs and move like Shaq. Plenty of dudes are gonna be 6'3" 190lbs or more like Steph, yet why has Steph been able to change the game just as much as Shaq?
Kyrie has the same build as Steph, just as skilled, better handles too. Yet Kyrie hasnt been able to get his career anywhere close to Stephs and Kyrie is elite.
To place Steph in the top 10, who are you kicking out? That's the question nobody that claims he moves into the top 10 with a win here seems to want to answer, nor can justify their answer if they even do
They won a ring without KD and were the best team in the league without KD wtf are they talking about?
Why do I continue to watch anything with Skip Bayless in it lol
In that 2015 finals curry was the finals mvp but at the same time I don't have any issue with Andre Iguodala getting it because he was just as impactful in those finals and the finals mvp is only for what you do in the finals but if we are talking about who was the mvp on that Warriors squad for that entire 2014-15 playoffs overall, that was for sure Curry no doubt. In that 2014-15 playoffs from start to finish Curry averaged 28.3 points, 6.4 assists, 5 rebounds, 1.9 steals, shooting 42% from 3 and 46% from the field which is very good for him.
agreed, the media makes it seem like despite andre winning the fmvp steph was not the best player on that team. kawhi leonard and tony parker were not the franchise player when they won their fmvps it was duncan. chauncey billups was not the franchise player in 2004 it was ben wallace. in 1981 cedric maxwell won the MVP over larry bird, in 1980 magic won the MVP over kareem it was clearly kareem's MVP go look at the stats. kind of like it was steph MVP in 2015.
Curry was also slightly more impactful in the finals than Iggy, but ok...
We're here to see how Skip pulls Lebron into this topic, let's see. I can hear the Steph mini me comments now 😂😂😂
Just a simple question, without Steph, can GW be in west final with the rest of the team?
This is kinda a bad argument cause you can say the same for every team that has a star player
Y’all got good writing on the show, No “pun intended “.
People love discrediting Curry’s first championship due to injuries but Skip LOVES Kawhi Leonard and that chip he last won was ALSO won because of injuries he’s beyond biased
Facts 💯
curry so big folks now saying “ Currrryyyyy” like with Kobe every time we shoot a basket or trash in the trash can 😂🤷🏾♂️
Facts. It’s habit at this moment
yeah, let's keep blaming Steph for Love and Kyrie's Injuries lol. so now, if the team that's gonna be in the finals against the GSW loses any key player(s) due to injuries and Steph wins the chip/FMVP, this is still gonna be the narrative. y'all just can't give this man his flower lol.
People bring up Kevin and Kyrie as if Cleveland had those two they would have swept the Warriors. But, before Cleveland came back to win the FOLLOWING YEAR, Lebron, Kevin & Kyrie were down 3-1 to the same Golden State squad! Had Draymond not gotten suspended, and had Bogut not gotten hurt! And if Iggy goes up stronger on his final layup, we're not even having this inane discussion!
The older i get the more i learn how tall these star players were..i never new magic was 6”9..im more into football but still, it’s starting to make more sense..this game was takin away by bigs..jus sayin if u stood over a trash can or at least the same height u should be able to shoot it in or dunk..so are basketball players really that athletic
What about everybody on the 2016 warriors team being hurt Skip? I think that 2015 and 2016 cancel each other out. Skip has a lot of hate in his heart.
Who was hurt in 2016 outside of Bogut?
@@TruthDissident Steph Curry was playing on a MCL Sprain, & Andre Iguodala was playing on a back injury he injured in Game 5

People forget dexterity, agility, stamina is included in athletics.
I can see the warriors starting their run for a 3peat, then Steph would have 6 rings, top 5 for sure then
I can see that happening. The warriors system is one that no other team can really match. They’ve also extended their primes with Poole, Wiggins, and kuminga. Curry will end his career with 6 rings and 3 finals mvps.
Honest to god if Curry finishes with 6 on warriors or not he goes 4th for me
We don’t even know if they’ll beat Boston. Hold on to your horses mate. Let them win this one first.
We’ve been waiting for this all night😂

I've never seen most professional teams plan to double-team one man all season (Mickey mouse tournament, 2021 season). I never saw one man be such an offensive threat the moment he literally crossed the half-court line. I've never one man who only gets less than half of foul calls while shooting threes or when finishing under the rim. Steph and the small ball line-up have changed the game. Shoutout to the organization for actually drafting a core and not "bending" for All-Star players to join them. Steph is top 10.
The resume is impeccable but then when you look through it and dig deep and see the context your like damn he’s either the 2nd fiddle or chokin man

@@isaacsmith3901 no Ofcourse not. Shannon was saying if you don’t have MULTIPLE regular season MVPs, that automatically disqualifies you from top ten. I was pointing out how clearly that kinda can’t be true, or atleast Kobe is the exception
It’s really these two vs a whole start all star team at espn
Why did I expect “chosen one became frozen one” in a Steph Curry video and not get disappointed?
Steph does have to shoot better in the Finals, but the warriors are so deep he doesn't need to play great for them to win.
Steph shot 44% from 3 this series. I think he will be fine if he plays like this.
Yea he was good this series, consistent and made shots when it mattered. A bit shakey against Memphis and also played well against Denver. This is the finals run that matters if we are going to put Curry in the top 10.
Everyone in the stater line up for the warriors has been drafted by GS!! That make curry even bigger.. he is doing these by him self !
and that’s why it’s hard to put him Top 10 when you can play bad multiple games but ALLL your teammates Hoops and y’all win. his numbers are gonna look good but he’s not playing Top10 all time caliber basketball. Luka was the OBVIOUS best player in that Dallas series and that’s not good. but you win cause your help balled out
He was shooting great until the elimination game. However, I think Poole will step up big time in the finals. they could be neck and neck in PPG
Steph's great, and he's an all timer but can you name another player in the Top 10 who wasn't the best player on his own team and the other guy isn't in the top 10? It was clear when they were together KD is a better overall player than Steph, not sure how you can put Steph in there ahead of: Jordan-LeBron-Kareem-Magic-Wilt-Shaq-Bird-Duncan-Russell-Kobe
He's great but he is not better than any of those guys. He will end up in the 11-20 range I think.
funny when people talk about injuries for teams the Warriors played and always forget the terrible injuries the Warriors had in playoff series. Even players coming back to play series.
Yeah a lot of Skip's points here were biased, but when he got down to actually listing his top 10 it's kinda hard to argue. I don't agree with the order of Skip's top 10, but I'd have to agree that I can't put Steph above any of those 10 guys. He's probably 11 or 12 though.
Curry is definitely better then bird
@@turnup4108 I don't know about that man. I'm not saying it's not close but Bird was a better defender and rebounder. Also despite Curry being being a point guard and Bird a SF I'd say Bird was the better passer.

Thank god someone said it...No other player of our era had the privilege of playing with 2 All Stars alongside him basically his whole prime.Had a first team all NBA for 2 years..Putting him above top 15 is blasphemous i bet people saying Curry is a top 10 player are 25 and under and never watch these great legends play.
I would put myself over curry because when I beat LeBron all my teammates were over their prime and I locked down LeBron. And in Toronto I was the solo superstar carrying the raptors beating Butler embiid, giannis and Steph. I was more dominant with lesser teammates, my 2 finals mvp 2dpoy> his 3 rings 2 mvp.
One thing about Steph for sure is definitely range. Noticed the past few years back when Steph was really showing the world what he could do, now more players pull up from further out
