After a few generations of plants youll have less and less bad traits, more good traits, and just rinse and repeat til you have what you want. Not quite. Bacopa cabana is not actually a species, it's a cultivar of the species Bacopa cordata (aka Sutera cordata). It should be written as Bacopa 'cabana' to avoid this confusion. The cultivar was already in existence prior to Pikmin, but it gained attention through this marketing stunt by Nintendo showing interest in the cultivar resembling the Pikmin flower. It's not a new species or subspecies, but basically a breed. So like how you have a Labrador, and a poodle, as breeds from the dog species.
For those wondering. They took flowering plants that are naturally native to South Africa within the same genus and bred the traits that they desired into the new one through trial and error crossbreeding, creating a family of them, and once they had the desired child plant (species) that they wanted, they named that one Pikmin. The difference between the native plants to the new one is that the new one is a crossbred hybrid like a liger (lion/tiger) is a hybrid or a like a mule (donkey/horse) is a hybrid and usually hybrids tend to be sterile (although plants can be more compatible to inter-genus breeding making hybrids that can reproduce moreso than mammalian examples). I have no clue if the Pikmin plant can seed, by the way. But anyway, so, it would be like the differences in traits that you'd see between you and your siblings/family members up to your grandparents if your two grandparents were of different "races" and regions of the world, imagine the beautiful diversity in pigments and traits and styles that you'd see within your family members. TL;dr So, that's what they did, they basically did what happens when you cross a water mint with a spearmint (peppermint) through trial and error. They made a PikminMint. XD

For those wondering. They took flowering plants that are naturally native to South Africa within the same genus and bred the traits that they desired into the new one through trial and error crossbreeding, creating a family of them, and once they had the desired child plant (species) that they wanted, they named that one Pikmin. The difference between the native plants to the new one is that the new one is a crossbred hybrid like a liger (lion/tiger) is a hybrid or a like a mule (donkey/horse) is a hybrid and usually hybrids tend to be sterile (although plants can be more compatible to inter-genus breeding making hybrids that can reproduce moreso than mammalian examples). I have no clue if the Pikmin plant can seed, by the way. But anyway, so, it would be like the differences in traits that you'd see between you and your siblings/family members up to your grandparents if your two grandparents were of different "races" and regions of the world, imagine the beautiful diversity in pigments and traits and styles that you'd see within your family members.
TL;dr So, that's what they did, they basically did what happens when you cross a water mint with a spearmint (peppermint) through trial and error. They made a PikminMint. XD

This reminded me of this strawberry short Cake game I got when I was a child. I used to like playing it a lot! This ps2 game came with a little bag of strawberry seeds. At the time I didn't know how to properly grow em, first I put it in the soil. Nothing happened, so I ended up eating half of the seeds... I wonder where the last couple of seeds are. 😅

So for those wondering they didn't package the flowers with the game, but they did sell those flowers as part of a promotional tie in with the release of pikmin
