  • Say hello to the most spectacular addition to this year's NFL season - The SoFi Stadium.
    Home to the LA Rams and LA chargers, this revolutionary build cost over $5billion, making it the most expensive sports-ground in the world.
    The stunning indoor-outdoor complex features not only the league's latest, greatest, and most technologically advanced stadium, but also a 6,000-seat performance area, a 2.5-acre plaza, a 25-acre community park, and a 5.5-acre lake.
    As both the Rams and Chargers start to lay down their foundations in sunny California, the SoFi stadium, along with its surrounding landscape, will play a key role attracting local fans and bringing in those from further afield.
    Let's take a closer look at this multi-billion dollar sporting masterpiece.

    Rams had a foundation, having been in LA between 1945 and 1994. Even the Raiders have a foundation of fans in LA from their brief stint in the city. Chargers had a foundation in San Diego, but Spanos’ hubris and obsession with being in a city that doesn’t want them drove them and many of their fans, myself among them, away.

      The Chargers played their first year in LA and were considered LA’s local team (even though they were in San Diego) for 22 years after the Rams left in 94. They left San Diego because the city refused to build them a new stadium (much like Oakland and Raiders/A’s). The Chargers were painted as the villian by an incredibly spiteful mayor. If anything, they’re incredibly wealthy refugees (Dean Spanos is a prick though but he’s not 100% responsible for the move).

    • @gregschuman728
      @gregschuman728 Před 2 lety +2

      @@luke_cohen1 I knew that the Chargers were in LA. But their owners knew they couldn’t compete, so they moved to San Diego. Sometimes there’s a difference between where you were born and where you’re from. Ted Cruz was born in Canada technically. Doesn’t make him Canadian. That being said, Spanos had his eyes on LA for a long time and made some insufferable demands of the city to paint himself as the victim. If you looked at the demographics of football fans in LA, you’d see the Chargers aren’t the favorite.

    We took tours of both SoFi and Allegiant, both beautiful. Since Allegiant is for one team, there was Raider memorabilia everywhere. Not so much at SoFi. We were told it was because it is home to two teams. But, it is more tech savvy. Beautiful, but cold in some places.

    • @luke_cohen1
      @luke_cohen1 Před 2 lety

      Allegiant is home to the Raiders but it was originally built for UNLV’s football team (the local university). The city needed an NFL team to payoff the stadium because they wanted to go all out and the Raiders had a large enough fanbase in Vegas (along with a dispute with the city of Oakland) to be worthwhile.

    • @victoranguiano7401

      @@luke_cohen1 no. That is completely wrong. Even the stadium design was the original stadium design that was supposed to be built in Los Angeles but they changed it when they moved the team to Vegas. The stadium was made and designed for the Raiders they just let the college team play there.

      @luke_cohen1 Před rokem

      @@victoranguiano7401 You clearly haven't been to Sam Boyd Stadium (UNLV's old venue) before then. A stadium was going to be built in Vegas regardless. If anything, using the LA design was just a great way to entice the Raiders to Vegas. LA wasn't going to build 2 new stadiums since Kroenke (the Rams owner) had already bought the land in Inglewood back in 2014, 2-3 years before the Raiders announced their official move. USC and UCLA already have the Coliseum and Rose Bowl. They didn't need two multi billion dollar NFL stadiums for two different teams.
      Allegiant is a publicly financed venue that built for the Raiders as long as the Raiders let UNLV play there as well. Those were the terms of the agreement so that Vegas, Clark County (Vegas' county), and Nevada's state government could sign off on the payments for it.

      @@luke_cohen1 that's exactly what I've been saying they were going to have two teams in Los Angeles it was either going to be the chargers the Raiders or the Rams. They picked the chargers to be with the Rams and left the Raiders out. But there was another proposal to have the chargers and the Raiders play in one stadium and that was a stadium concept that you see in Vegas. The NFL did not want the Raiders in Los Angeles because they know that they dominate la and it will dwarf the Rams. So they picked the Rams and the chargers to share a stadium. And I don't think I agree with you when you said they would only build a stadium if the college team got to play in there as well this is the NFL this is a chance to get a NFL team in your city you think if they said that no they cannot play there you think the city would deny the NFL to build a stadium there? But yes the deal was it's a Raiders stadium and the college team gets to play there but I really doubt that was a deal breaker

      @@victoranguiano7401 Dude, most major cities have recently bristled at the idea of having an NFL team move in since the Democrats (the party in control of big cities) are the no fun club these days. Vegas was one of the few places to want a team because it meant that the local, crappy college team (the Rebels aren't that great but they needed an enclosed dome to get out of the Vegas heat) there could get a major venue upgrade without overpaying.

    Im not sure of the exact numbers but reading around, the stadium itself is about $2.5 -- $3 billion dollars. The rest of $5B is for everything else including office buildings, retail, restaurants/bars, hotels, and 1000s of new housing, plus the lake/park. I think they are waiting for the stadium to be finished first before building the rest in stages. Because it is under LAX plane path, the buildings will be kept mid rise but It would have been great to see high rises overlooking the stadium. Not sure if it is the same as other stadiums, but this stadium is going to provide year round use with two teams using it, plus many large concerts. Taylor Swift was supposed to open in July but Covid changed that. But at least WWE, FiFa, and the Olympics are other things to look forward in the future.
