The thing is Barcelona are primarily remodeling because the Camp Nou was so outdated. I visited the stadium in 2021 before the renovations started and the stadium was kind of a dump. Tiny concourses leading to long wait times, crumbling concrete, bird poop everywhere and aging infrastructure made it absolutely necessary to rennovate.

And it's not finished yet! I like they haven't taken down any stands ect and kept the integral structure, just a great spruce up! Keeping the history and the past and adding to the much needed future! Adding a little more capacity would have been great but the then mayor of Madrid put stop to it unfortunately. Its just outrageous that these clubs still exist with their astronomical debts. While clubs in other countries have a licensing system that makes it mandatory not having debts for a certain time. The federation will take fierce measurements when a club can't meet the minimum (financial) standards and ultimately expulsion from the local, regional and/or national league.

Barca’s is nice as a recreational state of the art stadium, but it doesn’t have the same feel as Madrid’s no-nonsense design. The Santiago is definitely the more hype stadium for big games (especially at night). You just know what you’re getting into when you step inside, the atmosphere is also more private and intense because of the metal frame.
Camp nou doesn’t really give the same vibe, it sounds like more of a park stadium.

Architecturally, it aimed to retain iconic features while incorporating innovative designs. Sustainability was a priority, with plans for energy-efficient systems and sustainable materials. Barca's thinking is that their 99,354 was also NOT enough. Compared to Real Madrid's 84,744 and the fact the partial 3rd tier couldnt go fully round. So the revamp takes it too 105k, making it the 5th biggest stadium in the world (up from the 12th biggest). Hence the recoup figures being massively different.

To those who don't know what "Més que un club" means, the FCBarcelona motto, it literally translates from Catalan to "More than a club". Far away from being just a catchy marketing phrase, it actually aims to describe how the club is not just a regular football club from a big European city, but a real sociocultural figure to the city of Barcelona and Catalonia. Barça has been an important entity that has defended culturally and even politically the region, and from time to time revamped Barcelona's image to the world. This, is a clear example about what differs between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Bernabeu is for sure the most impressive, big metal futuristic stadium every big team expects to have. New Camp Nou aims to be the most sustainable - city integrated - fan centered stadium as it can be, just to build what it's best for Barcelona, Catalonia, and their people.

Even though it's true that Camp Nou has a bigger capacity than Bernabéu (it's the biggest one in Europe), Bernabéu is multifunctional and has a lot of state-of-the-art technology features, such as the 360-degree videoscreen or the retractable pitch, and that's why I prefer Bernabéu over Camp Nou, although I do think both are wonderful stadiums, as I stated above.
