Edit over a year later lol: I don’t actually hate twilight sparkle I just hate her final design and the fact that the show placed her on a much higher pedestal than her just as important friends. Gotta rewatch mlp so bad

The reason Jasper didn't accept Steven or Pink Diamond as her diamond when she learned the truth is because she thought her diamond was a spineless pacifist. Steven killing her and bringing her back to her was like her diamond showing her that they're still powerful. She doesn't understand that Steven didn't want for that to happen. Jasper thinks her diamond is a strong shatterer like the other diamonds and her violence loving self started respecting Steven for all the wrong reasons. Yes it was rushed and poorly structured, but there's a method to the madness.

Something to note, the reason why Velma got a season 2 actually wasn’t from the backlash, it’s sorta soemthinf that happens all the time, they always plan on a season two regardless. Now as for the backlash, that might be where they may not try to do a season 3, but considering they likely had enough content for that for two seasons, that’s why it was announced

DW is actually an accurate portrayal of a 4 year old since at that age kids don't have a proper understanding about their surroundings and their emotions so tantrums are going to happen, the main issue that people have with her though is that she never gets disciplined by her parents when she does wrong, case in point Arthur's Big Hit.
She does have some of the most iconic lines in the show tho.
Yeah when people hate on characters like Ruby from Ruby and Max, DW, and Cailliou, I always get a bit confused because like….I’m sorry but this is how kids act??? Like yes you can dislike them for being bratty and annoying but people who act like they’re the EPITOME of evil is a bit over-the-top since they’re literally 3-6 years of age, of COURSE they’ll be brats.
Though tbf Caillou literally faces no consequences for his actions no matter how horrible he is and literally never apologizes for most things he does, or at least this is what I know from him. DW on the other hand DOES face consequences for how she acts and DOES apologize for some things she does.
Arthur shows and teaches how kids can be VERY flawed and how they can have trouble understanding how to handle emotions and trauma yet they’ll usually have some sort of lesson that’ll teach them (and the kids watching) how to handle a certain situation, feeling, and even traumatic events.
Arthur is honestly the perfect example of a show that represents kids the best because it actually shows kids of different age groups for what they are, kind of bratty and ruthless even without meaning to since kids and teens are still growing both emotionally and physically.
@@soontobechannel743 People hatred for Caillou because of his PARENTS not doing their job and teaching him to act better really highlights how society is more comfortable with demonizing and insulting children more than they are with demonizing and insulting parents tbh. Caillou having neglectful and permissive parents isn't his fault. He didn't choose his own parents, and he's way too young to not know better and raise himself to act better. His parents are way too old to not know better, and yet the immense hatred from parents and kids alike seem to all be reserved for the kid rather than the adults in the situation. It's insane how everyone's response is, "I wish Caillou would get a big beating, what he truly deserves!" Just because he happens to have shitty parents. Yeah, Caillou is a brat, but any kids with parents like that are gonna be brats. They did this to him. They don't deserve sympathy while the kid gets all the flack.

Some times shows and games do stupid "romance" scenes with characters but it leads no where that's a part of life I didn't want in them like have them just always be friends if that's the case but don't put them together in moments that build love ya know? I mention this for Lars and Sadie

Sure, Scrappy was rambunctious and reckless, but he was also just a little kid who wanted to live up to how he perceived his Uncle Scooby to be. It's such a shame what the live-action movie did to his character, and how the writers have basically banned him from even having the opportunity to start fresh.

the only thing that makes me angrier than the bad writing in velma is the fact that they actually had such nice designs for most of the cast and they feel ABSOLUTELY WASTED on the bad writing
Have you seen the concept art? The designs they went with were total downgrades too! They completely wasted a perfect premise and great character designs just because they wanted to jerk off mindy kalling
I agree, however I would definitely need the designs to be tweaked a bit. Like give Norville/Shaggy longer and floppier hair, maybe giving Velma a pair of loafers of some sort to replace the combat boots they gave her, and maybe changing Daphne's outfit (although I'm not too sure how I would change it, I just know I'm not a huge fan of the outfit they gave her tbh). Other than that the character designs and animation are really good, that alongside the voice acting is legit the only good things about the show. It's a shame that so much genuine talent went to waste on the bad writing and unfunny attempts at humor.
They ruined my favorite himbo... HOW DO YOU MIDCHARACTERIZE FRED SO BADLY HE DIDN'T HAVE MUCH IN THE FIRST PLACE all they had to do was make him nice and silly he's such a lenient character but they couldn't even do that right I'm so mad.

Totally agree, a youtuber named lavanderTown made a video where they redesigned the characters and oh my god they were so much better than the actual show. Tbh I’m happy scooby wasn’t in Velma because at least he didn’t have to suffer.
The one character I hated the most is Lila from Miraculous Ladybug. She gets away too easy, no matter how ridiculous her lies are. She also made everyone, except Adrien, believe that marinette was the bad guy, turned everyone against her, and got her expelled all in one day. Even when Gabriel recruited her for his plans, you could tell she is toying him for her own devices.
Edit: Honestly, i did find her very intriguing in the first 2 seasons. She would’ve been an interesting character had it not been that her lies become ridiculous in later seasons(especially season 4 and 5), and everyone just outright believes her. Also, she was not used all that great into the story. If Chloe didn’t had this treatment she has now in the series, Lila would’ve been a decent villain.
Lila Rossi makes me want to scream and throw my head into a wall at full force. Any episode she's in, I have to go on ao3 and read like any fanfiction where she faces consequences for her actions to keep myself invested in the show just because I can't stand her and that busted ass wig that much.

Exactly! She’s my least favorite, character in the whole show. But at least she exposed how people like Alya are such bad friends because that’s where we see her at her worst when Lila is around. And, I’m sorry, but everyone is going to say that they fix things in season four, but that doesn’t fix things in my eyes. Knowing your friends secret identity shouldn’t be the reason why you all of a sudden start believing them. that’s why she is also one of my least favorite characters. I think I have about four that I consider my main least favorite characters with Adrien and Gabriel being the other two. Also, with Lila toying Gabriel, they’re toying each other. Gabriel knows that she has her own agenda, I just don’t think he knows exactly what it is.

I think a big part of a lot of peoples' hatred of Donald Duck is from bad experiences playing Kingdom Hearts, where he is the party healer who is notoriously bad at actually healing you
Yeah honestly in that context I totally get it. Like I remember hating him while playing KH.
Another factor could be his personality in the film The Three Caballeros, since it mostly follows him thirsting after random women (It’s still one of my favorite Disney films though).

Bakugo is an "I understand it but I don't hate them" pick for me. Like, he bullied a kid and told him to commit suicide, and the healthy thing for Deku to do would have been to cut him out of his life, and I don't blame anyone for just passing judgement on em for that reason alone. He does a good job of filling the Vegita role of the show though, which is why I think people like him. Honestly one of my favorite scenes in the show is the League of Villains kidnapping him cus they figure he'd be easy to convert to their side, and the moment they undo his restraints he tries to kick all of their asses. The show has a good mix of scenes with him being a badass, and scenes where he gets knocked down a peg when the universe reminds him he's not the main character. And he DOES develop pretty well twords the war arc, where he winds up respecting Deku as an equal and does actually feel bad about how he treated him in the past. Hell, MHA does a very good job with its redemption arcs... I never thought I'd care about Endeavor, but I loved his redemption arc, and how they manage to humanize him and show him genuinely get put on a path to repenting, while at the same time never downplaying all the awful shit he did or absolving him of the consequences of it all.
...Mineta could be deleted from the show though and I couldn't care less though, yeah.

Honestly I don’t agree with you on endeavor. Bakugou is one thing. But endeavor’s reasoning for abusing his kids and wife was NOT enough for me, I don’t think it was enough for him to get to feel like a hero for dealing with a monster of his own creation, you can’t just abuse a whole family because you got jealous as a grown man😭
But I do like the fact that they don’t treat shoot bad for not forgiving endeavor
@@ThickityMickity Oh I'm not saying Endeavor is good. I just like how they treated his redemption ark. The moral is that even if you've done something unredeemable, it's still healthier for you to try and move on, rather than double down because there's no way you'll ever be forgiven. Endeavor realizes his kids are under no obligation to forgive him, and still presses onward to try and be in a healthier place mentally. The show dosnt argue he SHOULD be forgiven for anything that he's done, just that the right thing for anyone to do is always try to own up to their mistakes and move forward.

I’m so thankful that you put Max and Ruby in the bottom tier! Max and Ruby was one of my earliest hyperfixations and Max was my first ever comfort character! I’m autistic and I had a pragmatic speech delay that made me speak like Max, and seeing someone who spoke and acted like me for the first time ever was incredible for toddler me. I admired Max so much and even strived to be like him! I, too, frequently got into trouble due to others not understanding me, but, in the end, Max always saved the day, and I longed to do the same!

Reason is that. Most people had siblings like DW. One reason to be annoyed with her. Other has to do with the episode Arthur big hit. Where she broke Arthur model plane and seemed to not be punished for destroying his property.

I think a lot of people dislike All Might because he's a shit teacher. He also doesn't tell Izuku about his centuries old nemesis that is so dangerous he is considered a legend and a myth. I mean, yeah, all Might thought he was dead, but maybe at least think about telling him about the history behind this power you're about to give him.

The problem I have with that is you can also make the same case for Rarity's generosity and AJ as well. AJ is also incredibly generous. As is Fluttershy. Rarity is also devastatingly honest. The reason AJ is Honesty is because she knows how to be honest without being hurtful and rarely lies, which is not something RD is capable of for a long time. RD will lie to bolster herself up.
@@aromaladyellie Rainbow also lied to Pinkie Pie for years about liking pies (the food), because she knew the truth would destroy Pinkie. AJ would never do that. Even if it's to protect someone else's feelings, her brain is just incapable of lying. And when other characters are lying "for a good cause", Aj is always there to tell them "this ain't it, fam".
I will not and I repeat will not be having Donald Duck slander, the duck has the whole world against him with the worst luck but still loves his family and friends even if he gets a bit riled up at times- I love him immensely 🥺

The fact that no one suggested Ronaldo from Steven universe ASTOUNDS me. He had no purpose and was AWFUL to everyone. No redemption. No redeeming qualities. I don’t think I hate a character more

As a huge Steven Universe fan when I was a teenager, I hated Ronaldo with a passion, especially after Rocknaldo. Plus I hated his theories from that episode that I saw brought up a few times as legitimate discussion points because he got something right that one time.

Dude Lars was literally my favorite character out of all of SU and I think actively shaped my development into becoming a better human being in middle school. I could’ve easily been so much worse if I never got attached to his character. He was also the reason I started to create art and take my creative passions seriously 😀

Here is my defense for Jasper in Steven Universe Future:
I see it less of a Romantic interest and more of Jasper seeing Steven as the only thing she has left. She was the only gem that refused to change and had everything fall apart around her.
She was made for a purpose: to be strong. The only gems stronger than her were the diamonds and Lapis, who managed to imprison her within an unstable fusion, and we saw what the results of that were with the toxic ex connections.
When Steven went to Jasper, she wasn't alone anymore. She had a purpose again: To be strong and prove her strength against someone else. When Steven shattered her, he gave her exactly what she wanted: The same role she had on Homeworld.
Jasper sees Steven as the replacement for Yellow Diamond, but her experience with Lapis made her desperate and further associate her self-worth compared to others.
I'm not saying it doesn't look weird in execution, even with context, but I still think it fits with Jasper through the rest of Future.

If I recall correct I think she actually used to be a guard under pink diamond, when she starts getting upset at Steven not remembering shattering as rose quarts, she says “your diamond, my diamond, pink diamond” or at least that’s what I remember it as.
I just wish she was unfixable adding to Steven's corruption arc
Okay the one thing I can say for absolute certain about Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond is we saw their character development and story backwards I'm sure if we saw her story forward maybe as a main character in a spin-off series we probably wouldn't hate her as much.

I’m gonna say it, I feel bad for Scrappy Doo. He was a puppy trying his best in his first appearance in the show, and he was still a puppy in the movie cause he clearly wasn’t trained well (what with the peeing thing). Plus, they just left him to die in a desert if I remember correctly. His first appearance, he was shipped to Scooby in the mail in a box. His own family didn’t want him. He’s just a poor lil guy too overly excited with his new family, and his new family dumped him. Cruel. 😅

Twilight is more of a tragic failure in my eyes. She had potential in the early seasons to be an amazing character rather than just the bland MC, but either because of the distance between Tara Stong and the studio or Hasbro interference (probably a mix of both) she never actually got the spotlight she deserved to develop. Eventually, she completely loses everything that makes her interesting (around the same time she gets the wings) and devolves into "Oh, what if I'm not a good princess?" And then Spike or Celestia will say "uh idk you got this champ, just do your best". My theory on the reason why there are so many Twilight clones (besides marketing) is because that's the stuff they wanted to give Twilight, but couldn't.
When you look at what Lauren set up for Twilight, you see that she was supposed to be the smart, logical, straight man to the point of throwing sass while also being the most dysfunctional of them all when things don't go as planned. Strange and new things happen to her, and she's the one who grounds the audience and learns with them. That's why she writes the letters. It's a fun setup. A character who thinks they know everything but actually they know the least. That's also why Pinkie and Twilight are such good comedic foils in the early episodes they share together. I think in time Twilight could have earned her Alicorn status if the show made the effort to focus and grow her character more.
In short. They did Twilight dirty. So dirty. And she's my second favorite. I will not stand for this slander.

They treated him like crap though, and let’s be honest he basically went suicidal in his backstory comic, and again in the show, the only person he had was abusive, he never had anyone else, you can’t really blame him for being bad at building relationships, I’m still ticked off that he betrayed Fluttershy like that but honestly at the time they hadn’t even been friends all that long so yeah, I can definitely see why he did it

I think the reason why so many people hate Lars is because of the fact that he’s such a minor character to be story, yet he gets some of the best writing and development the show has offered instead of many of the main characters like Peridot, post Season 1 garnet, and ESPECIALLY Lapis and Jasper.
The only thing to remark about Eyeball and Aquamarine's fusion was essentially "Congrats, you two are perfect for eachother! Now go away forever :)"
It's so hard to tell when non middle aged people genuinely like the minions and not ironically like them. There's someone I know who crocheted a minion and I thought it was ironic so I treated it that way but it turns out it was genuine and I felt so bad.

Hearing you talk about Jasper was interesting because… I always thought her writing in Future made sense. Like it’s less that she doesn’t think she can be redeemed but that she doesn’t *want* to, but unlike other gems she doesn’t have any drive to keep fighting Steven or anyone anymore because she was entirely driven by wanting to avenge Pink Diamond, but that’s just not an option anymore because, of course, Steven is Pink. So she just falls into a pit of anger, which is why she was so ready to fall back into the role she knew (protecting and serving her Diamond), but is still aware that’s just not a realistic option

Ok the jasper part got me because jasper and steven had agreed to fight and at one point jasper was even pushing steven to not hold back. Jasper was an amazing character, who was set in her purpose, lost in all the teachings of the old diamonds, and didn’t believe Steven was capable as a diamond, even though he was supposed to be hers. It wasn’t until they started sparring and Steven learned how to connect with her that she started opening up and jasper honestly did a better job than most of stevens other friends to get him to open up about what was going on. Yes in the original series jasper is a villain but even then she’s a well written villain and it’s very clear she’s being fueled by a rage she doesn’t even really understand.

As someone who absolutely loves bakugou, his entire character is important to me. I will ever defend his bullying, I will however defend him as a character. He’s developed and anyone out here that doesn’t see how far he’s gotten on his route to getting better needs to catch up. Bro apologized, not even that he genuinely regrets everything and is making changes. I dunno about everyone, but I love myself a character who can change for the better. They automatically have my attention on them more then people that don’t change at all throughout a series. Character development for the win!!

And also her being painted as the only one suffering and Jasper as the instigator during the whole Malachite arc when like she was the one that tricked Jasper into the ocean and kept them fused!

As someone who's been here since the show aired it really pisses me off that people treat Lapis as such a fan favorite when she's just as jaded as Jasper at most points, EVEN IN FUTURE NEARLY KILLING THE OTHER LAPIS' DONT TELL ME SHE DIDNT HAVE CONTROL WHEN SHE VERY CLEARLY WOULD HAVE IF STEVEN WERENT THERE.
Lapis Lazuli is my personal worst character ever.
THIS!!!! Lapis was very clearly the instigator in the malachite arc, and even admitted to enjoying abusing Jasper. And Jasper's behavior afterwards showed she was very very traumatized by what Lapis did to her. And then Lapis' behavior towards Peridot reeked of abusive undertones, and even the pumpkin dog didn't want to go with Lapis when she took the barn.
Steven Universe falls into the trap of writing abuse survivors in the "perfect angel victim" vs "broken psychopath" dichotomy a lot, but at the same trying to make it look like it's not. Lapis and Jasper are a huge example of this, Lapis is treated as the perfect victim but yet unlike other perfect victim portrayals she's very clearly in the wrong in a lot of moments which just comes off confusing and like the writers be super sus. And then Jasper is such a huge example of trauma survivors with messy symptoms getting done dirty as they are constantly demonized throughout the narrative, sometimes in ways that blame their actions on their trauma but also suggests they deserve traumatic things because of their actions. It's offensive writing that has hurt me a lot as someone with CPTSD, BPD and other various issues as a result of childhood abuse, and thus having the "scary" disorders and "messy" symptoms it feels like I'm constantly being demonized for trauma responses that are not my fault. And just seeing media rep that is absolutely awful only adds to that, as that shows me that's the way people view me because I'm not the "pretty" type of abuse survivor.
Though I will admit that at least Future has done a decent portrayal with pink's old pearl. But generally if you want actually good rep for trauma survivors with messy symptoms, or better handling of so many themes SU tried in general, just watch Transformers: Prime. Arcee is the ptsd queen SU could only dream of having. Or really any most TF cartoons will handle a lot of the same themes as SU better. My best recommendation rn is Earthspark because it is the inclusive and understanding show with actual understanding of it's themes that SU can only dream of being.

I would watch the TV channel Boomerang growing up, and they NEVER changed the commercials they aired. So between shows I would just hear “La la la la la” from their Smurf’s add and it drove me crazy!!!

I love his relationship with Fluttershy, FULLY agree on that, it is indeed very cute
And when Discord got first introduced I loved how he was a mischievous, cunning trickster, who only failed at his goals because he underestimated the Ponies' friendship and then had Fluttershy being the only one patient enough to teach him about the value of it.
In Season 4 his cunning character got to shine again with a satisfying conclusion at the end of the season, where it felt like he got a proper redemption and finally made his peace with Twilight, no longer poking fun at her but taking her seriously.
However, as the show went on, his character got more and more degraded to "Pop Culture reference machine" and the few episodes that focused on him were for some reason either him CONTINUING to annoy Twilight as much as he possibly could at any given chance OR being a whiny attention-seeking crybaby UNTIL
U N T I L he went COMPLETELY backwards in the final season and came up with the DUMBEST PLAN IN EXISTENCE by bringing ALL of Twilights past enemies together, motivating them to take over Equestria, giving them access to dangerous magical artifacts and then of course getting BACKSTABBED by said villains and he honest to god did not see it coming :'))))
He got his magic stolen, went running to Twilight and told her the whole ordeal was mEANT AS A T E S T FOR HER TO MAKE HER FEEL CONFIDENT IN BECOMING A RULER

To be fair in the show he did make a pretty fun trio with Spike and Big Mac. Honestly his interactions with them are some of my favorite in the later seasons.
I also kind of like jerky Discord. Like I feel that's always been in his character and if they got rid of it then he wouldn't Discord. I do think they went too far in places.

I don't dislike Allmight. However, I can see why people would. He leaves a quirkless Izuku in a dangerous situation at least twice (not taking him to the hospital after he was attacked by the sludge villain, and on top of a roof with only one possibly locked exit.) He was also willing to let a child he didn't know die (Bakugo during the second sludge villain attack)
He repents for all those situations, plus it’s not like he was jsut letting the kid die. There were so many superhero’s there, and he had deflated. Like him saving the kid was the start of his downfall to not being able to use one for all.

Honestly, I actually really like Warren. I mean, he's a horrible horrible person obviously, but him being the villain in the episode kinda.. idk, felt cathartic? I've had a Warren as a friend before, someone who latches on to you like an energy leach, who you have to walk on eggshells around, who is so obsessive with you that he drives away your other friends until you're dependent on him as your only source for social needs.
The episode was just a massive reminder of that ex-friend of mine, and it felt good to watch the characters react to Warren the way they did.

Former Brony speaking up just to briefly talk about the MLP comics because DAMN they took a boring character character like Celestia and made her an incredible, multi-layered character who, despite her role and responsibilities, is just a person doing her best. (One of the first things explored in the comics was the crushing loneliness she had to face after she banished her sister to the moon.)
As for my personal thoughts on your placement of the characters, I am forced to agree that Starlight Sparkle is just an inferior Sunset Shimmer that isn't tied to the Equestria Girls spinoff movies.
Rainbow Dash I actually had to think about a lot, but I think I'd put her with Jimmy and Cindy. Like them, she's self-centered and full of flaws, yet she's never done anything that awful. (You cite her song about going to the Gala without even mentioning that everyone gets a song about why they wanna go and they're all equally for self-centered reasons.)
I will gladly debate any of the above-mentioned ponies with anyone that wants to make their case. However, I will not be debating my stances on Pinkie Pie (because she is precious and you all need to lay off her) or Twilight Sparkle (aka my spirit animal). DO NOT DEBATE ME ON THIS; YOU CANNOT WIN!

I only have comments on twilight here twilight is not "better" than her friends but she was definitely more deserving of that position because I think a lot of people forget that Twilight has been working under celestia since she was a kid so much so that she sent twilight to take care of an important celebration in the first episode and twilight didn't bat an eye so that's clearly something that she's done before the last thing twilight I needed to learn was friendship and how to handle life threatening situations, Celestia had been preparing Twilight for her wings way before she even met the rest of the main six and to say that all of them deserve that too kind of undermines the work she's done
when I was in my MLP phase (bearing in mind I must have been around 8-11 years old) Rainbow was my favourite and it pains me to see her not really getting much defence in these comments. I likes her because, unlike the others, she wasn't nearly as afraid to speak her mind or express confidence in herself, which reminded me a lot of myself. Sure, she took it too far sometimes, but the show was all about addressing why such behaviour could be problematic, and she went through an arc of slowly becoming less arrogant and rude, while not having her character completely overhauled.
Honestly I have always had a soft spot for Scrappy! I grew up watching the series with him on DVD and I never found him annoying! And when it came time and I watched the live action movie little me was not very happy!
Also to note on the other shows Rose/Pink diamond is such an interesting character and so complex! And Bakugou does go through a lot of development and gets better! And to some extent so does Mineta if that’s makes who feel any better!

I’m so glad that I’m not alone. As a kid I LOVED the episodes where Scrappy showed up, he was my favourite character. And then the movie happened.

If possible it would be amazing if you made a sequel, my most hated character is the cloud that rained on the duck in pocoyo, as a kid I drew on the tv to kill the cloud. I hate that cloud.
Also unironically I think Mineta/Bakugo would be such a trainwreck that the entire train would do a backflip and end up safely back on the tracks. Their personalities would clash in a way that I want to believe would force them to develop. For example, Mineta is a coward when the series starts. He gets... better? But still cowardly, I think. So if they're going to be together, Bakugo essentially has to learn to calm down so he's not constantly scaring the hell out of Mineta all the time. And Bakugo (as much off a dick as he is) also doesn't tolerate his friends messing around in things he disapproves of, and so Mineta would have to leave the girls alone under threat of being turned into a fine red mist.
As a person who loves shipping garbage characters together, I approve of this.

I understand the hate for Abe but sometimes I think people don’t realize that Clone High is a spoof of dramatic shows about teenagers where they purposely make Abe one of those annoying protagonists.

As someone who had a phase of liking bakugo, his appeal for me was in au/ua fanfics where he had to actually have a god damn character arc (good box of potential, poorly done in canon)
That scrappy doo scene also scared the fuck out of me for no reason too like I absolutely understand what you’re talking about when discussing that scene. I’m glad I’m not alone lol
