- I'll Take Manhattan is a 1987 American television miniseries, adapted from Judith Krantz's 1986 novel of the same name. Screened by CBS, it tells the story of the wealthy Amberville family, who run their own publishing company in New York. After Zachary Amberville, the patriarch of the family, dies, the company is taken over by his unscrupulous brother Cutter. Zachary's children, especially his energetic and intelligent daughter Maxi, begin a battle to regain control of their father's company.

I was searching on CZcams for this miniseries and since I couldn't find it, I decided I would upload it myself. Enjoy.
I miss the 80's, such great tv back then. The mini series were so good. I wss a single mom back tyen, i would rush home from work, i worked in a factory, got off at 3:30 pm, changed, showered and started dinner. My daughter and i would eati would plan tv night if we didn't have anything else planned. Such an easy time back then, money seemed to go further, life was easy. Tv shows today just don't compare.
That sounds lovely 😊. What TV shows did you like in the 80's?
I miss the 80s! The era of the Mini-Series. No Botox. Glamour. The best time to live. This is such a treat. I loved this as a teenager... Adoring it right now as a mature person.
We need Princess Daisy uploaded here.
You are so right and yes Princess Daisy would be marvelous.
@@jeanross7430 It was the first Book that I read that had a Lesbian Scene where Vanessa & her Husband Robin Valarian are a closeted Fashion House, who seduces Topsy Short the Young Trophy Wife of Ham Short. Lily did her best but she just didn't have that "thing" to bedazzle folks like Karen Kain or even Rudof Nureyev. Also in Scruples there was a Secret Society of Closeted Women who were very successful. The rejection reminds me of the Kids who go on Talent Shows and are rejected.
So true. The 80s were definitely glamorous, and they were natural. Not puffed up with botox and fillers. Please upload Scruples with Lindsay Wagner. 👍🏼
@@jeanross7430 I think it is online. Just type it in. Also Judith's Husband Steve Krantz did Cooley High that folks called The Black American Graffitti.
There was A really good one in the 70s too. Captains and the Kings. Can't find it! & Did I mention it had the late Richard Jordan? & Perry King
I miss these wonderful 80s mini series. Thanks for uploading this.
Barry Bostwick so gorgeous. 😊
I miss this time terribly everything was sooo nice and smooth
@@zeraldamina5089 Yeargh, tell me about it! It was the ONLY TIME when people were still ALIVE... Back then when people were people; and NOT zombies!
I think Perry King is sex god on legs! Woo-hoo 😂
Truer words were never spoken.
Cutter and Lily's chemistry is so powerful, it's so wrong but so delicious ❤
Loved this series. Barry Bostwick is so handsome
Man these were the days
You got that right. I watched so many of them. This one, The Thorn Birds, Lace were my Favorites and Little Gloria Happy At Last. So much talent. Also Barry Bostwick did Two Judith Krantz Movies this one and Till We Meet Again, while Stacy Keach did Mistral's Daughter & Princess Daisy. Also in The Opening Sequence, Zachary isn't really drinking Coffee because he would have had liquid on his lips.
After North and South, I'll take Manhattan was one of my favourite 1980s miniseries.
Loved ‘North and South ‘❤️
I'll give anything to go back to these times. I love I'll take Manhattan 🙌🏾
I wish i could have been there.
it seems like far better times than what we have now : )
@@hannahsdrawings8664 In terms of TV in the past 40 Years it's changed alot. Also Lifetime have done alot of Miniseries based on Books. Kathryn Hays who died this year who played Kim on As The world Turns from 1972-2010 admitted that Soaps now take a Backseat to Talk Shows

Apsolutno se slažem.
OMG!! I was a pre teen in Brazil dreaming of living in NYC. Today I live in Manhattan but im so obssesed with NYC from. 50's till 80's . Now Is becoming a "Monte Carlo". Thanks for posting!!!
I love the old mini-series! So many actors I enjoy, a fun story, clothes, cars, places to admire. Great fun.
❤thank you you are our hero.
Miss this times! People were still human. No using fowl language it is such a great walk on memory lane❤
Every scene is brilliant, great actors, wonderful acting skills, wonderful characters .
OH and Barry Bostwick. 😘🥰
I remember watching this as a teenager. I wanted to be called Maxine afterwards 😊
So emotional... Remembered... years ago in Polish TV each sundays evening... Perry King so atractive man...
Pamietam, z polskim dubbingiem. Serial jest super. Perry King mial dostac role Hana Solo. Przystojny, pozniej zagral w filmie tv z Lindsay Wagner- bardzo mi sie podobal ten film.
@@agneslaufer9579 wersja z dubbingiem miodzio. Podobno zaginela po pozarze. Obejrzalabym, bo z lektorem nie ten klimat. Pozdrawiam 😀
Ogladam poraz kolejny na CZcams.
Pamietam te niedzielne seansy-czekałam z Mama cały tydzień na kolejny odcinek-teraz mieszkam niedaleko od NY-trudno uwierzyc jak życie się czasem uklada.
Oh Wow! Perry King has been around for a long time. He did other Miniseries called The Last Convertible and The Lords Of Flatbush with Henry Winkler & Sylvester Stallone.
realyyyyyyyy miss this series..oh thank finally i found this here...i miss jack scalia
I grew up with this mini series
I miss 80s miniseries. They were such a wonderful vehicle. Long enough to be good, quality developed, abt short enough to tell your story! And finish it!
One of the best series
Omg, thanks so much for posting these! These 80s miniseries were the best!
I am SO EXCITED.
I have been trying to watch this for 25 years.
I loved Judith Kranz books and I remember watching this series, lovely find. Thank you for the upload, it is much appreciated.
Barry Bostwick still handsome today
Love the 80s miniseries and Valerie bertinell 😊❤ the fashion
Underrated show.
Truer words were never spoken.
……loved this series’ when it was first televised! Great to be able to see it again………
Oh that hair! I worked in publishing back then in the Big Apple for the 'real' Ambervilles...this is such fun.
Love Ella singing the intro, what a voice. Love the book.
Wouldn't it be something if it were discovered that she was a distant Relative of Rosse Kennedy. Her maiden name was also Fitzgerald.
There is something about this mini series - the mood... I don't know. A fairytale, she is so annoying, she even turns down a gorgeous man with own castle but she's great.
Though I'm using them everyday, all the time to be frank - I would rather live my entire life in times with no Internet and no mobiles. I would gladly switch to such reality today and I would never look back.
I watched this in Sweden and enjoyed not needing to read the subtitles! Don’t know why I’ve always remembered it, maybe it was the NYC magic!
WONDERFUL, GREAT ACTORS, STORY ETC, THANK YOU.
So do I,I grew up with this mini series
THANK YOU! I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS IN DECADES. GREAT FUN TO LOOK AT THE INTERIORS, DRESSES AND HAIR STYLES TOO.
Jack Scalia, Barry Bostwick, Perry King, Tim Daly, and Adam Stork. Yummeee!!!
the 80s and 90s the best
I'm glad its back on CZcams hooray
Zachary started Amberville Publications from Scratch and had to work darn hard for his. You just lived off of his Gravy Cutter.
I remember this and recording the theme song on my tape recorder 😂
I taped it too. I loved my tape recorder 😅
Better than some of 21st century tv👍
One of my favorites Valentine's movies.❤
Loved this mini series!
Ok Now ya got me..I like Zach and the model..the scene in the elevator was great! Love that humor❤😂
I just bought the book at a used bookstore. Thank you for uploading this miniseries.
Do you have the one with the Purple Cover
@@laminage Yes The hardback has a purple cover.
@@pjhey947 I had it too😁
I like many other’s love these 80’s mini series. Thank so very much for sharing this.
I love Perry King😍
Yeah, I also loved him in The Lords Of Flatbush. Did you know that Richard Gere was fired and Henry Winkler "replaced" him as Butchey Weinstein. Richard then played Danny Zuko in The West End (The UK Equivalent Of Broadway). I thought Nate called him "Oscar Meyer".
@@laminage oh yes Richard Gere oh my goodness, he is soon handsome..😍
I loved him in American Gigolo.😁
@@dionnepierre3455 Too bad he's such a pig in this mini-series.
@@suki44883 Did you ever see Perry King in The Last Convertible. It was another Miniseries based on The Novel by Anton Myer. It was The Third Novel about Harvard that had a Romantic Vibe about it. The others being Love Story by Eric Segal and The Paper Chase by John Jay Osbourne Jr.
Been looking for this for loooooooooooong time !Thank you
Thank you for posting!
Fantastic miniseries 😊❤ thank you for the upload
Thank you for posting this. Very much appreciated. It was great to see this again 30 some years later after first airing on network TV. 😀 Memories.
Thanks! Was looking for it for ages!
Cutter was such an SOB! He didn't care about Lily at all. He used her to get back at Zachary because he felt that their Parents favored Zachary over him. He also conveniently forgot that it was Zachary who while in College worked part time at a Restaurant and sent his Salary home and lived off of his Tips, generously paid for his Tuition at Stanford, and sent him a generous monthly allowance so he wouldn't have to work. He didn't even offer to work as a Clerk during his Summer Break.
Actually, Cutter gives SOBs a good name.
@@streathamsoprano8025 Perry King was such a great Actor. I still remember seeing him in The Lords Of Flatbush. Richard Gere briefly played Butchey before being replaced by Henry Winkler. He later went to England to play Danny Zuko in Grease where Olivia Newton-John saw The Play and loved it and not realizing that it would change her life forever.
Thanks for posting this. I didn't much care for the book, but so far, I'm liking the miniseries better. Oh man, the bad 80s hair and makeup! But the costumes in the 40s and 50s part are great.
I just realized this was the Second Miniseries where a Lunch consisted of getting Hot Dogs. The other was in Lace.
"Never never!"
This is really good, never saw it before, thanks for uploading all four episodes...on to the next!
What I loved about Zachary was his "Work Ethic". As you know in The Book he ran his Late Father's Newspaper, on a virtual Non Existent Budget, he worked as a Soda Jerk which was what Roy Frowick aka "Halston" did in Indiana growing up. Then in College he worked waiting Tables at The Lion's Den and then living off of his Tips and sent his Salary Home to his Mother which she really appreciated.
Zachary was very smart wearing Red. It was easier for The Helicopter Pilots to find him.
Aww God Bless Zachary. He had "Colored" Folks working for him. That was quite a thing in the 1950's not to mention Nina who is Jewish. They were treated ten times better than on Mad Men.
I loved this series! Thanks for uploading!❤
I was very little when my parents used to watch this. Was in a cassette 😅
There was another one....the hidden.
Oh no -- the acid wash jeans, those boots, the pushed-up sleeves. 😵😵😵😵
Thank you!
I am going to enjoy this.. Thanks ❤️
My 1st time watching this....Authentic Fashion in flashback ! 😮
80's melodrama at it's finest! Thank you for uploading!
Great movie Val you are 👍great,,
I used to have the book for this I miss it
I recognise Toronto in most of those outside shots - fun to spot your hometown
Zachary & Cutter's Relationship reminds me of The Kennedys or even Charles Dillon in School Ties with his Relationship with his Brother Grayson.
Love love this series
I'll Take Manhattan (TV Mini Series 1987)
Maxi Amberville tries to save the magazine empire her father built, but her treacherous uncle stands in her way. - imdb 6.9
Can you imagine the hard work that John H Johnson went through in 1945 when he first Created Ebony Magazine. It was for so many years an Institution in so many Negro/Colored/Black/African American Families. I grew up on it and I was blown away by The covers. He really kicked the door for so many African American Publications.
This has nothing to do with anything at all in this video.
@@IDontWantThisStupidHandlewas wondering if I was misremembering the series after seeing that as the top comment lol.
@@IDontWantThisStupidHandleWhat I am saying is that Zachary Amberville and John H. Johnson both started from scratch and became icons in publishing. Also Lloyd Thaxton who had a music show in the 1960's also created Tiger Beat in 1965 and then Right On in 1971 whose first Editor Cynthia Horner would later create Sisters In Style.
Then why keep asking for reparations stfu
Thanks 😊
I love the clothes and fashion......
Thank you
Perry King!
Never heard of this series . I was in college then so maybe thats why...Didnt watch any tv during college years
I would like to see Rich Man Poor man series
Perry King was the 80s got to baddie 😅😅😅
I can understand how angry Cutter was living in Zachary's Shadow but he did so much for him. Sending Money to the family while waiting tables at college, sending money to cutter for college and the like and not once did cutter offer to work, he just lived off of the fruits of his brother's labors. Also Ken Olin was doing Advertising with trimming trades, then he does it as Michael Steadman on Thirtysomething.
Also in The Movie The Bonfire Of The Vanities, Sherman McCoy played by Tom Hanks took The Dog out on a Rainy Day although the poor pet didn't want to go outside. From a Phone Booth, he calls his Mistress Maria The Token Wife of an Airport Billionaire but calls his House and tries to lie and deny but his Wife is nobody's Fool.
I wonder if anyone knows what the name and artist of the music playing during Cutter and Lily's love scenes?
Watched when I was a kid came in helpful when family was diagnosed with r.p. never seen rp represented in anything since
Barry Bostwick❤️
Yes Barry Bostwick 💕💕
Pepper Delafield is a Career Woman who didn't want to "Marry". She thought that Zachary would always be available to her.
She played herself and Lily was a foolish woman as well.
Fantastic.
Have you uploaded any other series on CZcams?
I wish someone would do a Movie about the History of Ebony Magazine which was the First Successful African Americna Magazine. Sadly it went Bankrupt in 2020 after 75 Years. The Man who created it was John H. Johnson who worked as a Janitor in a Building who scoped out possible Officespace.
Ugh
Lots of gorgeous men in this of all ages!
It is too naive of the part of an old man to think that he can leave his beautiful, young wife alone with a younger man without creating an atmosphere of temptation. And it is rather a matter of pride to take another man's wife, not of love. I am glad that this attorney had enough self esteem to claim his rights. May this young woman have found not only pleasure and wealth beside her chosen husband, but true love and happiness.
Fantastic era with great acting.
Is the actress who plays Maxie the same lady that has a cooking show on the Food Network?
She sure is! Valerie Bertinelli's first big break was on One Day At A Time. Then she did Hot In Cleveland.
@@laminage Thanks..😊
There are no subtitles in Greek.
Could you put your please?
All four episodes.
Thank you very much
I'm tempted solely by Francesca Annis
and Julianne Moore.
I used to like this movie and book, too. Not any more, the author of the book... forget it.
Why?
Ate the episode in you tube the complete episodes?
If the family runs a publishing house - shouldn't they spend some of their time actually reading 📚 books vs sailing ⛵ on yachts & flying in helicopters 🚁
Brad!
OMG Perry King was so handsome like a devil
Wasn’t hair great in those days?
Julianne Moore has certainly come a long way. Wow.
The Scene with The Pinball Machine reminds me of George Harrison's Song of "I've Got My Mind Set On You" where the "Original" Video had an Arcade. Then Amy Grant "redid" "Good For Me" because the first one had Lesbian Overtures.
i wonder if jane kaczmarek is carol burnetts twin.
Does anybody have The Two Mrs. Greenville's?
Would love to see it also!
@@lioness7582 Deception with S Powers is also free online, all 3 parts complete. Portofino BABY, remember that one? I'm 48 and I'm showing my age. 😂
I have been trying to get This Book for a long time. I read A Season In Purgatory that blew me away. Also I had no idea that Dominick Dunne also worked with The Late Mart Crowley in The Boys In The Band.
