- KID CREOLE & THE COCONUTS: "WHERE'S YOUR TABLE MANNER'S? (Full Song)" (Written by A Darnell)
Fresh Fruit In Foreign Places Musical / Ritz, NYC (1981)
With all due respect to the other talented ensembles past and present but in my opinion as Co-leader and Music Director of the band at the time, this is the best ensemble ever put together as well as one of the best shows. In addition to the three beautiful dancing-singing "Coconuts", it featured two drummers including the late great Winston Grennan and the gorgeous punk-rocking Lori Eastside as the female lead vocalist.
This was before all the adult and business shenanigans took over. We were just children enjoying the privilege of entertaining family, friends and fans. The show was polished but at the same time raw. The staging, sets and props were simple but effective. On top of all that the performances were an energetic and enthusiastic fun romp.

Original coconuts just can't be beaten they were so good and it was all so fresh then.
This is pure funk you can see where Prince was influenced
"What the hell, what the F*ck's, I still got my Coconuts" classic from those 'Tropical Gangster's' 😁
Agreed. Especially since Carol Coleman played Bass... Man she was badass!
We're all so lucky that this has been taped! And thanks to the great COATI MUNDI for sharing it with us!
Everytime I watch KCatC videos I don't know what to admire more:
- the brilliant showmanship (what great entertainers, both KC and Coati Mundi) (and great choreographies of those lovely Coconuts),
- the outstanding musical performances (what a tight band, great musicians, great sound)
- the pure energy and punch of it all.
My pleasure!

They should have been at least a little bigger here in the US.
Ice-T ~ "Pimpin' ain't easy"

UNFORGETABLE EXPERIENCE ... GREAT CONCEPT, GREAT MUSICIANS, PEOPLE, GREAT SHOW ...
the band is Funky - Super Heavy...i never knew the band was like this i am bugging out on Dr Buzzard Kid Creole videos right now....REAL deal F - un with a K - for Kindness
Saw them live three times in Sweden. One time they broke the public record with 30.000+ people at the Liseberg Amusement Park in Gothenburg.
I think Carol Colman is my perfect bassist - so much groove she drives the whole band forward like a funky truck, but still never gets in anyone's way. A total team player yet never ever plays anything boring. Thanks for sharing this gem!
Carol was the rock ....glad you spotted that ...and thank you James
Agree- solid deep pocket for days!
Totally agree, she is a fantastic bass player, she is the queen of groove and drive.
Carol and the drummer are locked!! Pocket for days!!
Thanks Coati for all the wonderful memories!!
PRICELESS !!! Frame this one, Sign it and Bequeath to yur MIL's grandchildren:-) We Be like...Family?
Coati Mundi is amazing as is the Kid and the rest of this hugely talented band. Coral Colman is great talent.

carol is an enigma, her bass is bigger than her but she has so much presence, never seeks any limelight and is SOOO cool, I wonder what this talented lady is doing 40 years later?
Me too Bill. Lovin ya from Brooklyn

Never buy Texas from a cowboy and never a bridge while you're in Brooklyn 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm way late to this party, regretfully. But I'm enjoying it now! I'm in love with Carol Coleman's playing. She has a very unusual technique -- if I saw a beginning bass player play the way she does, I'd probably advise against it, but man does she make it work for her! And Coati, you're a madman, a very fun madman!
I'd be happy to have her technique!😁😁
Minneapolis funk before Minneapolis funk was even invented.
I have watched this 10 times this week…it has got me through a very stressful and busy holiday! However, a lot of things worked out in my favor, so I’m now stressing in a good way! Great jams make it all better! Happy Holidays 💗🎄🍾🎉✨
She is inimitable: any epithet suitable for Miss Carol Colman!
I’ve been listening to Kid Creole & The Coconuts since I was an infant due to it being a staple of my parents’ everyday soundtrack. A criminally underrated act that I’m upset I wasn’t around to experience. And I’m so grateful for the diligence in uploading these shows, Mr Mundi. It’s often incredibly hard for me to find clear footage of my favorite musical acts that were killin’ on the music scene before the big breakout of the video age. So having so much DBOSB and Kid Creole live content to sift through is a blessing in itself and I’m loving every second of it!
The concerts of this band - brilliance!!
Best live band at the time 80s . 3 times I seen them in Liverpool.
Go Carol Go,,!!,!, he needs to bring the original band and Coconuts back.
It is FIRE !!!
What the fuss! Once this starts you have to watch and hear every second of it.
This is the coolest show band ever.
Amazing shows every time. loved the band for live Paris show- pretty similar i believe. Love Kid Creole - Coati Mundi and every coconut I've seen and watched
I saw this fantastic and explosive group in 85, in Ferrara, Italy, I loved Mr Coati Mundi and the Kid but the Coconuts .... mmmmmm ...
Fantastic performance .
Still loving and appreciating you guys in 2022...

Good times! Great performance! 😍❤🎉
Cheers Chrissie !!!
I wish got to see them live!
Saw you guys live in Liverpool almost 40 years ago. Can't beat a big powerful band with horns. Saw Fela Kuti at the Shrine in Lagos and Kassav in Angola. You all have that energy, that live power of a big band with real musicians. Thanks for this video, brother!

They should be RRHOF just on stamina alone.
Yes I agree . Kid Creole & The Cocanuts is the best band line up. They are well respected but they deserve more accolades imo. (Music & performances & 2nd to none) FACTS
Wow, wow, wow !!!
Amazing performance. What a band. "Where is my banana boat?"

Seen you twice. Carol Colman!!!!! That is all!
You folks were incredible!
Wow, I have to say you and the Kid arranged/produced such a litany of songs, with the live arrangements so energy driven, ya just got to get up an move with the groove that just flows. Your dance moves are reminiscent of the late, great Nicholas Brothers so physical, yet beautiful choreography! The world class musicians of "Wrecking Crew" status, least of all yourself with the host of instruments you've mastered. Perhaps a funding site could be organized to defray the expense of restoring these priceless jewels. Always a treat to see more of these shows back in the mainstream where they can be shared with the next generation of fans!
It was a plum pleasing pleasure being part of this experience .... glad to able to share the history via this platform.
Appreciate those lovely sentiments. It was no joke putting the show together but it was a labor of love.
Couldn't agree more Coati.
It just dawned on me that you & Kid Creole must have been the blueprint for the Morris Day/Jerome and Prince/Jerome pairing concept.

Lori Eastside doesn't get enough credit...!
I agree ...Lori was the best and contributed so much to development of the group in the early years

Always good chemistry between the Kid and Coati Mundi, always good chemistry with the CoCoNuTs too! Go Coati :)
un fuck,n beeeeeee leeeeable wow wow wow
a good time..lots of get up and go.
I only came here because I googled "Carol Colman". I remember a Kid Creole concert in the 1980ies and I was so impressed by that attractive bass player - not only because of her play (and her looks), but also as she seemed so cool and composed amid all that extravagance, vibrancy and flamboyancy around her. If you look at the video: she's hardly moving at all, just concentrating on her play. And here, more than 30 years later I still remember her name...
I wonder what she is up to these days, there is indeed very little (and dated) information on her on the internet. It appears she was/is suffering from an incurable disease. Is she still performing on stage? Any information?
CC was amazing ... not sure if she is playing anywhere but still around on the planet
@@CoatiMundiWorld Thank you, Coati, I did not even expect a reply from you, that's really kind! In fact I remember your performance on stage very well too - not least of all because of that fancy and indeed clever nickname... :-)
All the best! Ian.
She was a roommate of mine for a few years. Real character. Honestly I don't think I ever saw her get angry at anyone. Very kind, mellow person in my experience.
The one time I jammed with her she made me sound a lot better than I am.
I read somewhere she was battling Lupus 🥺
Fue una de las mejores épocas, en concierto lo mejor!
Si es la verdad ... gracias por compartiendo su sentimiento ... cuidate siempre
Oh Mundi!! I so agree with you. This truly was the BEST KC&TC band ever. That incessant groove is a wonder to behold. I loved how spontaneous it all seemed to be, yet at the same time so well rehearsed too. What fantastic times, this band took over my life at the time and I don't regret a minute of it!. Special mention for Carol 'bass-it Carol' Colman and my favourite three Coconuts of all time. Still waiting to meet Taryn, where are you young lady?
Gracias Dominic .... and yes Colman was the rock, she kept the jams and the cats on point ...
Cheers for viewing Paz
Mr. Mundi - thanks a million for keeping these great clips up !!!
Happy Christmas coati have a ood one x
After listening it seems this band has a little more punch and jam in the playing as opposed to other bands. The funk level is higher as well. The other bands were just as competent but seem to lack the free wheeling funk and jam vibe of what we hear here.
Lori Eastman rips!
NO DOUBT!!!

I fully agree with the title that this best line up! And Live at Ritz can be ranked in 100 best concerts ever regarding of music genre. But I am still curious who is behind the name of video concert producer ,is this THE George Harrison !?
Absolutely love this series of videos(Ritz), but I'm curious if you remember the order of the songs on the set list. I've tried to figure it out by following the costume changes but I'm still baffled. I can group certain songs together, but then I can't figure out the order of the groups.
Is it true that they were more famous here in Europe than in USA?
Yes
Perfectly agree! At the full and the best! So funky!
Coati, does this Ritz concert has some more unrealised material fm this gigs and is producer of video release Live t at The Ritz is THE George Harrison or some other guy!
Not GH ... and re unreleased material or edited out footage from this gig ...I do not know who has it or if it is included in the DVD you mentioned.
Without Coati now it's pretty lame but hats off to August to keep the memories going allbeit with watered down coconuts compared to Cheryl Taryn and Addy
