One of the songs I‘m currently prepping for my book is The Next Ten Minutes (Jamie‘s Part) from The Last Five Years, and I‘m actually rehearsing with my girlfriend as Cathy so I really get it in my body and really have the person in front of me, so when I do the audition I‘m fully prepared and can really see Cathy in front of me.
So many nuggets of wisdom in this episode! 🙌🏾 Would you suggest going through a dance number and applying the same actor questions to the combination (especially for a dance call)?
It's a bit different for dance, but yes, asking questions and working through any material in musical theater whether script, dance, blocking or music is always helpful!
Always great advice and it is so appreciated. I got a callback for an off broadway musical and this will definitely help me prepare better for it. I also would like to ask or if you guys can ever create a video on what to do when you've received an offer for something but then called back for something else that you may want more. How do you guys work that out? Thank you again for taking the time to create these videos and sharing with us all!
Congrats on the callback! Yes, the conundrum of multiple offers. We will do a video on that topic. The basic advice would be to make a pros and cons document, weigh the options intellectually, then ultimately go with your heart/gut.
We love hearing from you! Let us know how your audition books are shaping up. Any questions? Don't hesitate to reach out in the comments!
