I’ve done a bunch of auditions and never heard about the squiggly line to cut out sections. So helpful!!

So glad it was helpful! There are many ways to show cuts, but most MDs/Pianists prefer the standard way as shown. :)

This was also extremely helpful. I was probably doing 1 of these 10 things--haha! So valuable hearing about the needs of the accompanest. Thank you!

Thank you so much Austin for this valuable information. I really appreciate that you showed us how to appropriately mark our cuts. I've always tried to avoid cutting and usually just sing from like a portion of a verse to chorus or bridge to chorus etc, but you explained it well and I look forward to trying it out. Kind Regards!

I'm so glad you found it helpful! We are going to continue to work on some content that really helps highlight what auditions books should look like and how to best construct them. A verse and chorus is great like you said, but sometimes the text doesn't quite give you enough to work with acting wise, which is normally where the bridge helps to provide the "epiphany" moment. With the cuts, you can construct the best version of the acting beats and dramatic arc of the audition cut. Let us know if you have any further questions!

I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to this. In case you don't cover this, any strategies talking with accompanists at community theatre auditions vs regional/pro ones? I've noticed a difference sometimes in how well rarer material is interpreted and was wondering if there was anything I could say that might make the audition more successful. Thanks!

Thank you Drew! We have an episode discussing what to do when the accompanist is struggling releasing this week! I think you might find it helpful! Let us know if you have more questions and we can work on another video for you. Thanks so much for subscribing.
