    We are the same age (June '66). I remember at 10 years old walking into the hardware store with my Marlin 60 buying a box of .22 and going to the creek and shooting all day. NO ONE SAID A WORD ABOUT IT! I was taught the safety rules and how/what to shoot.

    I look at the saw stop cartel and how they almost become required in the US for commercial shops. Also, dado stacks in other countries are not permitted... Hell, look at the restrictions on paint, solvents and other chemicals. I get that they are dangerous, but if you know how to use them and how to dispose of them, there is very little danger.

      Canadians should primarily focus on Canadian issues, Americans should primarily focus on American issues. If you think Canada will ever revert to the United States view on weapons, our highly restictive weapons laws are closer to Britain/most western countries in that respect and will remain so unfortunately. We DO NOT have the right to defend our property, our country is very different.

And I tried it with a piece of paper and got similar results, but you gotta get it going, and the pushing works, but it doesn't push in a straight line or anything, it follows some leftover grain in the paper or something. anyway for the purpose of a home woodworker this is a great sharpening method, Im glad you reshared. The precision with the professional machines I highly doubt actually is a necessity, rather just a property the machines have which is then later labeled as necessary

    Safety police everywhere. People do take risks, it's in our nature, and the more cotton wool we are wrapped in, the more obscure are the risks. We used to work at heights with nothing between the beams we were standing on and the ground. Rules came in - over FOUR FEET above the ground you either need approved scaffolding with hand rails, kick boards etc, or approved safety harness that is subject to mandatory testing. Increases costs no end. However, we are becoming so dumbed down we will lean against a hand rail at height without questioning its integrity ( Big Brother legislation says that if is safe), and take our chances. A tourist in Thailand fell to her death when the rail she was leaning against collapsed, she expected it to be of the legislated standard of her home country. Do not even think about suing, it aint going to work.

    Wow John, you earned even greater respect from me for your comments on how the "few" in the US & Canada continue to take away basic rights and common sense everyday items (guns & table saws) claiming to "protect" the general population. I remember when we had bring your gun to school days, usually in Fall before hunting season. Attempts to save everyone from all possible harm will collapse our society and governance.

    Hi John, I live in the UK, and you need to get a licence before you can own a gun, I am also seventy years old and apart from a few years in the Royal Navy I have never owned or had any thoughts of owning a gun. Our police force is one of the few that are not armed as standard, and we have very few gun problems. My brother on the other side does own several guns, but his guns are locked away at the gun club and he is not allowed to take them home, I have talked to him many times about guns, and he has always said the guns do not kill people, people kill people. The news is covering killings in schools, this is one place were guns should never be and no government should allow people under the age of twenty to be able to get guns, I know the USA allows anyone to have guns and I also know that they will never stop kids from getting guns, but if they stopped for a minute and made the parents responsible for locking up an guns and only allowing the children to have a gun when they are available to monitor what the children were doing it would stop a lot of problems. Sorry about the rant but at least i have commented?

      @daifeichu Před 2 lety

      I'm from Canada. Like America, Canadian teenagers use to take their rifle to school and not shoot it up. The government has taken God out of school and instead let perversity in. You can ban legal ownership all you want but criminals can easily get their hands on a gun.

    • @IBuildItScrapBin
      @IBuildItScrapBin  Před 2 lety +15

      The UK (and Canada and several other advanced nations) had low gun related killings before there were any restrictions put in place. It's not the restrictions that reduce the incidences - it's the people.
      There isn't a gun problem here to f__king solve, just like there wasn't one in the UK. People who defend this political posturing as virtuous and necessary are totally ignorant of the facts and how the real world works.

      @@IBuildItScrapBin there's not always a high gun ownership rate to high gun homicide rate correlation, but there is always a low gun ownership rate to low gun homicide rate correlation.
