    Great video! I'll be switching to this oil on my next oil change. Toyota told me they found no external leaks on my 2012 Camry, 4 cyl, AFRE engine (a known oil burner, even with routine 5K oil service) and I need an engine rebuild. The car runs well, I have 200K on it and I just keep an eye on the oil level for now. From looking at various channels the consensus I get is crudded, carbon seized oil control rings, allowing oil into the combustion chamber. Also, I commend you because most channels do not respond to viewer comments and I see you try to.

    I just bought my first 5qt. jug of Valvoline R&P for my 1999 Camry 4 cyl w/ 200k. I had been using Pennzoil Natural Gas High Mileage which my engine really loves (compared to the Walmart synthetic I had begun using- but got a big puff of smoke at morning start-up. This suggested valve seal wear, however, the smoke mostly stopped with the Pennzoil). My engine uses about a 3/4 qt every 600-800 miles I'd say. Can't wait to see if this burning slows down over the next 20K miles with this Valvoline.

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  Před 4 dny +1

      Thanks for checking in. Does your engine blow blue smoke at initial start? That does indicate worn valve seals. And does it smoke when you're at high rpm in gear and let your foot off the gas? That also indicates valve seals. I don't see how the oil will make a difference with valve seal issues. It might be the color of the smoke between the Walmart & Pennzoil brands is what you're observing.

    I am gonna try using this oil im my Honda Accord 2012 with 200K miles on it. I don't understand why everybody says about 4 oil changes. According to the recent video from Lake Speed Jr. at the Valvoline Test Lab, this oil already cleaned pistons significantly after 4K miles/90 hrs of use. So, you also noticed a significant drop in oil consumption after all, right. It leads me to thinking that this oil could have cleaned the area under the piston rings thus restoring the rings flexibility that eventually led to reduced oil consumption. I will definitely try it my next oil change. Really looking forward to see more updates from you regarding its performance. Thanks

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  Před měsícem +4

      The "4 oil changes" claim is from Valvoline. They make the claim that after 4 oil changes, pistons will be returned to factory cleanliness. Your thinking is my thinking... my oil consumption is down, hopefully because the rings are now free to move and expand within the ring lands. My truck is out of commission with a transmission rebuild, but once back on the road, I'll continue to report my use of this oil. With regard to Lake Speed's video, I was not completely impressed. They should have shown piston improvement as claimed by Valvoline. They only showed a piston that has some removal of build-up. Lost opportunity with that video.

      @@DrivingIntelligence Well, I truly hope this oil in your case will do what you expect it to do. As for me, I will be more than happy if this oil provides the results in short term they showed in that video. In the end it is just an oil. It is not a specific remedy like those Mystery Marvel Oil and others from that snake oils group. Usually motor oils provide and maintain cleanliness but do not clean prior dirt build up that well. This seems like does. We will see later I guess. Best of luck and keep us updated please. Thanks.

      I saw his video, but I wasn’t impressed with their demonstration of Pistons being cleaned. I think they could’ve done a better job, however, that doesn’t keep me from trying the product and as I note in the video, I've experienced reduced oil consumption which may be due to reduced ring deposits.

    • @nordicpride9708
      @nordicpride9708 Před měsícem +3

      @@DrivingIntelligence Again it takes time. There is no other oil other than HPL which isn’t mainstream (boutique oil blender) that offers an oil that actually progressively cleans pistons (a very hard task even for dedicated flushes and the like). I have a lot of experience with all of these products as I rebuild engines and am a heavy line tech. I have zero allegiance to one company over another. Valvoline really did a great job with this product. But again, one oil change isn’t gonna cut it. Same goes with HPL, which is also a very good American 🇺🇸 blender. Theirs comes in quarts and isn’t a dedicated oil like Valvolines product.
      If you want the best flush try BG EPR. It’s truly in a class of its own.

      @@DrivingIntelligence I’ve found that running BG EPR twice as long when the engine is hot is the key to success. I have used it on countless LS motors with lifter tick and the results speak for themselves. However those trucks typically were abused and get 2-3 treatments of BG EPR followed by Mobil 1 0w-40 which can do some very light cleaning. Im here looking to see if guys run this in there flat tappets! I want to run this in my 2.8 s10 but want to make sure i can run a synthetic in my ol girl, i really like the cleaning propertys of this oil but am afraid of not having zddp protection that conveniental oils have. From what i have found synthetic may be just fine for older engins!?

      best answer will come directly from Valvoline Technical Support. I'd look up there number on the internet and give them a call.

      What year is your S10? I'm no expert on those specifically, but I would expect that the valve spring pressures on an old American truck engine are low enough to be a non issue.
      Also, unless you specifically buy a high ZDDP oil, most conventional oils don't have any more ZDDP than synthetic oils. The API limits the ZDDP that can be in any 30 grade or thinner oils with an SM approval or later to ~800 PPM. 40 grade and thicker is allowed to have more, but that doesn't mean it actually will.

    Instead of denting your tubing. Why didn't you just get a slightly smaller V-belt

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  Před 18 dny +1

      that is an excellent question. I searched high and wide to find a belt that would fit and prevent impact, couldn't find anything. But truth be told, the tolerances of the design were too tight anyway.

      @@DrivingIntelligence so I had to replace my driver side valve cover and had some very light build up. So I did an oil change using this oil. So far so good. I noticed a slight quietness to my engine as well. From my understanding doing some more reading, apparently you have to do multiple oil changes using this oil to really see the benefits. Reading a lot of comments, it's getting some really good reviews.

    Ok..This is not going to help "piston slap"...The clearance issue piston/ rings/cylinder walls from cold/operating temp..Rebuild/machining..Heres a classic I would use..Engine Restorer CSL(Copper-Silver-Lead) It fiils in rings/ bearings/guides..Valvoline is just rehashing with additives from competitors....

      Can you please cite your studies and experience that leads you to this conclusion? Just to help you see possibilities, I did an Internet search and this came up at the top:
      “Can piston rings cause piston slap?
      Several factors can contribute to the development of piston slap in vehicles. These include: Excessive wear or damage to piston rings. Incorrect piston-to-cylinder wall clearance.”
