Childhood Friends Turned Enemies

- The plaintiff met the defendant in second grade, and they were best friends. Years later, the defendant moved in with the plaintiff and allegedly failed to pay rent, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant insists the plaintiff was jealous of her lifestyle, and she claims she babysat the plaintiff’s children in lieu of rent. Therefore, the defendant says she doesn’t owe anything.

FYI, if she blocked her right after moving that means you’re hiding from her bc you owe her money!
My thoughts exactly! Then you got the nerve to send her your gift registry? She is not a good person at all. Talking about we could have talked about this, that's the whole problem...you skipped out without a word!
I feel like she was at her breaking point. You know how hard it is to tip toe around someones house when you know they don't want you there? Just using you for a babysitter? She did right by just leaving. That girl was getting over on here big time. But because she is a bit louder she thought the court would reason with her because she thinks she is better and her story is more sad smh
That could also mean that she was done using her and just didn’t want to face her, she pitty herself for using so she blocked her to not have to face her
@@nathanpenny4723 oh, the defendant definitely was using her! She came in her time of need, lied about not having money and just watched the kid here and there for a few hours while she plotted her exit! Never heard either one of them say the defendant was not welcomed there.
Yep
She blocked the girl and said “We could’ve spoke about this”🙄 She better hope she ain’t gotta crossed that bridge again
Judge Mathis was out of order for this Judgement. 😢
Why?
@@jplaya2023 Right!! I'll rather pay the rent than to watch someone else's child hours out the week. That's stressful.
Completely disagree with this verdict. She should’ve at least got a month worth due to not getting a notice.
Right, she coulda been looking for a new roommate if she had that notice....
Exactly.
Agreed
I agree with u but watching a child for an hour is hard. Yet alone someone else child. Childcare is expensive
@@kemi182 you’re totally right! I guess I’m just confused because in prior cases, people have had the same defense and judge Mathis would say “if there wasn’t an agreement it doesn’t matter” and then again that’s why I think at least 1 month would’ve been sufficient bc of her failure to legally give a 30 day notice. She didn’t pay for months so the defendant at least deserved that 🤷🏽♀️
Just because someone is attractive and have friends, that doesn't mean they aren't jealous. JM judged based on his preference once again.
Doesn't he always judge people in that form?
JM was dead wrong for his verdict. The defendant owed something. Proud of the plaintiff.
Just because people have a lot of friends, does not mean they still don't want attention. I've seen really popular people get jealous because someone else out shines them.
Exactly. Judge Mathis sometimes just jumps to conclusions. In middle and highschool there was a girl who was far more popular than me and had more friends and she was always trying to bring me into things I did not care about to make me look bad. I’m assuming she just hated I was above highschool crap and somehow I wasn’t popular but literally knew everyone.
Facts
People with a lot of "friends" are the fakest individuals ever...because most of their "friends" do shit like this if they had the opportunity.
Just because she babysit the plaintiff child that doesn't excuse her, for not paying her rent if there was no agreement.
The plaintiff agreed that there was a trade off. It was a verbal agreement.
I get tired of ppl with no will or skill using babysitting as an excuse not to repay debt.
Exactly. I disagree with the judgment.
There as a verbal agreement . The plantiff just didn’t know how expensive childcare was so she felt she was still
Owed money
She paid approximately $10 an hour for childcare while she worked. That's less than minimum wage in many places. Honestly, she owes the defendant.
The defendant was dead ass wrong and once again JM judged on who he liked more vs facts of the case.
You know how much childcare costs? She got 48 hours from her for one month. In actuality, the plaintiff would owe the defendant if the monetary value was calculated at the current childcare costs and rates.
You sound emotional like the female
He does that a lot I went on his show and he done the same thing I’m glad u noticed that 😮😮😮
Agree with Mike Mike
As its his court room. He took everything into consideration. Great ruling!
I really loved the plaintiffs energy and vibe! The defendant on the other hand definitely took advantage of her best friend probably bc she felt like her best friend owed her from the past. I am very glad both ladies are doing well and are in their own crib doing well in life bc there's no place like your own home😉
The defendant is weird. You leave with no notice and block her on everything. Why??? Because she knows she was freeloading
how does having friends mean that you are not an attention seeker?
How could your spoke about this if you blocked her on everything?🤔😱😱😱
Props to plaintiff and at the end, defendant says this could’ve been avoided by speaking about it.
However she is the one that blocked the plaintiff and never gave notice so uhm yea.
JM shouldn’t have dismissed her case. Even if that was the agreement, it was only until the defendant could get back on her feet. JM should have questioned where she got the funds to move out if she wasn’t working, that alone says she had money somewhere that she could have paid the plaintiff towards rent
Pretty much explains why she was so secretive about moving! She claimed she had no money, why else would you block her phone number on your way out?
Exactly what I was thinking... How you got money to get your own place but no money to pay your friend rent?
Probably she find a man who take her inn 🤔
THANK YOU!!!! Where did she get money to move? She owed her and tip toed around leaving, then blocked her.
I was thinking the same thing because she said she was buying stuff for the house like toiletries and stuff but how if she had no money. She had money the whole time she just wanted some place to stay for free while she can save her money and get her own
If she didn’t owe her why did she block her?
She’s a user running from the used
Very good point, judge Mathis what's wrong on this one
If she didn’t own her why did she block her?
JM got every experience in the world.. smh

Exactly! Knows all about it!
Now any other time the judge would have been like “if it wasn’t discussed and agreed upon, then you taking care of her kid is irrelevant”
He is hyper hypocritical.
I completely disagree with the judge. Just because someone has a lot of friends and gets a lot of attention doesn't mean they don't crave more. Think of celebrities, no one gets more attention than they do. However some pull stunts for even more publicity.
That form of attention isn’t personal, it’s not one on one.
They get money & more views for stuff like that tho. But some ppl do crave more attention tho.
Yes We Are Proud Of You Young Lady🖤
BUMP
How could they have spoke “ya blocked her”! 🤣
I don’t think the judgement was fair. The defendant didn’t have a job so she would of been home anyway. She is trying to act like she is Mary Poppins 😂
Right. She was living rent free. Sucking up all the electricity all day… the least could do is watch the kids sometimes.
Lmao not Mary Poppins the nanny with twelveteen kids to look after
The defendant used the plaintiff to stack her money to get her own place. She's trifling af.
Her Karma is coming.
thats exactly what i was thinking!! she probably hid her job from her to get her own house smh
The defendant said “we could’ve talked about this”. HOW?! If you blocked her 🤣🙄
I'm paying $1,200 -$1,500 a month for daycare. I would absolutely love to pay someone only 400 for it.
True. The defendant also got room and board out of the deal though.
Its why Only Black People needs to stop Popping out Babies out of Wedlock (With NO FATHERS In the picture) then they won't have to worry about these High Daycare Fees.
If you pay $400 a month for daycare, your baby isn’t learning anything 😂
@@thornton254 or the state just pays most of it depending on your income.
It makes sense that someone staying with you for free doesn't give a 30-day notice because they are couch hopping, not a tenant. I had a friend sleeping on my couch leave within 24 hours, when I suggested that she should go to her dad's house. I sure didn't need or want 30 day notice. You don't live here. This is a pit stop. This lady should have told her friend that she was leaving though especially since they were friends and she was helping with babysitting.
But the original agreement was she was a tenant.. she lost her job I would assume once she she started working she would continue to pay not dip out.
Nope. They had an agreement.
That 400 a week for childcare in your own. She probably was just watching her not educating her or anything and it was only for 12 hours. I think she still should’ve paid a discounted rent.
How tf could they have spoken about it if SHE BLOCKED HER on everything?!?!
Its why I wouldn't even move in True Friends, having Roommates can destroy friendships. I've been there
She didn’t give notice because she didn’t want to get asked for money
The plaintiff face as Judge Mathis was ranting is priceless.
Congratulations to the consistent lady in the audience on the weight loss!! You look amazing sis 😍 💕
Defendant: We could've spoken about this... With what, smoke signals. Plaintiff was blocked. 😂
The other party has to agree that the services rendered will offset the balance owed.
JM has said that in numerous other rulings, but totally contradicted himself here
I think judge had a crush on the defendant
So happy for the lady in the back. She lost all of that Covid weight. She looks great
Yesss! She looks good 😍
I thought I was just me😊
The defendant saved her money not paying rent and got herself a house
If they could've "spoke about it" they wouldn't be here, so obviously they weren't capable of handling the issue on their own😅
The defendant should’ve had to pay simply because she was essentially the live-in caregiver of the child. Moving without notice changed the terms and now the plaintiff has to quickly find alternate childcare which could be a hardship. The plaintiff did not present her case well enough but the defendant was wrong for just leaving like that. Whether or not she was paid fairly doesn’t matter because she agreed to it.
Good argument I didn’t even think of this
@@musiclover6842 thank you 😊. I don’t think the judge thought of it either, he was so busy comparing his wife’s experience
So you expect an employee to pay an employer for quitting without notice?
@@autumnsummers6599 totally different scenario… not understanding your point. This was an exchange of service for room and board. Not an employee/employer situation.
There was never an agreement to offset that rent, because she was kind enough to watch the kid 3 days a week I would have made a deduction
It wasn't coincidental that the defendant lost her job 2 weeks after she moved into the plaintiff's home. She was laying on the plaintiff
Flakey judge! Flakey decision! This woman moves in, pays $300 in prorated rent, doesn't pay another dime the entire time that she lived there, manages to save enough to get her own place, then moves out with no notice. Thus judge, who thinks he's King Solomon, offsets what she owes with babysitting for three hours three days a week?!!? That is inequitable on its face! Another bad decision by JM.
The defendant took advantage of the plaintiff! The plaintiff had a tough upbringing! The defendant was being petty! Trying to justify why she pay rent.
I’m not mature enough to have been cool after this ruling😭😂
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
We friends!!!!🤣

I like that he gv the first girl a compliment after thy said she jealous
The girl in green has beautiful skin ijs
See she felt like she didn’t have to pay rent for all that time her mama took care of J’licia when they were younger.
I’m not understanding why the defendant left like that. And why block her?? It’s definitely more to it
Did I miss something? Did they make an agreement for her to babysit in exchange for free rent???
Having a lot of friends doesn't automatically = getting all the attention that they seek.
Great point.
❤ to all you judge Mathis fans.
you and your loved ones aswell
Friends turned to enemies is right cuz who? I don’t agree with the verdict at all. So because they had a verbal agreement and she watched her son a few hours out the week she deserves not to be paid ?! Doesn’t make sense. She took advantage of her and the situation. She handled herself very well. Dole would’ve had to escort me out .
If a verbal agreement. It usually doesn't count in the court
@@jannettsnow I know. That’s what makes this so strange
I have provided a lot of babysitting and caregiving for my five sisters' and was not compensated. There are at least two dozen nieces and nephews who I have repeatedly baby sat for. They didn't pay me. I don't know why mothers believe that they shouldn't pay for sitters' work? As if we don't have a life to live. WE DO!! It is no reason to think we're just itching to babysit their children. I finally learned to say "No" to them. Let them pay for it from someone else--not me.
Yes make them pay and go broke with real daycare they don't appreciate REAL help & don't deserve it
If my family they don't have pay me there family
Are we forgetting her living in the house rent free?
@@jannettsnowyes but put some boundaries if you don't want to become mary Poppins
She admitted she owe the money and jm said so what you don’t have to pay
He damn right! Child care is upwards of 1k per month. That girl doesn’t owe her any money.
ole girl that left without saying anything deserves to pay up all the money she owed
Judge Mathis is wrong for this . He could prorated a amount from what she owed her for the rent
This was the right verdict. Even at the most generous rate per hour, as Judge Mathis said, 48 hours of child care a month will add up; with her amount thst easily equals AT LEAST $1k in child care. Not only was the rent offset, the plaintiff would have paid way more if she hired a nanny or sent her kid to daycare for that amount of time every month.
Sometimes lately it's like Judge Mathis is becoming senile or something
Yes! Ive seen this through out the years of my life with elders, its the rambling, irritations, talking in circles , clouded thinking, not listening etc...... He might need to step down.
Sounds like she saves her money for her own place.
It doesn't matter that she babysat for her, if they didn't agree that the babysitting would go towards the rent, she's doing it for free. It's sad that JM's rulings are based on feelings, not evidence. Jealousy also isn't always a bad thing, people can be jealous/want your life because it looks better without harming you.
Y’all don’t listen. She OFFSET the rent in exchange for child care. Meaning she preferred to pay $475 for childcare that would cost almost $2,000 instead of receiving rent payment.
That's fair. To watch her kids was a lot. I NEVER EVER want to be responsible for ANYONE'S children.
The defendant was using the plaintiff.
Shortly after moving in you lost your job , yea right. She saved her money then when she had enough saved she left
IN MY VIEW
The Plaintiff: Went from being homeless to High School Graduate, Has a job, Supports her little family, Stable home lifestyle.
Defendant: User.
Not the defendant saying, we could’ve spoke about this it didn’t have to go this far. yet she blocked her off of everything 😂😂😂😂 like girl are you ok 🤨
Off top, the defendant's hair color makes me think she is the problem. Lol
Yea, he was wrong for that. I would NEVER deal with the defendant again.
You can tell from the beginning that Greg Mathis was going to be prejudice against the plaintiff that’s why I can’t call him a judge. He needs to step down smh
Shoutout to both of these ladies, very articulate amd well mannered. We need to see more of this. And JM was right on this, pretty much an even exchange if you think about it
So she didn't have money to pay rent but she had money for a new place?! 🤔 She lying.
I totally agree with you!
I don't believe you didn't have the money to stay there because if you had the money to move out you had more money than you were saying!!!😮
Judge they had no agreement on childcare
Right
Exactly! She made her own agreement then moved out with no notice. He just does what he wants. Started remembering all the kids Linda kept them switched up!
Right. Cuz in most cases he says you didn’t have an agreement. But now, he’s saying it was an offset! Smh. He so wishy washy.
Another friendship downed by the almighty dollar.
The eyes are the windows to the soul, some of these people have evil eyes like the defendant. Like she is ready to go off at any moment.
The defendant blocked the plaintiff and said it could've been avoided if she had talked to her. How, when you blocked her from contacting you? I don't agree with JM application of law here.
If her family kept me from homelessness as a child, I'd forgive that debt!
Should’ve went to judge Judy, lol she wouldn’t have let that slide. That was not the contract between them
Daycare is expensive, she would have paid more than 1200 per month for Daycare. Her friend watching her kids did her a huge favor. The verdict is correct.
No the hell it aint
There's are 1000s of ppl on the internet with 1000s of followers who will seek out attention JM.
The defendant will definitely reap what she sow,,the fact that she moved and instantly blocked her say everything
That girl got her tax money and dipped out smh.. I would’ve at least gave her something for letting me stay
The judge was totally wrong in this case. The “friend” was a user and she was the jealous one. I don’t understand the judge sometimes when he acts like this. Especially when the plaintiff was trying to help this girl.
The daycares where I live charge almost $250 for 3 days a week for ONE child . Why would she expect the defendant to watch her multiple kids for 4 hours for 3-4 days a week for free ?
Because she was living there for free is my guess.
Multiple? I thought I heard 1 son
@@tjneverdefeated4394 so then her babysitting is in exchange for the rent . Im not gonna watch your kids everyday and pay you rent
@@shelocsher2396 she said kids as plural so I assumed she had more than one
How about now she snuck out and left her to scramble and find a replacement for child care with no warning! The defendant is trash! She blocked her number cause she had the money. The plaintiff just didn't do a good job presenting her case, if she had of came from the childcare angle, and how it impacted her, she would have least gotten something.
Anytime someone comes out saying “they’re jealous” I don’t take them an ounce serious
I don’t understand why some ppl said JM got it wrong. He had it right, she let her know her situation how she couldn’t pay rent, they came to a resolution to watch her kid instead of the rent. If I was the defendant I leave too I wouldn’t have gave a 30 day notice but as a friend I’d let you know I’m leaving. kinda foul to block “your friend” but the plaintiff just take it as a lesson don’t move your friends in 😅
Pay the girl
Period.
I agree with the verdict... by the plantiff admission the defendant babysitting her kid for 12hours a week, which is 48 hours a month. in some cities they get paid 17.50 a hour.. $758 a month..it was enough to pay the rent..
It’s nice Judhe Mathis has his son on new show but it’ll never be the same without Doyle…. Cracking his 😊jokes
Poor judgement!! her living there was never for free. She never asked her to pay her because she is watching her child?? The baby probably slept till 10/12 when the mom gets home still have to do everything!
When the plaintiff lived with the defendant's family, did they get financial assistance. Now the defendant' had a need to live with the defendant and she wanted to sue the defendant.
Where is the compassion towards the defendant.
Not the same thing
The plaintiff is greedy. She acting high and mighty about giving her space to live, but quick to want rent money. The defendant moving out right away rly was a good decision. Avoided all the toxic drama and better chance to repair friendship.
She blocked the plaintiff, she's shady herself.
@@peacheskong2245 its rly not abt who being shady. The defendant won bc she lived there rent free for 6 months, no problems. That voided any grounds for plaintiff to sue.

But I thought that if there was no agreement to store items or to offset something in particular that someone's doing consistently regularly that you can't bring it up now in court.
The defendant should have paid at least one month's rent for failing to provide notice. Also, I'm sure it was hard for the plaintiff to find a new babysitter for the child at the last minute.

Judge, I'm really surprised that your verdict . you are normally a very fair man. Or should I say excuse me a very fair judge. Why you disagreed with the plaintiff? I really don't understand just because she watched her child. That was just her way of helping out but she really was putting her money under the rug so she could move out. So she used her so that's what the judge should have said! I'm still proud of the girl who made it out of the shelters in one piece and really has a pretty nice or should I say a very good head on her shoulders. More power to you sis 💝
