sorry but, what? I get that he's a badass and he can probably push himself harder and longer than 99% of the people on planet earth, but it seems a bit silly to comment "pure brute discipline" on a video in which he attempts to burn 10,000 calories and barely gets 5,000....
pure brute discipline would have been 10,000. he did exactly what you would expect an undisciplined person might do. he went until it was too much. then he reluctantly went a bit further. then he quit. then he says he felt the same way this day as he did all of the 120 days he was in ranger school? not impressed. was actually shocked the ranger gave up.

Dude all of my workouts are done fasted. This shit REALLY inspired me. Goes to show just how far we can truly push our bodies in a day.
@John Kelly It's a good question. And honestly the only I answer I have is it depends (as always) on what your goals are. If you're looking for power output then personally I've noticed I do better when I've had a good meal. I think the idea of working out fasted promotes mostly just getting lean.

Most calories I've ever burned (and measured) was 8,244 during a fifty mile walk complete in 16.5 hrs. Your fasted effort is super commendable.
Love your honesty and ability to admit "failure", although I would hardly call this attempt anything other than inspiring and extraordinary.

I get what you're thinking Nick. When I did a mid-distance march in my NCO school in the swiss army, my watch registered a little more than 2200 kcal. But it's the fasting that hits. It was about 25 km and 550 m of ascent (+700m descent), we had slept maybe two hours in the camp we'd set up, and only ate a few granola bars before starting. Even though it looks like a small march, the little sleep, the little calories we had eaten and the weight we had to carry made us suckin' after some km. It's not the amount of calories that you're burning, it's the mental state and the exterior factors that make you feel what you're feeling.

I found your channel watching a channel I've been following for about 2 years @TeamRICHEY and realized one of my old soldiers was one of your old soldiers lol... small world, I was danny dearden's PSG in 3rd CR. I myself am getting out early next year and have been struggling to find what my motivation to stay fit is going to be after it's no longer a part of my job. I think its awesome that you've made a career out of fitness and thank you for giving me someone to relate to and hopefully some motivation not to get fat after I'm out!

Your body will burn many more calories in the hours after your workouts, when it’s in recovery mode- especially when sleeping. Maybe you were closer to 10,000 than you think!

U burned more calories then the watch said because u were wearing weight and the watch wouldn’t have measured that.
Wouldn't the increased weight register as a higher heart rate, therefore the watch does measure it?
He can input his body weight, height, etc so he probably changed his body weight temporarily to compensate.

@@RpMcMurphy_ Actually my garmin forerunner if anything underestimates calorie expenditure. Usually it's fairly spot on but thats just been my experience.
I believe the watch only measures calories burnt by movement, it doesn’t calculate the calories you burn by lifting heavy and doing force exercices
