  • In 1970 James Sochor was named head football coach of UC Davis. He delivered 20 winning seasons and 18 consecutive titles during his coaching, which continues to be an NCAA record. Having instilled Aggie Pride into the heart of his players, he showed them that unity and togetherness are essential to any team, which was proved true when four players went on to claim Superbowl rings.

I grew up watching these teams in Davis and am so privileged to have witnessed most of these consecutive conference titles. Listening to him again after so many years reminds me of what a humble, soft spoken, and visionary leader this man was. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest coaches in the history of all sports, but more importantly, he is one of the finest human beings ever to have graced the Earth.
    RIP Jim Sochor.
