  • Have you ever wondered if you're truly in control of your life or if life is controlling you? In this psychoeducational video, Dr. Kate Truitt shares with us the concept of internal locus of control versus external locus of control and how it shapes our experiences.
When we feel like we're in charge, we radiate a sense of internal locus of control. But when life seems to dictate our every move, we're stuck in a reactive state, and we feel powerless.
Join us as we explore the transition from an external to an internal locus of control, understanding how our brains prioritize threats and reactions. By learning to shift our mindset and take ownership of our choices, we can begin to break free from the cycle of feeling controlled by external factors.

Thank you Dr Truitt, looking forward to watching these videos. I am just about to retire and my mind keeps flipping between the two loci. Sometimes, it's no problem, i've got this. Other times, it's really scary. I know that it is just Amy acting up though and somewhere in my core is a voice saying it's going to be alright.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and congratulations on your retirement! It’s entirely natural to experience a mix of emotions about retirement, from confidence and excitement about the freedom it brings, to worry about what's in store for the future. You're not alone in this. Sending you much warmth and healing ❤️❤️‍🩹❤️

I don’t understand the connection thing. I genuinely do not have a support structure. My wife has little empathy for me and my family is who caused this. I have friends who say, “call/text anytime because I’m here for you,” but they don’t respond when asked. They’ll invite me to some fun activity rather than stop to listen and have maybe a 30 minute conversation. It’s great that I can be around people I guess but they still make me feel like I’m a dog. People talk about “treats me like a dog,” but I think this is something else. I’m a house plant, a dog in a handbag, I’m apparently not someone to be heard or taken seriously. People don’t actually care that I’m alive, just that I don’t opt to change it. I’m hurting so fucking bad and I have to stay silent. My heartbeat is messed up and I’m in pain all the time which makes no sense because I can hardly feel or recognize “my” body. I know currently that feel angry and abandoned. I can name those emotions at least. I’m just so tired.

I'm truly sorry to hear about the pain and isolation you're experiencing. Recognizing and naming your feelings is an important step in understanding your emotional landscape and it's strong work that you're able to do so despite these challenging circumstances. Your experiences and feelings are valid and it's important to find avenues of support that can offer the validation and care you need. Please know that it's okay to seek out those spaces and relationships that can offer the understanding and compassion you deserve. 💗 There is light at the end of the tunnel. Sending you much needed warmth, strength and healing ❤️❤️‍🩹❤️
