Thanks for this video! I'll add a last possible tune-up: at the back of the fence, behind the black plastic thing, there is another screw to tighten the grip when you push the lever. On mine, it was a bit too loose and the fence was able to move a bit.
That is a good point. I forgot about that one.
My fence had quite a bit of play on it when not clamped making it difficult to stay parallel to the blade when setting the fence's position. In my case it wasn't the screw at the back which was the problem, but the plastic runners on the underside of the near end of the fence (the end with the clamping handle). Adding a few layers of thick tape to them fixed the problem for me. Just thought it would be useful to add that here in case anyone else had the same problem.

I had an issue with mine that it wouldn’t set to 45 degrees. It ended up that there was a build up of compressed sawdust on the guide rail. Cleaned it up and now able to set the 45degree stop.

I had been frustrated by my saw for months, it turned out that the back of the blade was nearly 1cm out of parallel to the tracks! It's cutting square and true now, all thanks to your video👍

Thank you very much, after changing the blade the alignment from front to back was 2 mm off for weeks. I blamed the new blade, then i tried the old original blade, off too... and your video was the only help i found to adjust it. Awesome!

I found that to adjust the alignment of the blade I had to loosen BOTH screws at the back, not just the left one. Then alignment was easy.
However the nuts they use on those bolts leave a bit to be desired. Theres a little wall on the casting underneath that is supposed to stop the nuts from spinning, but one nut wasn’t contacting it. TBH the nuts look a bit undersized. I may replace them.

@@CasualDIY Actually I think it probably was your video that made them decide to bundle a fine-cut blade for wood with the table recently (only issue there being - that blade could be better too). Evolution are not scared of criticism, I pointed out very small flaws like the formed tube leg has no protection from damage and although they supply plugs to prevent contaminants getting inside the tubes, they don't supply enough of them.
Thanks as I've had mine for a couple of years now and after a lot of work it needs a thorough overhaul of every single one of the items you covered.

Thanks, yes the one in the UK was 13m2 and this one is 21m2 but I also have a separate room (when it de-cluttered) for my resin projects that is 9m2. So yes a lot more space👍
Nice video Tomasz. Good reminder of the important settings. I find I use my plunge saw more often these days. I hate the blade guard on this machine and think you did well to lose it. Newer machines appear to have a redsigned blade guard, but not obvious if this fits earlier machines or if you can buy it as an after-market replacement. Thanks for sharing. Always something worth watching in your videos.
Thanks mate, yes that is so true about the blade guard. To be absolutely honest I hardly use it anyway. I don't recommend not using it but I feel its more in the way and causes more issues that provides safety.

Thanks. Yes the sound is horrible mainly due to the echo. I'm posting a vlog video today where I touch on that. I have also moved to a new video editing software as could not afford the subscription for Premier Pro. So I'm still trying to learn the new one. The vlog will have the sound enhanced but not sure if it sounds better or worse. If I could ask a favour and if you got 5 minutes to watch that vlog and let me know if the sound is better or worse I would appreciate that greatly.
Hi Tomasz, just watched the video where you were discussing electrics, flooring, door insulation is that the one you refer to ? if so the sound is worse on that one than this (IMHO) shouldn't worry about it too much it's the content that matters.

Not sure if you’ve seen this video by @alexandre chappel but it’s pretty simple (and cheap) to make some DIY acoustic panels for your new workshop: czcams.com/video/XIP2Mix_bwM/video.html. Might help with the sound. Personally I didn’t mind the sound + I’d rather you just produced content :-) I currently have an old Triton Workcentre 2000 and keep being indecisive about whether to switch to the Rage 5s or a more expensive (quieter) saw!

Yes the sound is horrible mainly to the echo - I touch on that in my vlog that is coming out today. And the fact I'm working on a new video editing software. I was using Adobe Premier Pro but I can't afford the subscription for it anymore, so I had to move to a new free one and I'm still trying to learn how to operate it. The mentioned vlog that is coming out today has changes to the sound a bit so please let me know if its better or worse.

Very good video !! ... I accidentally stripped where the riving knife bolts into as it is tapped in aluminium ... If something like this happens , a helicoil kit (mine was from a brand called neo tools) works brilliant !!! ..... Regarding blades , im using a brand called graphite tools which incidentally i believe they are polish .... Very good blades and they come with reducer rings included, plus they are not terribly expensive , about 20 to 25 euros for a blade
I seen few comments from my community that they had the same problem as you. Faulty design in my opinion there, wrong materials used.

Hi,
Do you mean the scale that is on the front of the machine where the fence rides on? If so then no lol The sticker with the scale has more or less peeled off in some places and I can't ready it correctly. But truth to be told, I have never used it. I always measure the distance between the fence and the blade.

Thank you so much for this and your similar videos. I’m new to woodworking and have just bought a Rage5-S but I’m having a problem. My blade and riving knife are slightly out of alignment so my wood catches and stops moving when encountering the knife. You mentioned in this video how important alignment is but don’t mention how to correct it. Any ideas would be welcome. Tony
Hi, Ok so the first thing is to remove the riving knife and check if it's not bent. If it's straight then in a way you can adjust it position by the bolt and the aluminium plate that it's holding the knife. I had this issue with my blade. The bolt seemed tight on the aluminium plate but I have forced another turn of the bolt and it moved the knife into the correct position. So try to adjust the tension of that bolt that hold the aluminium plate which holds the knife in place. Hope this helps
@@CasualDIY thanks I’ll try that. I may have cured it a different way. Being brand new I had not had any reason to touch the blade. Today I decided to remove the blade to see if there was an obvious problem. There wasn’t but, when refitting the blade I instantly saw that the alignment was better. So, it looks as if the blade had not been properly fitted in the factory. So, now I can start rewatching all of your videos on how to construct some jigs. Thanks again! I’m loving your videos. Tony

Great vid. Once i get 90 degrees i have to use a clamp to stop it moving away, the locking lever does not hold it.
I'm pretty sure the lock leaver has some bolts that you could tighten up?
@@CasualDIY Yeah it has which i tightened ,but it it still moves.
perhaps need to be a little tighter? but atm lever is quite hard to press into position.
Your explanations are very clear, I watch your video carefully because I am looking for my first table saw, initially I was looking more at the Dewalt 7485 but I find the price way too high and at the moment the Evolution Rage 5s costs €300 on their site and I admit that the size of the blade is larger than the Dewalt would you recommend it to me based on your experience with this machine? Is the guide reliable? (sorry for this endless text!!!🤣🤣 🤣)
If you are willing to tune up your saw and you are not expecting 100% accuracy out of the box then yes I would recommend Evo. You can make it as accurate as Dewalt.

Awesome videos and thanks, your videos helped me choose this table saw. All has been going well, until I tried to do my first 45 deg cut. The blade does not stay straight when tilted to 45, it’s like the blade housing doesn’t tilt as much at the back of the table as it does at the front.
Any tips you’ve got on this would be great.

Check if there isn't anything in the way. Also the dust port at the back as that moves with the motor as its tilted. Plus you can check the limiter at the front if it's set up correctly
you're reading my mind, on my list of things todo this weekend, and was about to start searching for the tunr up videos. Thanks for saving me time :-). Quick question though, would you do the saw alignment before the angle alignment? in my mind if you change the alignment of teh saw blade, wouldn't that affect the angle somwhat? Let me know if I am talking total rubbish :-D
The saw alignment is towards the mitre grove so it will move horizontally only. This should not affect the angle alignment. But you can do it and let me know if it did 😅👍

Thanks this is all great info. I just bought this saw for it's portability and price. I haven't used it yet but I did put it together. So far I am not impressed. The slide is garbage and I'll have to make new sleds for it because the slide that came with it could be awesome if it didn't have so much play in it.
If you think there is something wrong with this saw then ask for replacement or email Evolution customer service for support, they are usually quite good.
Yeah I actually really should. It was missing a few cosmetics parts but nothing serious that would effect using it but I'd still like to have them. It was nice and square already and it's not a bad saw it just has a few small issues.

I’ve just aligned the fence to the blade successfully, but could I ask if it’s normal for the back of the fence to raise up slightly when the locking lever is tightened?
I can’t see a way to adjust this.
No it shouldn't raise up. Maybe the back clamp is too tight? Try to adjust that.
Tomasz, I have a question regarding this table saw. In my machine, plastic in the orange crank used for up/down of the blade is totally worn out, which basically means I can rip or cross cut just fine, however I cannot fix the blad for stable height e.g. to make grooves. Do you know - or do you know some1 who knows - if replacing the crank will solve the problem, or is there more to it?
If you can identify which parts are worse out then you can order those parts from Evolution. Just get in touch with their customer service and they should point you in the right direction
Great video, thanks. My major problem with the Rage 5S is the dust collection. Even with all the pipes connected correctly there seems to be a multitude of places on the body of the saw where dust escapes, after use there is always a covering of dust on the floor. Have you had this problem and is it just something you have to live with?
Unfortunately everyone has this problem with this saw. One of the solutions is to make a base with dust extraction. I have made several attempts at different solutions but without any major breakthroughs.
I've been trying to set mine up for hours now, thought I was going mad, checking the blade is at 90 deg to the table, one side of the blade was OK, the other was not, no, I wasn't measuring using the flimsy throat plate, it wasn't until I placed a straight edge across the table that I found the table isn't flat, mostly where the blade is, it's about 1.2 degrees out, took me hours to figure that out, I was even wondering if the blade itself had cupped slightly, check and double checked, the table simply isn't flat, that's a bummer, can't fix that really.
For now I've had to set it up so that if I'm ripping narrow pieces to the right of the blade I set the guage to 0 (zero deg) but if I'm ripping wider pieces I set the guage to the stop screw, may contact Evolution UK to see what they have to say.
I would try to get it replaced. Table needs to be flat
Hi I was wondering if you had any suggestions for getting the rage 5s to go to 45. I can only go to 50 degrees then it runs out of room. Is there any adjustments that I am not seeing. This is with the use of the digital angle thing you use on your video. Any help would be welcome thanks
Yes at the front of the machine where the orange wheel is at both ends you got positive stops. You can un do them with a hex key and move into the right position. I think I show that in this video. If that doesn't work then most likely you got some saw dust build up on the cog mechanism inside. So I would check that as well and give it a good clean. Hope this helps.
Hi Tomasz, I'm a bit late to this thread, but I'm glad I came across it, I've been so disappointed with the Rage 5S, I was about to se it and buy a Dewalt or Bosch!
My issue has always been with the blade/mitre track alignment.
This may have been covered elsewhere in the thread, but undoing 1 rear bolt did not give me enough movement? I had a look underneath, and the bracket that deals with alignment has 2 x elongated holes, one on each of the bolts; by loosening both bolts, it allows you to move the rear adjusting bracket more.
I see that there is a video by Evolution themselves saying loosen just one, but it didn't move it for me?
If by undoing more bolts you are able to get the motor and blade straight to the mitre tracks then go for it. The one bolts is as per instructions etc. But there may be more issues with your particular saw and you need other adjustments. Just to be sure I would contact Evolution customer service that are quite good 👍
@@CasualDIY i actually took mine fully apart, table top off!! I accept that Evolution show one bolt to adjust, this just isn't true, not meaning to sound clever, but undoing one bolt will not allow any movement of rear of saw, the other bolt will hold it firm. I wish I'd taken pictures to show the part 😕 Anyway, keep up the good work, great videos overall😁
@@garychance4494 I found this to be the case also, I adjusted mine this afternoon. I was able to get enough adjustment with only loosening the two bolts at the riving knife end of the table, if I loosened all four it would have moved around far too easily.
Hello Thomasz. I have one question for rage5. I have bought a few weeks ago, and i have problem that realy bothers me, and that is a very bad vacuuming when i cut anything. Can i do something for better vacuming? I have very strong vacum machine, but i don't know what is the problem. Maybe i need to do zero clerance first? Thanks and sorry for my english.
Hi mate. The dust extraction on this saw is very poor and that's it. I'm designing something to improve that but that's still a work in progress so the video will not come out sooner than in a month time.
Hi Thomas , my riving knife is over slightly to the left , a couple off mil ,even after setting blade square, and when cutting lengths of timber it causes it to bow to that side ,trying to bend it back is impossible as sprung steal, is their anyway it can be adjusted , shimming maybe or may have to get a new Knife
Take the riving knife out and place it on something super flat to check if it is flat or maybe it got bent somehow. If its bent then you got your answer. If not then you are most likely in the same boat I was. I had to tighten the bolt and plate that securing the knife more than it actually needs to be. The additional pressure made it straight with the blade. Just be careful as the holding plate may crack on you.

Hi Thomas, thanks for this. I have a question for you though. The Writhing knife bracket has somehow become misaligned. I was cutting a piece, everything as usual (been using these Evolution Saws for years) thrn a bit of a pop and a "bang, bamg, bang, bang" and loads of wobbling! Blade, all the couplings, the motor itself all seem straight but I have found that now my blade is pointed to the left, i.e. no longer running horizontal to the fence. I tried the nut you rightly mentioned but no joy. I can see that the bracket is what it now keeps hitting. Its shaved a nice curve into it, and no real damage to the blade so great, but a wobbly blade is no good to anyone. Any ideas?
Well first of all don't operate the saw in this state. Is the blade straight or is it bent?
I would get in touch with Evo customer services with some photos and maybe a video. They got engineers there that would know straight away whats wrong and how to fix it
I have been looking to get a table saw and wondered about this saw . As you have had yours for a few years now and you seem happy with it , is there any advise or regretts.
U do like this saw very much despite its many flaws. If you watch through my videos on this saw, and there's a few you should get a clear picture of what I have improved and still on the to do list. If you can get it for no more than £300 then it's a very good buy in my opinion
1. When I switch the power off, in the final moments of the blade spinning, just before is stops I can see that the blade has a wobble. Is this normal?
2. My first ever square cuts are out approx 0.4mm on 15 cm planks. Should I tweak the blade position or this accuracy is OK for the tool?
Check if the blade is not bent, and also check if the blade is correctly installed. Its actually fairly easy to put it in incorrectly.
Hi Tomasz great to see you back online again. Regarding the riving knife, mine is not totally in line with the blade which is set up correctly. Do you know what the best is way to line it up with the blade? Thanks!
I had that issue as well. And what I did is by tightening or loosening the bolt that is holding the plate with the arrow that secures the riving knife to the saw. In my case I had to tighten in a lot, but be careful and don' over do it. Also check if the riving knife is flat/ straight. put it against something dead flat.
I had this problem too, what worked for me was loosening the nut, clamping the blade to the riving knife, then tightening it up again
Hi Tomasz, Great video and far better than any manual that comes with the saw. I have had an issue with mine for quite some time, when I check the squareness of the blade, at either side, to the top of my table, its always slightly out. So if I make a change on one side to sort it and get it 90 degrees, it makes the other side worse. Do you have any idea how to fix this? Thanks
You trying to get your blade at 90 to your table right? Is your table flat? As this could be an issue. Is your blade flat, not bent slightly?
@@CasualDIY Hi Tomasz, just double-checked the table top and it's flat all round, so no issues there. I've tried two blades and it's the same with both blades. There's a gap of about 0.2mm at the bottom of the blade at each side, and I've no idea how to correct that.
@@geo8808 is the gap 2mm or 0.2mm if its 0.2mm then that will not affect anything. 2mm is a problem

Awesome video my guy! I've recently bought this saw cause of you. Quick question.How screwed am I if the blade alignment bolt on the back left that you described is stripped. Atm the blade cuts true but I'm worry about it down the line. Any tips on removing the strip bolt maybe?
Hmm if it came like that then I would get in touch with Evolution customer service. Your tool needs to be perfect out of the box ( I mean the condition not necessarily the accuracy of cuts - that can be set up). Hmm there are ways of dealing with stripped bolts, like those drill bits that drill through the head of a bolt to give it thread or something. Not sure if they actually work. But I will tell you this. If the blade is parallel to the grove (mitre slot on the right) then is little chance that this will change. I have moved between countries the saw was a table for my stuff on the lorry and in storage and that this not affect my blade being parallel to the grove.
I was adjusting the table this afternoon and the nut fell off the back of the bolt. Mine sits under the table outside the plastic motor housing/body and was really easy to put back on. The nut is held on one side only to allow the bolt to be loosened/tightened without a spanner on the nut. If the bolt is stripped it should be a straight forward fix by just replacing the bolt and nut with ones of the same shape and dimensions.
Does anyone know what the body moulding/carrier below the push stick holder position is for. Also the opposite side below the spare blade/spanner carrier seems to be for the fence but it is not a good fit.

As the other screws are for mounting and only this one for adjustment

Great video. The saw seems to have a lot more ability to be fine tuned than my own, very tempted by it. I cut a lot of oak, does it cut hardwood ok in your experience? Does the lower r.p.m's have any effect?
If you get a better blade than the standard multi blade that comes with the saw then yes, it works just fine. My favourite blade at the moment is the Saxton one that has the same harbour size as the original Evo blade so no need for reducing rings. But be warned, officially if you use a different blade that an Evo one then you may loose your warranty. That is how they make most of the money I think. Through the blades that are not that cheep. Done a video on the blades you can check it out if you want.

Hi Thomasz or anyone please can you help me. My Rage 5-S has been off until I saw this video. I’ve managed to sort the 90 degree angle but unfortunately I’m having a big problem trying to get the 45 degrees correct. It goes as far as 45.55 - 45.44 degrees but if I force it and lock it, it just springs back. Please help. 😱
Springs back to what degree?
You can setup positive stops for the 45 degree. If something I'd blocking the movement then please check the back where the dust extraction hose goes as that part moves when setting an angle and something could be blocking the movement. Secondly check the underneath where the movement mechanism is and see if there is something blocking the movement there. For example build up of dust.

I purchased a 'standard' size aftermarket miter gauge for my rage5 only to find that the miter slot on the rage is not a 'standard' 3/8" deep but rather only 1/4" deep so I can't use it. Does anybody know of an aftermarket miter gauge that fits the rage5?

Looks like I've stripped the thread when tightening the riving knife. Not stripped the bolt. Its the clamping plate thread that's stripped. I suppose that is the danger with a steel bolt into an aluminium thread. Not sure where to go from here.
The plate with the arrow on it to indicate which way it needs to be placed?

You can drill that aluminium plate and insert a stainless steel helicoil into it. That way you're tightening a steel bolt into a steel thread, not into a soft aluminium thread :)

No not at all. If you do that means the fence is not parallel to the blade. That's my best guess.

Old saying ……bad workman/woman always blames the tools…….was happy with mine out of the box for general cutting but this video has made it even better for finer work ,set your tools up right and you will avoid problems

@@seanhudspeth well, easily said, but I really got frustrated with this saw. Examples are that the fence is constantly moving, necessary measuring exactly before each cut between blade and fence, table not really plane and so on. Also the saw has low rpm which simply does not produce a really good cut. I now have a dewalt 7492 and the workflow with it is so much better. It produces cuts that can be directly joined together as you can see in some of my videos. If you want to save a bit and be an engineer fixing your tools - well ok, but if possible I would really recommend spending just a little more and getting something that just works fine out of the box and dramatically speeds up your work. Does that make me a bad craftswoman?🤷🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️Anna
It has Low rpm as it’s a high torque motor,that’s the way it’s designed,as stated before,do research prior to purchase. it’s designed a certain way ,if that doesn’t suit you and your way of working then that is not the manufacturers fault ,it’s not designed for only wood cutting as a design, feature it’s designed to cut wood,metal,plastic wood with nails in 1 single blade etc 2 things your dewalt will not do with its higher RPM speed and unsuitable blade
In the uk that dewalt is £750-£850 the rage 5 is £270-£300 typically,the evolution can also cut a full width sheet which is a major selling (point for my purposes )
Another old saying here is Horses for courses,the dewalt is a one shot device
A little tuning is a minuscule price to pay for something that is 1\2 the £££££
I’ve Never had any issues with the fence moving on mine,as previously stated it’s been great straight of the box so again I’d say your comment regarding selling as it’s not reliable it,is unjust you simply may of needed to tweak a couple of bolts,the dewalt uses a rack and pinion fence which is not comparable with a clamp lock on an item 1/2 the cost and tbh aimed at a different area of the sale market
your comparison to dewalt is akin to that of a Ford Focus and an Audi A3 both ,do the same job but one has advanced engineering features so costs much more

Useful information but the audio quality not what it used to be; it's thin and rather low in volume.
Yes, the echo in the empty garage is making the sound bad. Plus I had to change to a new video editing software as could not afford to pay for the Premier Pro. So still a bit of learning for me. I just finished editing my vlog where I played around with the sound. It should be out this Sunday. So please let me know if the sound is better or worse👍
@@CasualDIY Are you using the camera mic? If so you should probably invest in an external lapel mic at some point. The sound quality is only poor when you're standing further away from the camera. When you're closer or doing voice over the audio is fine.

I took my blade off to clear out small slivers ( no zero clearance plate yet!) and when i put the blade back on - the blade was not in line with the riving knife. How can I adjust the riving knife to be in line with the blade? My blade is at 90 degrees.
If you haven't touch the riving knife just the blade then you put the blade back on incorrectly. I would double check the blade first. Its actually fairly easy to put it wrong.

Not sure what slots you mean. you can try to adjust the tension at the back of the fence. There is a black plastic cover and underneath it there is a nut you can try to adjust

I have a problem I can't work out on mine: The measuring line on the front is four/five mm out. I have the 0 on the orange marker, but when i put the fence flush with the blade I'd expect to see 50mm on the gauge (when using the extra fence extension). But it's 5mm out. The adjustment on the viewer tab isn't enough to get rid of it - I can't work out why it's not measuring properly. Hi, if you adjusted the indicators on the fence itself then my best bet is to adjust the aluminium rail that has the measuring sticker on it. However from my own perspective - I have never used that feature I always measure from the blade's teeth to the fence - different blades got different thicknesses so each time you change your blade you would have to change the measuring ruler thingy....

Great vid. Once i get 90 degrees i have to use a clamp to stop it moving away, the locking lever does not hold it.
When the clamp is undone can you find the bolt it is attached to and tighten it a bit? You might need to adjust it a few times to sneak up on the pressure needed to clamp it with the mechanism, you don’t want to overdo it and then have difficulty releasing it to change the bevel.
I had a look from the back of the clamp, the bolt appears to be captive to the handle and there is a nylon insert nut on the back. Should be easy to adjust (mine doesn’t need to be adjusted yet), but as suggested you could check with the manufacturer.
