    I owned that 69 dodge Daytona purchased it from Race mothers in Marion Ohio brand new off the show room. With no guarantee as the hood was sealed I traded my Olds 442 on that car while attending OSU. After that car I went to a 454 corvette so I was use to power on the street. I put those stickers on the car and drove it around as my parents about had a heart attack. One day I drove into an intersection of an interstate and was met with a guy that was driving a Plymouth super bird 440 six pack. He took off down the interstate and I did also, as I blew his doors off before we reached an overpass. He was the son of a local car dealership and though he had the best beast in town until he met my car, he went limping back to daddy.

    One thing makes me wonder........I hear this fellow say we did this and we did that. I wonder if he is like my dad. My dad takes credit for stuff he didn't do. He just pays the bills. I do the work and he takes the credit. LOL I love the fact that they are taking care and giving new life to this car.

    I didn't see you mention anything about the air cleaner. The only 426 Hemi part that I have is an original, untouched '69 Hemi air cleaner and base that was a wall hanger since the mid '70s. It would look perfect in that engine compartment. If you're interested, let me know, I can get you some pictures. Great video of an amazing survivor, btw!

    • @JenningsWingCars
      @JenningsWingCars  Před 3 lety

      Of course-thanks for the note Burb. The air cleaner on a 1969 Hemi is a chrome round one, and on a 1970 Hemi is the oval one with an orange top. Always interested in old parts-give me a shout taxspeaker@gmail.com

      Sorry, Omar. Your car sounds really nice, but it's not in "this" Daytona's league - not even close. "This" Daytona is just one of a handful of pieces that make up the "Holy Grail" of American car history. But keep your 2006 up; people will enjoy it!

    Personally I love the "day 2 look" with the decals, hedders, etc. I would love to see it with the mag wheels as it was in its heyday, but I totally get the rarity, relative near 100% originality and high value of a car like that, having it returned to original it what it deserves.

  • @rdecoster1
    @rdecoster1 Před 3 lety +2

    When you clean parts and surfaces under the hood, try using WD-40 as a cleaning solvent. Use a tooth brush or soft straight cut type brush (like a house paint brush) and go at it. The WD will dissolve petroleum/grease/oil while not damaging paint or plastic. It will also work wonders on rubber hose's and wiring. I use white paper towels to wipe so you can see when all dirt is removed. For parts like the cooling fan WD will work well to remove the road film that gets blown back from driving in the rain. After going at it with WD-40 to remove all dirt and crud then wash with Formula 409 and clean water to remove the WD-40. You will be surprised how well this works. Meguires new "Ultimate" series compound and polish is what I would recommend on saving original paint. Some new formula in "Ultimate" series removes oxidation with chemicals instead of abrasives. So you won't scratch the snot out of the paint or grind it off with coarse compounds. LPS # 1 makes a nice final cleaning solvent as it works like WD but does not attract dirt. I use LPS#1 and tooth brush on wire bundles and connectors. Hope this helps

    My grandad bought a brand new super bird. He said it was the worst built car he ever owned. He sold it when I was six after owning it for only 2 years. He died in 1999 at 91 years of age. He regretted selling it right up to the day died.

    You didn't mention the single-pole ballast resistor, that must mean it has a points distributor, single or dual points? I always set the secondary set at 0.02 thousand more than the primary set, gives it a little more advance when you need it most.

    • @easygoing2479
      @easygoing2479 Před 3 lety

      Dual points, Prestolite. Chrysler said 30° on each set, total 42°. Chrysler didn't go to electronic ignition until '72 or '73, except on earlier taxi-cab applications - and the '68 SS Hemi Barracuda-Darts (again, Prestolite distributors, mechanical tach versions).
