Well we try and respect them, but sometimes the need for the smell of racing fuel, the sound of an open-headered Hemi, and the bass of the elephant motor overwhelm us. Can't beat that effect.

I looked for the Mr 5 and 50 bird for over 10 years.
Yes I lived in Maryland. I had a hemi orange six pack superbee that I used to take out every so often. A guy out if the blue came up to me and told me where the car was. It's a long story but I almost had that hemi bird bought as I stood in the garage with Ken talking about it
I still get chills thinking about it.
At the same time I had a 69 road runner with a superbird wing on it.
The wing was put on by creative industry as I had the doc for the install.
If you want to talk I could tell you a good story and the werst hemi bird.

Running leaded race gas in the motor I assume? Sounds good. Those old, high compression motors barely start/run on our new unleaded gas w/ethanol in it.
There is a 112oct unleaded fuel you can get, but that's more for turbo/low compression motors.
I got VP distributor and Sunoco Race Fuel Distribution near me(they supply Cecil dragway to Pocono and Atco and beyond). I've played w/different fuels and my friends w/high compression big cubic inch motors found old C16 works best in their cars. Or, they can't get cars started and run like crap when try to run an unleased 93oct for a short time like at a show. Don't wanna waste C16 idling , lol.

Only 135 Hemi Superbirds were ever factory produced and highly doubt that this is one of them. Chrysler sold an aero-package kit for a 1970 Roadrunner over-the-counter. If this is a real Plymouth Hemi Superbird, it should be restored to original stock condition correctly. A real Hemi Superbird is worth near $550,000 in factory stock condition. Jeff Dunham, the comedian, has one.

    • @JenningsWingCars
      @JenningsWingCars  Před 3 lety +7

The above comment is the kind that misleads real fans. To clarify the mistakes in the above comment:
First: This is an "R" code Superbird-that means a Hemi, documented with 2 build sheets, complete documented history with owner history and verification and title copy tracing to when sold by Chrysler and has been invited to display at the Chrysler nationals in July after numerous other displays. It has been certified as original by both of the 2 Chrysler nationally acknowledged experts, neither of whom are the commenter. It has been acknowledged by numerous Mopar and other publications (well over 50) going back for 50 years as an original Hemi Superbird.
Second: You quote 135 Hemi Superbirds being made. No one can verify that number, including the national aero warriors association or various Chrysler engineers, even though Google and others show it. No one knows, particularly Google. The NASCAR certified list of Superbirds shows 93. That list is available-I have a copy of it, and it can occasionally be purchased on Ebay. Perhaps it is correct, perhaps 135 is correct, or perhaps somewhere in between. Just because Google says it does not make it so.
Third: You state Chrysler sold an aero-package kit over the counter. I worked in Chrysler parts during the 1970's. We never sold such a kit, there was no such kit from Chrysler. Aftermarket developers such as Janak and others have since developed fiberglass kits, and some individuals have actually made a few 3rd party steel noses available from them directly.
Fourth-Yes Jeff Dunham owns a Hemi Superbird. So do I.
Fifth: Restore to original. Your opinion is of course your opinion but I choose to leave it as a time capsule of history of 1 of somewhere around 100+- Hemi Superbirds made, but still wearing the nostalgic paint job from that era.

Nope. Not every car needs to be a concourse restoration. This is 70s cool and it should stay that way.

My favorite color is blue. In about 1969-70, all the Memphis cop cars were B5 blue, maybe to match the blue Mickey Mouse lights, I dunno. They were Coronets, if I remember correctly. As a little kid, I loved that sh*t to death! AND they were Mopars! Having said all that, I think this paint job is the bee's knees. Not only because it reflects the period, but more importantly, because it looks so damn cool! 😃
