I was only eight in 1970 when muscle cars roamed the streets, but I remember those days fondly. My dad had a 68 Olds Cutlass W-31 Ram Rod and my best friends father had a 69 Road Runner 383 so it wasn't uncommon to "test" them against each other regularly... lol I really appreciate your passion to save these winged cars to show future generations how it was done back in the day. And I must admit I also admire your "not politically correct" point of view. This country needs more of this in these times. Again, thanks for doing what you do and please continue saving these old heaps and sharing the history.
Your mention of the Olds W-31 brought back some memories. In 1968 Car & Driver or Road & Track (or maybe both) had a road test of this car and it sounded like something really special. I jumped on my motorcycle and made tracks to the nearest Olds dealer in the next town. I didn't find any sign of one of them or even any literature in the store. I asked one of the sales guys if he had any info on the new W-31. He just gave me blank look and said he'd never heard of it!! When I got back home that afternoon I told my dad how disgusted I was with the dealership not knowing anything about their new models. He laughed and "reminded" me that not everyone was quite as obsessed with cars/trucks/motorcycles/airplanes and anything else that made noise and went fast. My dad's 97 years old and likes to razz me about that obsession but he still enjoyed driving some of those obsessions along the way... ;^)
My dad's 7o something pinto was pushed through my Uncles front room by a drunk driver..we go help next day and sells my dad a Buick stage 3 gs ,..unbelievable opening the hood..gets in a race on way home and brutalized a chevy 2 small block,..following as fast as I can , chevy 2 smoking on side of road as Buick cruises home after sitting for who knows?...badass..I saw them side by side, I was at 90...left me like standing still

When I was young I was into NASCAR. That was back when they bought a car from a dealer and turned it into a race car. The good ole days.
LOL in the aero car era they did not BUY a car from a dealer and turn it into a race car.......all chrysler nascar race cars were built by Nichels engineering or Petty Engineering, all Fords were built by Holman and Moody........by 1969 nascar mandated the front tube loop which means the whole front end of the car was cut off.
Being from the UK we have never seen these cars in the metal and I find it fascinating hearing you talk with such passion for them. What a sound with open headers.

Love the car and love the story! went to automotive school at Denver Automotive and Diesel in 1971 and got to ride in another students Red Superbird. He was constantly having the body guys fix the underside of the nose. PS , I am a little kid !!!
My how time goes by. We, the original founders of the Winged Warriors Club in Cerritos California never Imagined the road the Winged cars would take. Back then they were not a popular car, in fact they were quite inexpensive. It looks like the Winged cars have had the last laugh. Now they are sought out restored and cost a fortune. The president of our club had a silver Daytona with a leaded in front end. No gap or rubber at the nose .The nose did not look like an add on. It made a big difference in the beauty of the car. It flowed from the back to the front. I am well aware the emphasis is on originality but I Would sure like to see one flow like that again. What a legend they have become. ⁷
Thank you so much for making these videos. You have dug up so many memories of my adolescence trailering my 340 Duster with 456 gear to Beamblossom Indiana to run the 8th mile... I have done so many incredible things in my life but it all started with cars!

Nascar needs to bring back a version of these cars to the super speedways, maybe the attedence would improve. Thank You for sharing this historical car.
Nascar has WAAAAAY too many rules and regulations and they are cutting their own throats. It's the same reason GM pulled out in the late 60's and early 70's. Plus there were alot of crybabies about the Hemi winning all the time so Nascar banned it. The GM 427 was about the only engine around that would beat the Hemi on a racetrack but GM wasn't heavily involved in Nascar at the time.
I fell down a rabbit hole looking up these cars a couple weeks ago when I stumbled across your channel. I love your stories and give you major respect for your collection and commitment and sincerely thank you for sharing their history with us.

@@JenningsWingCars i live in cleves ohio and in the early 80s there was a guy by the name of Mark Pope who lived local and i will never forget looking under the hood for the first time looking down on that big block with 2 4 barrels with the coyote duster air cleaner. i believe it was a 1969 light blue with the big plymouth billboards on the quarters . wow it was amazing

I have seen your car at Welborn's and the aero meets . Back in 1972 I painted my 69 Charger 500 in the same color metal flake as your Bird is . Problem is I didn't have a garage to keep it in so it cracked . In the 80'S I stripped the metal flake because of major cracking and painted it the original color so I can appreciate your Bird . Carry on . !!!

I looked over this car at the Chrysler nationals few years back super cool car I'm glad that it's being left as found in terms of the paint etc..just sold my 70 super bee imsure I will never own another but I enjoyed my b body for 22 years and now am restoring it for a happy customer..very cool cars that drive extremely well.

I love the old Hemi,s . My dad had a 66 Hemi Plymouth when I was a kid. He drove it daily and raced it on weekends. Then he traded it in on a new 1969 440 4 speed Six Pack Super Bee. And did the same with it. His brother still has it. I have a factory built 1963 Plymouth Savoy Max Wedge I race. I will be at Beaver Springs Dragway Pa this weekend with mine and my friend is bringing his MW to. You should come its a Nostalgia race 10 and 11 .
Recently saw the purple Bird at a car meet in Corydon, IN. Had no idea of the story behind it, just remember checking it out nose to tail and thinking it was awesome. Nice to see it again here.
Man, this thing barely idles... love that sound. Hope they don't "restore" it, as it would alter the historical significance. Remember seeing winged cars at Carlisle as a teenager in the 90s. Definitely gems !

I still remember seeing an orange wing car when I was about 8 years old in '75 or so and wondering what in the world it was. In a small Oregon town of about 12K folks it really stood out. I can still remember where it was parked and the sense of awe I had looking at it.

Hi Ben, I never rule out any car shows. This Purple one is actually easy because it goes on the back of our special ramp truck. Haven't ever taken it to SC yet, but a big show always gets my interest. The car doesn't need any awards or prizes, it just needs to be seen and enjoyed. If I see your son I will let him start it! Usually 2-3 kids per show have enough real excitement about the car that I tell their parents to turn on the camera, let's get a picture.
I can't help but smile when I look at this bird. Thank you so much for not restoring this time capsule. What an amazing piece of history.

When I was discharged from the Marines in 1970 at Beaufort SC, the Plymouth dealer there had several Superbirds for $3500 each.

Hi Ben, I never rule out any car shows. This Purple one is actually easy because it goes on the back of our special ramp truck. Haven't ever taken it to SC yet, but a big show always gets my interest. The car doesn't need any awards or prizes, it just needs to be seen and enjoyed. If I see your son I will let him start it! Usually 2-3 kids per show have enough real excitement about the car that I tell their parents to turn on the camera, let's get a picture.
It's history, don't change a thing. Wish more old race cars were still racecars and not restored.
