I've been doing homemade soft plastics for some time now, so allow me to share some of my experience.
#1 Always take notes. Perfection in repetition requires you to learn from your mistakes (or improve your successes). Always start with the same amount of Plastisol. For me, i like working with 1 cup at a time. That way, you'll always know how long to cook it in your microwave (2:30 for my 1100w microwave), as well as how many drops of pigment to achieve the clarity you desire.
#2 Do Not pour plastisol into your injector until you are well versed in it. At ideal temperatures, the plastic will flow like milk. Once it cools down, it pours more like maple syrup. Even while wearing gloves, 350degree plastisol will burn you. It's the plastic used to print images on clothing, so it will seep into your clothes and stay there. It's better off to insert the nozzle into the plastisol and peel it off the injector before shooting another mold (it will solidify quicker than the plastisol in the mold).
And lastly, #3 you can cook the plastisol to 350 degrees BEFORE you add your color and glitter. I know it looks white in it's shipping container (or your Pyrex), but it will be clear when it's fully cooked. That way you can stop yourself before you go too far with Green Pumpkin. You can always add more, you can never add less (adding more plastisol to the cooked stuff won't work). I recommend taking your time and counting your drops. For me, 20 drops per 8 onces is plenty. I also use a 1/8 teaspoon for glitter, highlights, and pearl powder. 3/8 teaspoons is ideal for some of my recipes.
InEccess do you have a social media so I could possibly buy some
InEccess thanks for the tips bro I’m trying to get started making swimbaits for lingcod out in Cali. I really appreciate the knowledge.
@@OutdoorsCK thank you for your interest, but I do not. I only make mine as a hobby and to present the fish with a different look than what the local club anglers throw. It's a fun hobby and I suggest picking it up.
@@berserk9163 if you haven't started buying supplies yet, i would recommend Amazon for the Injectors. You'll want the 90ml or 120ml plastisol Injector. You can always squirt your unused plastisol back into the pyrex cup, but you can't refill the injector if you run out shooting a mold. Dead on Plastix has plastisol for specific applications (like Swimbaits). The molds will be the most expensive, but you'll only ever need to buy them once. For a quality mold for swimbaits, I'd shell out the money for a good one from Angling AI. My Do-It mold has a defection in the tail on one of my cavities, so buyer beware. Angling AI machines the molds as they are ordered, so they're not mass producted an sitting in stock waiting for someone to buy it.
InEccess thanks I’ll definitely check em out
I wanna see a video of you Fishing with these!!!! That would be a sick vid! I WANT TO SEE SOME SLAUNCHES!!!!
So great to see you catch fish on your own homemade bait! Making your own also builds confidence in your fishing/catching ratio! I don't know why, but it just happens! Thanks Ben for another great vid... Love watching and learning!! These are great!!
I've had other BPM baits czcams.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 before and they've pretty much always came through for me with the suskie smallies here and even with the walleye and pike, but I realized I didn't have an "in-between" pattern so this junebug one fills that role in no problem. it pairs up magnificently with a junebug Zoom Z-craw Jr that was trimmed a couple millimeters before the hook slots and rigged sideways for that fatter panfish side profile while still being a nice'n'compact presentation, a real power-finesse bait. Hell, it was so pretty I even bothered to fotosketch the pic into a watercolor painting image just to show you it's beauty! Even the blades are really well made, sure, they're not of Hildebrandt-level exquisiteness but look at the bead's reflection on the colorado blade, definitely well-made! The only "problem" spot it had was a bald spot in the skirt but it was nothing that I couldn't easily fix with a but of tuggin'n'shiftin' with the strands for a couple of seconds, besides that it is pretty minty!
These videos are definitely making me consider getting into this hobby. Seems like you learn some stuff along the way and save money in the long run. Keep em coming 👍🏻
So stoked on this video actually, I've wanted to do this for awhile but didn't research the stuff to get yet and you did it for us. Thanks Ben, you're than man

Yes sir. I'm waiting for my catalog can't wait.
Would love an entire series dedicated to DIY soft plastics. Just this video alone gave me the urge to buy a kit or two.
its the most addicting hobby ever! haha
I've been using their molds and such for a bit of time now. Absolutely love the do-it products
Rob Norton are the molds plastic or metal
@@racksnrods150 so the molds are metal the essential series is budget friendly and they are cast aluminum. No real issues if you want shiny lure just spray it with a pam before injecting
@@RobNorton I need some help I fish with mini jigs I wanna learn how to make ummm
I like worlds worst fishing. That channel shows some cool baits being made and lots of good info.
thanks for the compliment Jared.
I really want to try to make my own soft plastics. Looks fun!
Dude pouring is awesomeeee!! And your stuff is noice

Iowa boy here and love the fact you are using do-it molds I am waiting on my catalog to get here I know they have a website but to just get into it I think looking through a catalog is better plus it's like the old days but you buy it and then you can make it for ever
Can't wait to see you catch some slaunches with your homemade baits!
I liked the color of that flipping jig. Your going to catch some big launches with that one.

Amazing. I love it. Yes more.
I said it when you were at Do-It and I’ll say it again, that looks like an absolute blast! And I’m sure if you actually broke down the cost it’s so much cheaper in the long run.
Love this video. Would be cool if you did a giveaway of a starter kit or one of these kits!!!
Yes agreed
Including the microwave
@@michaelsigafoos2620 lol
Go buy your own
like you will ever win
Cool vid.... I need to get started in makeing my own.
Yes more!! Pretty cool
Great info. Ty.
I dig this man. I appreciate it.
Man I wish I had all that equipment to make my own baits. Great video!
Awesome you sold me. I’m putting in my order tomorrow morning. These vids are great. I’ll make my own then sell the rest. Can’t wait to see you paint some jigs . I have one question I do more pan fishing then anything. I haven’t really seen any. But I could have and most likely missed them.
Good stuff!
Super sick mane
Lets see more of the plastic making! And videos of you using your own baits!
This was really satisfying.
A pool test video comparison would be nice!
Great job 👍 love the vid great idea
I had always wondered if you could do this at home good to know
I wanna see a vid of you fishing with that slaunch bait! Great vid.
I’ve been making my own soft plastics now for a while. I highly recommend using dead on plastics swimbait plastisol, and their worm plastisol you can heat that shot to 500 degrees and it won’t burn, good quality plastic. Also heat your plastisol before adding colors more room for trial and error on getting the right color! Get the do it mold 7” lizard such a bad ass mold!
that dead on is awesome stuff!
Pretty dam cool. Nice job
Those look sweet can't wait to see how they look in the water
Awesome 👏 thanks
Love it!
Do a challenge video where you make the craziest colored bait you can and then catch a 3lber on it! Awesome vid!
Your vids are great man. see you out there.
This channel sets the hook pretty quick in an old LUNKER like me... 🤘🏼🇨🇦🤘🏼
Very cool!
I definitely want to see more this is cool
Awesome video
I asked for the bait making and you provided it. Sweet.
Can't wait to see the new baits tied on to the new MFer rods out on the new boat. Damn dude.... keep on rollin
Thats awesome. I gotta get me some molds!
Awesome go try them and more too
Shweet dude! I've been wanting to try this but I thought you had to have a vacuum chamber, guess not those baits look solid, thanks bro
Sick bro
Great VIDEO
Love the video. The your was super cool too
