No beef with Mr. Martin, it's just that there is a bit of investment here that is certainly more than pennies, so the title can be a little misleading.
$35 for the mold, $50 for the injector, $35 for the plastisol, $10 for the dye - you are looking at $130 before you make your first worm, roughly the price of 23 bags of senkos retail AND, I have used many knock off baits, but the salt inside the senkos makes it sink fast and gives it that signature flutter.
I know the video implies we have senko's lying around, but truth be told, my senko's are fished to death and lost at sea, I don't have anything lying around.
True perhaps once you make the initial investment then you can make a significant number of baits, however I'm not sure how well they will work compared to the genuine article.
Again, not trying to hate, this man is a legend and certainly not the first to suggest or try this, just pointing out the obvious in the title.

Your such a cool guy! I love your videos. I’ve found myself using a lot of your tips lately. My story is centred around my love for fishing, I was a very avid angler 2000-2015 during most of my adult life, which started as a kid. I had sustained an injury at work, debilitating and left me without the ability to walk, let alone fish. I was in a bad place and my outlet , my passion has suffered because of it. I had to wait a very long time to have my surgery because I was so young. I had broken my hip and needed replacement, no cartilage and extreme pain. 2015 to 2020. Fast forward to 2020 , I’ve had my surgery and changed my whole outlook, I’ve lost over 100lbs to become healthier. But what also is coming back to me is my love and passion for fishing! I’m able to fish and catch like I used too, I feel the enjoyment and I appreciate it more than ever. I could go on allday, but I wanted you to know and understand what fishing can really mean to some people. Thank you 🙏 Roland, I feel inspired when I watch your videos and the knowledge being passed on, your a great man.

A friend's Dad was making curly tail worms in his shed at night and weekends with two up dies, we cleaned the pots after school sometimes, thought one was cooled off and burned the heck out of three of my fingers when I was pulling the cold plastic and hit the hot inner core. Didn't know I could move that fast pulling that plastic off my fingers. These were the flat profile curl tail worms, folks used in the waterways and old Alligator Alley.

I wish ide got molds 15 years ago. O invested into molds for weights to make extra money which I did till I lost my business home and all after I got hurt real bad and coulnt run my business any more so me and my 7 year old daughter moved south become homeless for that summer but we fished had a lot fun on river in a pontoon boat then lived in bus then got a nice camper from my dad. But I was fishing one day for dinner. Someone stoped to see and wanted to fish was kid my daughter age and his mom. They fished over hr had a blast took pictures laughed and had a blast. When they left they gave my rods back told them no keep i had plenty take your son fishing more they never had fished. So she cried he cried me too. Lol but I looked at my daughter said i cant sell my fishing gear anymore im gonna give it to the kids. I already did tournament back home before we left and lost it all. Was a thank you to the town for riding with us 19 almost 20 years one month away from 20 years. So I spent few k got fishing gear and had 2 tournaments and gave almost all away. When I got south gave the rest away and started giving mine away. Then went out found cheaper gear got some donations now been 15 years. Even your son sent me hat and stuff to give away. I tryed to get signed hat from you but I no your busy. Scott was one the first fishermen after 2 others that gave hats and other stuff but that was lile 6 years ago. Wish I could have wrote and got more hats from fishermen and ladies not 1 sent a hat only 2 wrote back said they cant send hats to any one i was said we have girls we gave to alot and they would have loved a hat from lady fishermen. But I wish ide spent money for bait molds when I could work. Yes weights helped alot even more of ide got weight for bass fishing them weights get pricey when you give away. And my disibilty just couldn't buy alot. We would get lucky and yard sale have some but its almost over im sick cant walk. Im setting up a truck for disabeld person had a toy hauler I got few months ago also for a year trip state to state fishing and giving away the rest my fishing and camping gear to great kids all over the south. Spent my last 6k getting toy hauler and truck and storm hit last week rain wind then froze 4th Jan headed to dr. Looked at my camper went to it looked thru a crack that's not supost to be there and my roofs on the floor it took doen 16 ft of 24ft trailer. So bathrooms covered but guy that was gonna tear it doen and leave the bathroom covered well its about to fall also woods broke and got wet its half way Down. I had thought if I keep bathroom and kitchen covered added wall some roof back sealed it up good. Atlest it would keep dry i have now porch on the trailer can get my grill and table chairs. I sleep out side anyway camping I have a frame i use out side. It will be ok. But only if i get help to build the walls and roof back over the bathroom and kitchen. That never happen one who's gonna help someone disabled they want more money to fix when your disabled cause they no you cant. Well I cant and cant pay them that much either. So now im stuck at home in bed sick and cant go camping fishing or give fishing gear away to kids all over. So 15 years I got to give guess im blessed enought kids. But ill try to fix this trailer get sick trying cause o want it fixed some. Atlest if I get to sick and never can use maybe my daugter will. Shes having my first grand baby in about 1 week. Cant weight shes moving back in the baby daddy he left what a bum. But i raised my daughter alone from 7 months old till well 18 she left home after she grad 1 year early. Hey I was so proud. Grad the 11th grad. Not many kids take 2 years clases in 1 school year to grad but she did so she can start her life. Well she cane back 3 tines now 4 times so 21 years im still raising her alone. Lol. Ok woe alot said about molds. Lol. Wish I could make it to 60 or 70 and be fishing but 6 months ill be 50 and pray ill be fishing some. ere. God bless you bro and your fsmiky

If anyone wants the Senko recipe to make a stick from new plastisol....
    4oz medium plastisol
    2 tablespoons pickling salt (Walmart)
    1 tablespoon softener
You can also use soft Plastisol and leave out the softener.
Add salt before cooking the plastic and stir well
The large amount of salt is what makes them sink and wiggle.
The more salt the weaker the bait.
Powdered salt can be used but really clouds the color and transparency.
If using them Texas rigged with a weight, Wacky with a weighted jig, or shakeyhead/Neko, use only one teaspoon of salt for taste. They will be much more durable.

Yup, the most important thing is the recipe. You can't make Senkos if you don't know the recipe. All Senkos are not the same and none will ever triump over the original. That's why I'd rather buy Gary and YUMs don't work as well. You can't even call the other ones Senkos. You would have to use the term "Stickbait."

The Lureworks mold is 5.25" and a basic stick worm. Do-it has a mold that they licensed from GYCB that is the actual Senko in 4", 5", and 6" models. The important part is if you melt down old Senkos, remember to use all the same color, if you mix colors they will come out brown. Also some PPE would have been nice, 350 degree plastic will cause some serious 2nd degree burns and when the plastic splashes on you it will stick. You should use gloves and more importantly you need eye protection, you only get 1 set of eyes and 350 degree molten plastic splashing in your eyes can very easily cause blindness. Please use safety equipment if trying this.

Back in the 70's we used to pour our own worms. The only problem they were flat on one side. We bought our supplies at Gibsons department store, which went out of business about 40 years ago. After that no one made the stuff any more.

Excellent video Roland I have so many old plastics and I pick torn baits left behind by other anglers when out fishing, Will try the Lure Works Mold to recycle a lot of these used plastics.

If you put another clamp in the very middle of the mold you probably won’t get that flashing that you gotta peel off.. it can be a pain to set and pick off lol also maybe top off the sprue hole with just a little more plastisol- some times when it’s cooking it draws up so a little extra in the sprue will help it turn out better… thank you for the videos you make! I loved your spinner baits making video and the story you told about losing Mrs. Martin’s favorite pole lol glad for your sake you got it back lol hehehehe! You and Mrs. Martin are really awesome ppl! Role models to me…. I would love to fish with y’all lol I think y’all would be a blast to fish with 😁 plus I know we’d have an awesome time sharing fishing stories too! I got some good ones my self lol thank you again Mr. Martin for making these videos!!!!

I used to watch Roland back in the 80's and fished local tournaments in a club back then but what a time it is to be a fisherman for all you lucky people. If I were still fishing, I'd be doing this ASAP... Imagine all the color schemes you could come up with??? PS: The molds are very reasonable in price, I'd be purchasing more than one..

Hello Roland, I still have a copy of your book, "101 Bass Catching Secrets", from the late 70's early 80's. I remember you talking about Floyd Mabry and what an awesome crankbait fisherman he was, he loved Bomber crankbaits.

    • @reddog1534
      @reddog1534 Před 2 lety +1

I fished in the same place as Mabry on Toledo Bend; for several weeks he was bringing in stringers of 5-9lbs bass fishing in that place. We caught a few too but were at the tail end of it. Nice guy.

I’ve been doing this for a couple of months now. I have just about every color and glitter and sent that lure works offer. I have a single injector and dual injector and about 10 different molds and 10 gallons of plastisol now. I started with a senko, but it’s addicting.
