@markwred-kz1iq California has the largest economy of the 50 states. It also has the most people. Not even close to the best economy.
It sounds like W. Virginia would be good for retirees who aren't concerned about schools or work opportunities. Homes for retirees on a fixed income will cost less. I don't think I'd want to live in W.Virginia, but I've driven through it and the landscape is spectacular.
Not as bad as it sounds.....We have lost some key industries in Charleston that has hurt and have an older population, but it has a lot going for it too. Schools? Maybe an issue in the southern area, but most are very good. And this is a small state of about one million people. Not like hundreds of thousands leaving.

They get snow there. If I were going to leave where I am now I’d go where there is no snow. The county I live in grew 26% from 2010 to 2022. Alaska doesn’t have state taxes. That 5% is BS.

No one ever moved to RI. My hometown has been bankrupt since I was born I'm 50 now, no jobs, the older retired people foot the bill for the state, housing expensive, nothing there, hell we don't even have a movie theater lol.
