I live in one of these states and love it. We are almost totally off grid. Land and small holdings might be expensive but we have fantastic soil for growing food. We don’t t have to water gardens because we get plenty of rain. There are plenty of hunting spots for deer and lakes and ponds to fish. The snow adds vital nutrients to the land. We grass feed our livestock most of the year unlike many states that feed cattle on scrub brush. We can grow almost all our own produce except citrus. You won’t find too many small holdings anymore because no one wants to sell their piece of paradise.

I might be wrong, but I’m not sure it works like that. Many of these systems are highly dependent on electronics to function. In the event of an EMP, everything that is electronic will be inoperable. In the US, much of this infrastructure is completely unprotected. When an EMP happens, it will already be too late
