  • Upper Control Arms Stock Vs Aftermarket
    In this video we will go over and show the stock upper control arm vs the aftermarket upper control arm in an off road setting. It is safe to say we are extremely pleased with the performance from our Camburg upper control arms. You feel more in control of the vehicle as the suspension soaks up the road. Thank you for watching this video and don't forget to subscribe. We also talk about the 1000 subscriber give away we will do once this channel hits the 1k mark.

    One of the biggest gains with aftermarket control arm is more responsive movement of the arm, you have bushings that allow shaft/bushing type rotation vs. stock is twisting the rubber bushing in order to move, so I think that is where the "feel" comes in, the suspension is more responsive.

    The only difference really should be the added caster for the alignment with 0 camber. That can change the angle the rocks are hitting which will make it seem a little different, possibly even smoother but there isnt really a difference. All they do is guide the tire up and down, nothing special to really help soak up bumps. But they are tougher and look nicer and a good alignment can make a huge difference in ride quality. 👍

    • @johnterpack3940
      @johnterpack3940 Před 5 lety +1

      That's exactly what I was thinking through the video. There's nothing a UCA can do to improve ride quality. However, if the arm is stiffer than stock I could see it adding stability by not flexing as much and therefore keeping the alignment where it's supposed to be. But that would be a very minor difference.

I always been a F-150 Ford type of guy been said that i would like to have a smooth ride if i would install the bilstein 6150 rear and 6112 front with a bump stop Sumo or Timbren SES would that be some what a smooth ride.I do not want to take my truck 4X4 since i drop alot of money for this truck. thanks for your time.

      Hey George, I apologize for the delayed response as it was a busy weekend. I think you would enjoy the Bilstein 6112's and 5160's. When it comes to the bump stops, I would recommend running the SumoSprings if you plan on towing (Thats where I see the best results in ride quality). However, when I'm not towing, IMO, I feel the rear suspension runs a little stiff. They are supper easy to install and uninstall though. I hope this helps.

    I can see there is more stress on the OEM arm joint, when the truck has a lift kit. just wondering: does it help with the alignment and/or gas mileage?. I have a 2017 5.7 Tundra Crew Max 4X4 im with a 3”-2” lift kit, 20x10 fuel wheels and 33x12.5 mud tires and I’m getting anywhere from 10-12 mpg max on city driving. I live in Austin Tx.

  • @mark-kf3md
    @mark-kf3md Před 5 lety +1

    You don't say anything about these aftermarket control arms in terms of what they do differently than the stock arms.
    What's the difference?
    Unless they allow more camber or caster adjustment on a truck that's been lifted so you can get back to oem alignment specs or have a higher articulation ball joint then there will be no difference in the performance of the truck.
    One thing I noticed is that the aftermarket control arm has no boot on the ball joint. Take a look at the video, see that the oem has a boot on the ball joint and none on the aftermarket control arm. That is a very bad thing because dirt will get into the aftermarket ball joint and cause in the fail. The more off roading and dirt the faster it will fail.
    Take a look at the Specialty Products control arms.
    High articulation ball joint with fully sealed boots, zerk fittings so you can grease them and the arms have camber and caster adjustment so you can get proper alignment on raised trucks with larger tires.

    Once again great video. it's awesome that it showed the difference between the stock and aftermarket arms. The one thing I enjoyed in the video was watching everything flex, the strut Tower, the motor on the Factory mounts even the inner fender well. It's pretty cool to actually see things you normally wouldn't get to see. Sometimes I wonder if having some flexibility is better than welding everything up rigid? I know on older Jeeps for off-road trails most people prefer leaving them alone so they can flex the way they were intended to instead of welding up the frames or boxing them in so they're stiff.
    As far as the future, the one thing I would like to see you modified would be maybe some safety items instead of performance especially because it is your everyday vehicle. most everyday vehicles or in-between not dedicated off road vehicles sometimes lack on the safety items they should have for the trails. Such as fire extinguishers, first aid kit, a whip with flag for Desert trail riding, CB ham Marine some type of radio, at least a roll bar so for when the unexpected happens you don't get smashed most stock Vehicles do not have any rollover protection, I learned that the hard way after spending thousands on a 2000 Toyota Tundra prerunner with no cage and totaling it out in the desert near Baker California all I remember is spending three nights in a hotel recovering so I could travel home after being released from the hospital. staring at the world's largest thermometer LOL will make you think about all the stuff you should have done, overnight bag for all occupants in the vehicle sometimes you can't make it back to camp and have to spend the night on the trail. And always go with a buddy or have somebody else on the trail with you I know you've had brought this up before sorry for repeating it.
    As for trails as suggested in a post some green trees might be nice and maybe some rock crawling, might be a challenging for a full size rig. Anyhow great video thank you.

      h1Larry0us, they all work together, but when you lift an IFS vehicle the factory UCA can’t accommodate the new angles and makes it hard for your alignment to get set properly. This is a must add item when lifting an IFS vehicle.

      @Matt-te1bd Před 5 lety

      Do you have a lift? I would guess yes since you replaced UCA/LCAs. From what I have experienced, stiffness can be a number of factors.
      1) your toe angle is not meeting alignment specs, either its too high or too low.
      2) your caster has possibly increased which increases stiffness.

      Not true at all. Custom uca’s provide more suspension travel and more durability. More suspension travel equals better traction off road especially with a uniball. When a uniball begins to wear you get noise when a ball joint wears you need a tow truck.
