Any woodworker can make this box and make the special mechanism. It can also be adjusted to make it easy or more difficult.

Thank you, I always watched Chris Ramsay's puzzle channel and thought about making a puzzle box but had no clue where to start. It was really cool because you showed how to make a "spin" puzzle which is alway's his first move :)
All my respect to you, you remind me in my grandfather when he was in your age and i was 9, i am now 45, but with full passion to woodwork because of him.
You're one of my woodworking heroes :-)
Wish I had your skills
You're welcome!
thank you Jack for sharing your skills with us, we do really appreciate that and we hope to have you for many years to come sharing your knowledge. keep going, thank you once again and greetings from Costa Rica.
That's fiendishly clever, and very simple to solve once you know how. I really enjoyed this, thanks for sharing Jack.
I love it, Jack. I just might have to try this one out!
hi i came across your puzzle box while researching for my engineering assignment and i like the design and simplicity of the puzzle mechanism. I might not make this puzzle as i have a couple of other designs i am considering but it is probable that i would choose yours. thank you for the video and the build article on explaining how to make this puzzle box. i will let you know of the outcome if i decide to make your puzzle.
thank you for this interesting design.
Awesome work Jack! Thanks for sharing!
Das ist eine ganz, ganz, tolle Zauberkiste. Danke.
Pretty cool, Jack! I suspected you were making a centrifugal lock. I like it.
Another Masterpiece ! Very COOL indeed !
Nice one Jack! Wish that you had explained how the locking mechanism worked? Steve
Nice puzzle box Jack. My brother loves puzzles so this would be a great gift.
Spinning to open is new. Really thinking outside the box there. ;)
I enjoy your projects, they are always ingenious. Have a good time in Atlanta :).
great project Jack. see you at the show this weekend.
That's a neat mechanism!
Wow, that's a great gift idea, thanks for sharing this!
excelente idea,te felicito, tienes unas maquinas muy guapas,me gustan todos tus trabajos, sigue asi
Great stuff as always!
Pretty cool, Jack!
I was gonna make a boring coffee table but scratch that, this is my mission.
Really neat, Jack.
😹now I loved that trick thank you for sharing it with us all, this looks like something that could be used to make for a family member as part of their present wrapping 😹😹😹
Awesome!! Wow!!
Very cool!
Amazing!
Hi Jack really like your videos thanks for sharing your talents with us. Greetings from Sydney Australia.
Hi Jack, that was great..thanks for sharing.
great idea👍
That was Great! Thanks
nice vid, very enjoyable as always. thanks for sharing.
If memory serves me well, Tim Rowett showed a similar box on the Grand Illusion channel. I don't think he explained the mechanism though. Well, now I know how it works :) Thanks Jack, great video, as always,
EDIT : OK I was wrong. He did show the box mechanism. Very different from yours in fact.
And the dowel man hits again :D Love your work man :)
Very cool idea!!
Like it a lot.
Jack, is there a video on that sled. Real nice looking could it do box joints?
A really nice puzzle with a clever solution. Thank you for sharing this!
Could you also please point the dimensions of the box ?
My grandkids will love this
Nice! This gives me an idea. I'll be sure to send you a link if it develops into anything.
very cool thanks
Will I ever be as good as you... I dont think so.
It's all about experience. He has more experience than most people
jack that is pretty cool.
COOL!!!!!
i think this is a perfect video just if somebody will have all of those things in home. but great to make something like that. can you make something smaller?
thanks
Sometime I'd like for you to do a video of a 'shop tour'. It appears that it's really small, especially the outfeed side of the table saw - how do you make that work?
Have you ever seen the old puzzle/trick hook the rubber band cylinder?
It's just a circular cylinder with a 1/4 hole all the way through. Plugged at one end with a horseshoe like shape rubber band (oval side facing inside the cylinder)
Then a wooden cap with and almost long enough hook piston on the end with the lid end cut to about a 60 degree angle on two sides.
The Trick is to show your friends how you can hook the rubber band (but you are just squeezing the tapered lid cap which causes the lid to snap back into the cylinder) which looks as if you've hooked the rubber band.
But they don't realize you can physically hook it because the hook is not long enough to hook the band. Haha
My grandfather made one as a child and I had never been so aggravated not being able to do something until he finally told me when I was 12 the secret.
pretty cool and good video Jack! how did u come up/think of that?
That's pretty tricky! Love it Jack!
Very cleaver Jack! I always look forward to your videos and projects. Great Job again :^)
do the rods have to be brass? would stainless steel work?
loved the puzzle box. have aquired a broke down Baldwin grand piano and plan on making a book shelf for a family member. any tips you can give on disassembly. I know it's got some amazing wood inside there
Jack Houweling thanks Jack, thankfully the plate is already gone, now I just have to figure out how to "Strip" the inside
Jack Houweling thanks Jack.sure do appreciate the advice
great idea Jack
cool
The screws were a nice addition, I haven't seen that before.
It looks good though, simpler than the others.
Just how we like it.
Wow that was actually pretty cool thank you for sharing 😊
for some reason i wasn't notified that you uploaded a new video.. sometimes i wonder about youtube
Sometimes my subscriptions revert and need to be toggled, other times it is those supposed automated notifications that fail - seems that some of those processes skip randomly over some user accounts unlucky if your own. - I wonder too.
why would anyone give this a thumb down????
Are you going to take that box with you to the tavern when you feel like a pint? ;) lol
Thanks -- I'm not bragging, but I usually have one good idea a month... lol
We can buy this box?
This is a maker thing - get to work. < :-)
forgot to ask - was this your own design?
U have a sole?
If you put the box on one end the rods would slid down and then you would be able to open the box!. Yes or no
The trick is to get the rods to the outside. If you tilt the box on the left side the rod on the right side would still be in the locked position, and vice-versa for tilting it on the right side. Tilting it on the end would have no effect. The spinning action is what gets both rods to move to the outside, unlocked position.
I am ashleis son and my name is dawson. You need to tell us how it works before you build it
you didn't really demonstrate how the locking mechanism works
Man, I hate to say it... but every time I watch one of your videos I see at least one instance of a close call with safety. You have to be careful, wood jumping on the table saw isn't good.
Needs to push his rip cuts through and beyond the blade - always control the piece between the blade and the fence, all the way beyond the blade.
