- Yowah boulder opal has finally made it to the channel thanks to Andrea and Paul Cochrane over at Saltbush Australian Opals.
Those in the facebook group would have seen them as they are always helping answer peoples questions. They are also big into boulder opal and buy in bulk for their own work and pass the savings on to people that they sell surplus material to. They buy direct from a select few miners and if you are looking for something in particular they can go on the hunt for you. They also make jewellery and the pieces are VERY nice!

I was dazzled at 4:40. 😁
I am so keen for that one.
Freeform pendant. Would be a great sell!
I LOVE the Yowah bolder opals. And like you said, even on their own with all the little patterns running around the rock is Natures art work! I will take opals over diamonds every day and twice on Sunday!🤣
I own approximately 0 diamonds and thousands of opals so i'm 100% with you on that. 👌
The Yowah stuff is really interesting.. I'm sure it's not for everyone, but if you are enthused about opal long enough, your arrival and awe of Yowah is almost guaranteed 👍it makes perfect specimens to keep too but am interested to see what you do with them!
I know there are some that hate the stuff but I love it. Just so unique compared to anything else. There will be some shaping and polishing to come.
They all look incredible!
All look like a lot of fun at the very least.
very nice, loads ov fun there Roy 👍🎩🇬🇧
Weeks worth I reckon. I'll be getting on to the first one this weekend I reckon.
@@RoysRocks nice 1 crack on, time waits no 1 👍👍🎩🇬🇧
What an interesting material!
Yep. Some of the most interesting stones I have ever seen have been Yowah. Very underrated material.
All the potential there. I have tons of questions of what size and how many but eventually we will get to see anyway. Ty for the Vid Roy.
You'll get a good look at them over time thats for sure.
Quite good to look at 🥰🥰🥰🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩
Yeah I think the main one just needs a trim to shape. I wouldn't want to change the face of it.
Ah. My fix for the day! That small one is a beauty. Can't wait for you to get into them.
So many interesting ones in this batch. I look forward to diving into a few.
Good my fiend 🙏🤗🤗
I hope they all turn out well.
Awesome Roy, big jump to 1500+. I love Yowah opal, I’m going to look them up, good to see you even get distracted by shiny cards, not just opal....
Haha. Anything with a flash really.
@3;08 Nice.
A few nice ones in this one. I should have done a viewer vote to help me decide. Now the pressure is on me. 😂
@@RoysRocksA little bit of pressure is good for the soul haha
Love ya Roy
❤️
Really looking forward to what you do with it! I cut a Yowah nut too close from the back and it fell apart, it's nothing like other opals. Beautiful though.
You are right about that. Completely different ball game. The joy of opal.
Finally! Been excited and waiting for more
More boulder cutting on the way.
so lovely 😍 is the patter actually petrified wood?
Not 100% sure but I dont think so as they are commonly spherical or ellipsoidal to some extent. They are more like nodules. They can show rings though so I see the similarity to wood.
Will you please do some videos on how you cut the yowah nuts? Thanks in advance!
As in the slice part? People rarely sell them whole but I'll try to organise it.
@@RoysRocks Yes, the one you said is your favorite AND the one that is shaped kinda like an orange slice.
That would sell well on eBay... It's a nice gift 😜
I need to check out ebay. Been almost a year since I looked on there.
@@RoysRocks if you're too busy tell me what your looking for at what price I'll send some listings lol 🙂
@@LaurentiusTriarius I'm more just interested in the current state of the ebay/opal market. I'll check it out in a livestream at some point soon.
@@RoysRocks one thing for sure since the show's on discovery channel I've seen prices hike 😄
@@LaurentiusTriarius Outback Opal Hunters has raised the profile of opal around the world quite a bit that is for sure.
Hey Roy still loving your videos if you could please let me know about the sealing of the yowah I have a beautiful piece that is plagued with pits and want it to look it's best, Lastly does filling those pits hurt value to much. I don't plan on selling this piece, but maybe way in the future?
Trends and attitudes can change towards treatments but in general the value will be dramatically effected with any treatment but sometimes the initial value is not great enough to care. A really bad piece untreated can end up looking pretty good with some touch ups so it is what it is.
The processes will for sure be covered in the near future. There are one or two that I havent even tried myself yet.
@@RoysRocks I look forward to the processes. I have tried looking online but most treatments revolve around cracks and not filling pits in boulder. Keep up the videos man. I'm learning tons
How much that cost if I was interested?
Not sure best way to find out is to make contact with Andrea and Paul.
@@RoysRocks thanks.
Did already and even made a plug for RR! They still scare me (the rocks that is). I'm still trying to figure out coober pety rough.
@@mattmarshall728 Coober Pedy rough is nice material and probably the most straightforward of the bunch (excluding andamooka matrix) so I'm sure you'll get it sorted in no time.
