    This is an awesome video for those who only have access to dremel. Thanks Roy 😀

      No worries. It is asked about all the time so I thought I should dedicate a video to it.

      No worries. The last time I covered this topic it was just fixing an already attempted stone so this time I went right back to the start.

    After years of doing it by hand with sandpaper it's so nice using a dremel now. Louder but a lot faster XD

      @RoysRocks  Před měsícem

      Haha I feel ya there. I won't be making the hand and sandpaper method video any time soon. Hand hurts just remembering those days.

      @RoysRocks , that's exactly what I was hoping for. I'm curious to see how you treat it and then set it. I never get tired of seeing the colours coming out in the Matrix.

    Great demonstration. It looks really nice. I hope it treats well. There is a lot of color in the stone. I hope you post it after it has been treated. I’d like to see it as a finished stone as well.

      Hopefully. Should have some decent colour in it. Was actually a bit more colourful than I expected.

    Thanks Roy, really informative. I've just bought some seam opal and am tossing up whether to carve the pieces freeform, or take them to my Lapidary club and use their cabbing equipment. I'll know more once they arrive. There are some very experienced opal specialists at the club that I can ask too. Your video has demystified one option for me. Cheers

    • @RoysRocks
      @RoysRocks  Před měsícem +1

      Yeah super hard to decide until you get them in your hands.
      You can also cheat a tad and do both with a quick snoop with the dremel then take it to the wheels if the bars are thick and straight.

    Another great video sir. Is it better to have a high dome or is the height more dependent on the individual stone you are cutting? Every stone is different.

    • @RoysRocks
      @RoysRocks  Před měsícem

      For opal it really depends on the pattern and colour play.
      For example, if there is a really thick playful bar a higher dome can really add value.
      My fave pattern however is the jigsaw pattern and I prefer that with a low dome or the puzzle pieces get shaped strangely.

    Great video as I was wondering about this very topic before I finally get ready to grab some opal and practice. I missed what grit you started with before shifting to the 600. What was it?
    Thanks.

    • @RoysRocks
      @RoysRocks  Před měsícem

      80 grit for all the major cuts.

  • @TIG2MAN0

    Does it work to have to Dremel tool attached to table in a way to make it stationary, then use dop stick to use Dremel tool like cabbing wheel?

    • @RoysRocks
      @RoysRocks  Před měsícem

      You can but it is like using a REALLY small wheel so the contact between stone and bur is very different, also harder to keep wet.
