  • The life, death and impact of Pakistan’s working-class icon Qandeel Baloch, killed in 2016 after becoming a social media celebrity.
Subscribe to The Guardian on CZcams ► is.gd/subscribeguardian
This film tells Qandeel’s story through her own videos and media appearances. A young, fearless woman who collided with Pakistan’s mainstream media, Qandeel exposed the religious right and challenged middle-class morality. From her life before stardom in a rural village to her early days in entertainment as a model and actor, Qandeel gained attention by making provocative web videos. We get to know Qandeel through her family, admirers and those she interacted with and inspired. The film also analyses her life through the lens of class and power politics and connects it to women’s continuing struggle for self-expression in Pakistan.

"Her death is an example that people can't get away with this behaviour" and to me it looked like an open threat to everyone who called people like him on his hypocrisy that he is protected by religion in this state. He is protected because he is a man of religion and despite having proof of his behaviour on camera.. he's still protected and.. safe.

How tragic. I'm Indian and respect the Pakistani culture. Qandeel didn't harm anyone -she lived her life the way she wanted and she did not deserve this. This just exposes the hypocrisy of the religious clergy and the male species and it's the same in India and Pakistan. The men don't have to watch cheap women - live and let live. Who gave the clergy the right to judge anyone and who gave anyone the right to kill someone who lived life the way they wanted?. Terrorism and murder in the name of religion or correcting someone's behaviour in the name of religion is the worst crime. If you object turn your tele off and watch these exhibitions of cheap behaviour - you have a choice.

She was as water being poured into a burning room, a strong force ripping off the layers which were traumatically suffocating, she was a beacon of the rebellion against the oppressors of the human nature. She was a wild youth's purest reaction to the unfair and irrational deliberations of a bigoted, regressive, chauvinistic, and fascist bunch of oppressors. I loved every minute of her on the social media, she understood the fucked up South Asian mentality and she satirically ridiculed it, and criticized it and showed us how sick, hypocritical and disgusting our society is and how unjustifiable and ridiculous or traditions and customs are. Love you Qandeel, I'll never forget you and I'll talk about you to as many people as I can.

I'm very moved everytime I watch a video about Qandeel. There's not enough words to describe such a beautiful, free flowing soul. As Qandeel. She was an amazing woman who tried to make a change in a society who treats women as 2nd class citizens. Women in Pakistan have no rights really. Qandeel tried to demonstrate that women have a mind and she showed her courageous efforts thru her vlogs. She wasn't trying to be a sex idol what she really was doing was trying to break barriers of oppression for women and unfortunately lost her life at the hands of her deranged brother. Too bad people in Pakistan have not graduated to levels of present times of the modern world. Regardless of how oppressed that society tries to make women there will always be an open window for these women to look out from. It's just too bad Qandeel had to loose her life. She was brave a wonder women customs and governments may try to control women but never their minds. May the spirit of Qandeel live forever in all of us, Ameen.

They don't want to educate people because they are scared that people will start talking for their rights. I mean lack of education is the reason corruption and money laundering went on for so long. It took Imran Khan 22 years to educate his nation about two words- corruption and money laundering. And some Pakistanis still think there is nothing wrong with corruption and money laundering.
Education means people not allowing the police to buy free food or hit innocent people and it means employees speaking up for their rights.
My Pakistani boyfriend is forced to work 7 days a week in a bakery.
Corruption happens everywhere. My aunty was once the only teacher in her school with 5 classes to teach as in students from year 1 to Year 5. This is because even though authorities are given money to hire teachers, they only hire one teacher and keep the rest of the money to themselves.

They think woman as a sex-toy, baby birth machine, 24/7 unpaid maid who will do every house work ( doing households work is not the problem but the sad thing is they never like to give any compliments or any type of love, respect nothing at all)... not only the men's thinking is like that, but also the women's thinking is same. now i regret about my marriage life, but i have no other choice without it. Everyone is not brave or lucky who can come out from this pain... At last only i want to say plz give respect, love to everyone, each and every people have right to get love and respect... Think twice before taking any decision for your own life, or for other people...
