What a great idea!! I've made regular mochi but never thought of wrapping it around fruit! When I made Sakura Mochi I had dried some whole cherries in the oven for another recipe, and decided to fill the Sakura Mochi with two whole dried cherries with a whole almond in each instead of the traditional red bean paste. They were yummy, and I loved the variety of textures :)

Try making the liquid with pandan to flavor the mochi...or maybe matcha flavor. I was thinking it could use some of that creamy coconut sauce that we put on some of our desserts and sprinkle on the toasted sesame, crushed peanuts, sugar, and salt (used in the Vietnamese xoi dip).

These look very similar to traditional Japanese confections called Daifukus. The base form of a Daifuku is sweet red bean paste wrapped in mochi. But there are many kinds, and some have fruit inside of it. The strawberry Daifuku is definitely the most common and most popular out of all the fruit Daifukus. It's just like what you did but with sweet red bean paste in between the mochi and strawberry. Other fruits that I've seen used are clementines (whole, skin peeled), large green/purple grapes, kiwi (half, skin peeled), cubed pineapple and cubed melon. For all the other fruits besides strawberry, sweet white bean paste is typically used instead of the red. Sweet red and white bean paste can most likely be found at Asian grocery stores, but they can be made from adzuki beans and navy beans. I hope you give it a try ☺️
It's so easy making mochi dough at home, I should really try to do it. I wonder if coconut mochi would be good?
