Glad to see you finally reviewing our mod. As well as giving it that frank and honest style I watch you for.
For what it's worth, I do enjoy your mod reviews because it certainly is nice to see the opinion of someone who is skilled at the game but doesn't typically play mods. So you can get a Keen Eye for the differences and how they Impact gameplay better than a lot of channels that I've seen.
Just a couple points I would mention. One major thing that seems like you left out was the area of recruitment system that we put in.
Local units, generally not very strong but occasionally there are exceptions are available from the main Town structure everywhere on the map. These units are available to all factions and pull from typically the most abundant population class from newly conquered settlements.
As for the units. We have about 2300 custom units in the game, all of them do use custom textures and in some cases models. There is not a single vanilla unit or Texture on the models intentionally.
Edit: as others have mentioned and I forgot to mention, you did neglect to mention the supply and attrition script. Each region has its own Supply value the interacts with armies as well as buildings. If you run out of supply for the region is incapable of supporting the number of troops in that region you will start taking attrition.
And as mentioned. You can play whatever campaign difficulty you want, but the mod is very heavily balance around vanilla. Battle difficulty especially will completely break the mod if you are not playing on normal. This is because battles are determined by morale not casualties exclusively.
Ivan
Hey man, I have a modified the Armenian t4 units and I'm wondering if Del team would consider adding it to the next Del patch. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1602305247
@Association of Free People always glad to hear someone is enjoying what we've done.
Shout out to your team, you people are amaizing. As said above, youe made the game worth to play (and most importantly, replay) to me.
You made every Factions feeling a bit unique, and made campaign strategy (planning of conquest) something interesting, and not a mindless snowballing.
A great shoutout to you, i don't think i will ever be able to play vanilla again :D
@@shorebreakers96 Thank you, I'll pass it along to the team.
Great Mod you did. I stopped Vainilla after just 20h of played. When i found your mod like one month ago that 20h have converted in 156h.
Legend, I value your opinion, and enjoy your reviews. It's given me new mods to try out and I really appreciate the effort you put into it.
No keep doing them I love them.
Like you kept attacking G. Britain in Africa?
This one doesn't listen, perhaps a cut off leg would.
J D tfw you actually enjoy a creators content
Guys wtf its been like a year come on. Like obviously i unsubbed like awhile ago when he sold out. Like wtf? Why in the would would you threaten to cut off some random internet weebs legs off just cause he made a shitty comment like a year ago? Why? If you want a more elegant way of why i meant to say is this:
"Hi LegendofTotalWar, big fan love your content. Ive watch alot of your playthroughs especially your venice one on mtw and have since replicated your strats with great success. I also love modding. In fact rome total war was the first game i ever modded, and taught some basics of file management. I really like your mod reviews and enjoy them alot. Its sad that you dont the views because each one of your reviews are pretty straight foreword and well played. Im probably not the only fan of your mod reviews, so on behalf of not only myself but other fans like that, please continue the mod series. Thanks for the content, have a wonderful day".
Are you happy now?
Third Age : Divide and Conquer ? :3
Nixxiom?
I enjoy your mod reviews, your style is very engaging and informative, please don't stop making mod reviews.
Ethan Liehr we already know he is the best fatty
While you're not an expert on mods, I don't think you have to be for this. Your knowledge of the base game is more than enough to say "Hey, this is what the mod changes and what I think about the changes."
I really appreciate how LegendofTotalWar conquered all of the former territories of the Roman Empire to form its historical borders. Seems like the reign of Hadrian, by the look of it.
Your videos would be way easier to recognise if your Thumbnails would include some sort of "legend" text or logo. I often miss your videos because I tend to only look at the thumbnail in my sub feed.
I would love that too A legend in thumbnail would help a lot.
I agree.
Keep this man at the top. Gotta play that thumbnail game
Because God forbid you'd actually have to read a small description of something. The name of the channel is literary right underneath.
@@delamoxica People are lazy by nature and there a hundred videos in the feed. Dont play dumb...
You are doing a great job with these mod reviews, I personally watch them all and will keep watching them. You have a unique view when it comes to playing these mods, every other youtuber just goes on and on about how great and new and different they. You truly go deep into them and let viewer know what they can actually expect from these mods and I thank you for helping me not to waste my time with some and to help me dive deep into some of them. Keep up the great work.
I personally enjoyed all your mod reviews so far very much. :)
My I propose Hyrule:Total War as possible next mod to review?
Anonymus Sicarius I think the creators have moved away from Total War onto another game engine.
@@MRFlackAttack1 UndyingNephalim may have moved towards the 0 A.D. engine, that is true, but netherless his mod for Med II is still download- and playable, and Mr. Nygren is working on a continuation submod. So proposing it is fine. On the other hand, if Legend says that this is a reason not to do the review it is also fine.
Dont stop, we enjoy them. what ever you put out we will support.
I know you moved on, but you really did a great job covering mods. It doesn't matter if you're not aware of all the intricate details and mechanics, you did an excellent job covering the pros and cons of each mod.
I hope you'd cover some others from time to time. Cheers!
As of battle:
The essence of DEI battles if that they are won via moral, not slaughter. This is how historical battles work. That is why light horses are so important: they run down routers and wipe the enemy army.
In DEI it's very important that your unit doesn't get flanked, not even clipped. The morale and actual damage is much harsher than in front to front combat.
DEI unit models are massively changed. They details are impressive and historically accurate. Nothing to do with shitty cartooney vanilla units. A shame that some people don't appreciate this.
I disagree on the statement that since Rome II is so stat based units won't break. That is not true in DEI, except for really elite units which seem to bug out in the battle when they are the last ones alive. In DEI you can actually use tactics effectively and beat a quality army with trash if you are smart about it. In vanilla an elite unit will maw on multiple lower quality units even if they are surrounded.
Shields are much more effective against missiles than in vanilla. In DEI if you shoot at the front or left side of a shielded unit you're wasting ammo for the most part. However if you shoot them on their backs or right side, especially if it's javelins, the damage is devastating.
Maximum unit width was considerably reduced. This is a big deal that was not mentioned either. This is more historically accurate and prevents stupid spaghetti armies.
Line of vision is massively reduced to encourage scouting and to prevent (to some degree) the enemy from camping. This wasn't mentioned.
It's true that abilities are pretty meh. I only use inspire to boost their combat capabilities and rally banners or whatever if their morale is low.
"Nothing to do with shitty cartooney vanilla units. A shame that some people don't appreciate this."
there is and never was anything shitty looking or cartoony about the vanilla units. Ironic that it in the very same post you speak about appreciation. The unit quality in total war games was always, for the most part, absolutely top notch, and Rome II is definitely not exception. They use "cartoony" color schemes for better unit recognition and cohesion, but I've also found that the aesthetic simplicity and cleanness of units in Rome II and Medieval II especially - will always have something that mods like DeI and for example Stainless Steel never will. Of course vice versa too. No one ever complained that the units in Rome II looked crap. They didn't.
@clark cimmerian what the actual fuck no it wasnt other wise it would probably be a matter of numbers and not strategy if you fight in the front and get flanked you are fucked and want to get the fuck outta there other wise you would get slaughter thats where morale comes into play if you have to ability to resist flanking attack then the moral of your troop will be less afflicted thus be able to stand their ground wich isnt always a good strategy and generals wanted to keep their army intact from both side if defeat is obvious the army will flee to avoid slaghter and fight an other day
Morale and ancient warfare 101 right there my dude
@clark cimmerian most casualties in ancient history happened during when the lines broke and the army routed, not during the actual combat. its what the mod aims to emulate. once morale is broken you kill the routing troops before they can rally (and they rally a lot more in the mod). cavalry charges from the back can make the best units route
@clark cimmerian
Yep, Cannae was decided by morale as well. The Roman army was sucked into the trap, surrounded. They broke, mass routed and couldn't escape so most of them ended up dead. If they had fought in good order to the last man, they probably would have won that battle as they were numerically superior and definitely not worse trained/equipped.
@clark cimmerian i hate people like u
having such big balls and demanding that u are in the right even if the facts say the opposite
u would be the perfect trump supporter/supporter of the populistic parties who scream "fake news" all the time
fuck off m8
Ave Legend!
I'm a fellow Aussie who has floated in and out of your vids consistently for the last 5 - 6 years, and have played TW games from Medival 1 times. I really enjoy your vids not only for the tips but to unwind to.
So far I find I still play the Historic TW games more than the Fantasy TW, with Rome 2 having the most hours by far, on condition that DeI is activated.
I think your review reflects your play style and preference. I have always noticed that you enjoy to monitor your provinces, preference farming, economy and military building in strategic provinces. Monitor the enemy and make it hurt them as much as possible when they take a province, sometimes with the burn and retreat tactic. Your method is a quick and effective style of play, one that I have learnt plenty from. And I think you may have overlooked some of the battle features as I think you use the autoresolve a lot more than I do.
I agree with you that this mod is not for everyone as it is a slower mod to play through, but want people to know that there are stacks of submods which can really speed up the game.
I think you may have overlooked some of the best features of DeI. Particularly that it is a most historically and realistic mod. This includes the population pool (which you mentioned), the military reforms (which you mentioned), supply system and naval reforms. But also the historic facts that it includes year by year, and seasonal events. Which really helps emerse the player into the era. And the way a general can develop new traits depending on how they are used.
On the battlefield, the unit overworks are so detailed, that they make my computer work a lot harder and hotter, and I actually need to install a submod which decreases the variation from each single soldier in a unit. The units have more controls and commands, from disciplined stance to brace for cavalry, the pike formation and phalanx you mentioned.
The emphasis then falls more onto unit placement and strategy, by trying to find the right angles, more so than vanilla. E.g. The stats for pikemen make them immensely more susceptible to flanks than in vanilla.
Archers are still important, and can accumulate a huge amount of kills, they need to be used differently. Used mostly once they have angle on an enemy unit or on flanking units, and cav.
I think siege weaponry need special mention, as I often get most kills with scorpions.
But a key feature of the factions is that the units compliment the play styles that suit them on the battle field.
The Macedonians will win the slow duke with their pikes in a line. But the Romans will win if the straight line of enemy pikes is disrupted.
I think the DeI team have also made it so the General does play a more important role in maintaining an army moral.
What I have mentioned above is what adds to what I love about the mod. I play the game slowly, never feeling rushed or to finish quickly, enjoying the huge number of small details and the tactically cinematic nature of the battles. I think you may not experience this as your play style is a much faster (and more effective) one.
As for your reviews of mods. I actually think they have been great. Fair enough if you can't do them to retain your sanity. But if you are still keen on the idea of the videos series, perhaps reduce the frequency of mod reviews to one every 1.5 - 2 months so you don't burn out.
If possible, would love to see a Third Age review.
Thanks Legend for all the vids.
Irrumator praetor vale. Which is latin for 'see ya fucker'.
Without you I never would have gotten into Call of Warhammer Beginning of the End Times. Now that I have and I have looked at your review again, you did a great job, and the more reviews you make the more people learn about mods they would never have tried or even known about before. I hope you continue them.
I love your mod reviews because you’re the most raw and real at what you’re doing and that I can really appreciate
You have easily become one of my favorite total war youtubers, I'm enjoying all of your mod reviews
But would love to see third age total war, divide and conquer especially
Legend, we need your input on mods with these reviews. As someone who is not typically a mod player, you're insight as a fellow vanilla player is insightful, funny and indispensable. Please Keep it up!
PS: Your review of EB2 was spit on btw. Glad you saved me slogging through it for longer.
I've been loving all your mod reviews so far! If your enjoying making these mod reviews then take a little break, clear your head of the stress and get back in with a clean slate! :)
This is an enjoyable series on your channel so would love you to continue, though understand that it might be too time consuming. If you carry on would be great to see a Roma Surrectum 2 review. tc.
Please keep making your videos man don’t stop top fives and mod reviews as a fan of you I really like them and look forward to the next one...
Keep up the mod reviews legend, I really enjoy them.
I think there is nobody more qualified than you doing this mod review. You put a lot more effort into this than most people who do reviews. I would actually look at all your reviews even if there are on other strategy games.
Glorious, also please continue to do these reviews occasionally
I enjoy the mod reviews, the sydcs and the top 5 vids. It diversifies your channel and keeps it interesting.
I also like seeing how the modding community can be creative and change elements of the game.
If you're not confident with them/dont enjoy them, maybe don't force yourself to find a mod to review but just be on the lookout for ones that interest you specifically.
I absolutely love your mod reviews please keep doing them
I disagree. I'm disgusted with Rome 2 and find it unplayable, but Divide et Impera is still enjoyable for me.
Same for me. Base Rome 2 is unplayable for me, but this mod makes it pretty good.
i enjoy rome 2 with few mods without Divide at Impera
The ugly ass unitpicture alone triggers me to no end in the base game
I find it the opposite.
DeI is too slow and tedious imo, and only works to make the game somewhat more challenging depending on what difficulty you play.
I'd rather play vanilla, as it doesn't take forever to do turns, and things just seem a lot more smoother.
@@k_god7207 DEI is faster if you compare ancient Empires to it
I´m really enjoying your mod reviews, they are very informative and well done
What I liked the most about DEI was the meticulous EB/RTR-style attention to historical detail when it comes to the units.
That´s also why archers are nerfed - they generally weren´t all that deadly or decisive.
archers aren't decisive? the Parthians would like a word with you
@@hopedream11 Not at all. I was talking about foot archers, they generally couldn´t keep up the sustained shooting necessary for inflicting serious damage like horse archers could unless field fortifactions were involved (see the English during the 100 Years War or the Hussites).
Besides, horse archers were only one part of the Parthian army at Carrhae, and not the one that delivered the decisive blow.
You should keep doing them much mot as much do it every now and then but divide et imperia is a good mod but needs some work
While I personally enjoy your mod reviews and would love for you to continue doing them, I also understand if you decide to stop creating them because mods aren't for everyone.
Keep going! You are doing great and the more you review the better you will get at it!
Keep doing them. You keep it concise and straight to the point and you really don't just cherry pick aspects of these mods you let us know what we're in for should we (the viewers) choose to download it
Dude your mod reviews are great. They’re insightful, they’re fun to watch, and they’re interesting. If you don’t want to do them anymore then that’s cool, it’s your channel. But I’ll miss them if they go and a lot of others will too
What is added by Divide et Impera? Historical accuracy and realism...
historical accuracy and realism is just a bonus, what it actually does is make rome 2 a tad playable.
Explain the historical accuracy to me sir ? If u can ...
@@rollon5865 well they certainly try.
@@rollon5865
Well, its not very historically accurate for one reason, grand campaign takes place before 300 BCE, but playing as Rome in Del, since its 4 turns per year I think, you get Marian reforms in like 200 BCE, which is very inaccurate. But of course this is not their fault, it is a limitation of the base game. The actual Del timeline is from around Punic wars 160BCE to Mithridatic Wars around 60-70 BCE. And for that timeline, it is very accurate, the unit descriptions, the unit rosters and attention to detail.
Narekaci Shahbazyan they had to do that because they didn’t want a campaign that went on forever science they added 4 turns per year in dei
I've been watching your videos for nearing a year now, and I have to say I was finding it harder and harder to sit down and watch the longer 1-2 hour videos, or 3 hour stream vods. I've been loving the shorter content you've been putting out though, and honestly I don't care what it is. Mod review, top 5, opinions on the game, looking at three kingdoms, I watch it all. You do whatever you're comfortable with Legend, and I'll be here sniping the shorter uploads when I see them pop into my feed + the occasional longer vid thrown in when my attention span is feeling up to the task.
Legend, you're probably the single most trusted source for me when it comes to TW mods - you're an expert on the base games so I can get a good comparison between the vanilla and the mod!
keep doing mod reviews, they're great!
I enjoy the Mod reviews you seem pretty impartial for the most part and its nice seeing someone else's perspective
When I'm looking at a mod, I care about two things: a) Is it fun. b) Is it well polished and fits well with vanilla TW. You cover those points and thus, I love your reviews.
Though it has to be said, you could be reviewing the snacks you eat while playing and I'd still watch it...
Hey first time I ever comment on one of your videos but I've been watching them for a while! I like the mod reviews, it made me discover SS 6.4 and your opinion is usually on point, but if you don't think it's worth the time it takes to produce the content and the views it gets, you know better! Keep up with the good work, I've learnt from watching you play and you're truly a legend! :D
I do understand your mod reviews, especially the ones of medieval 2.
I enjoy your mod reviews. I've watched all of them.
Keep em coming! I’d love to see a mod review of Darth Mod
You are THE best person to review a mod!
What's your opinion on the campaign supply system?
Great video Legend! Personally I love these mod reviews, but, if I am not mistaken, you said you don't enjoy doing them. In this case, I think it's up to you to decide, as you shouldn't feel forced to record videos even though you don't want to.
When it comes to DEI, I love it. I tried to go back to vanilla to play online with my cousin but it just didn't feel right. However, I actually thought that pikes were stronger in vanilla: if placed well, they seemed to take less casualties. I remember defeating an entire army with with a couple of pikes blocking the streets. Anyway, keep up the good work!
Please keep doing mod reviews it's very useful
I think these are great man. I thoroughly enjoy all of them because I never really modded any of my games before so it gives me a great chance to find good mods and avoid bad ones. I've already got extra time out of medieval because of your reviews
Honestly the people watching you do so because they like your style and take on things. That extends to mod reviews so I'd say keep doing it
Please review SFO Grimhammer 2! (The Mod Previously Known As Steel Faith Overhaul)
your reviews of total war mods say more about the mods than any other reviewer because you know the base game so well. good reviews, keep up the good work.
soooo grimhammer when?
Just wanted to throw my 2c into the comments and say that I really enjoy your mod review series and hope you make more. I can't answer the question of whether they're time efficient enough for you to produce, though; I know it's more of an investment.
Am I the only TW veteran that prefers to play on Normal? I can do Very Hard but it's so cheesy and unrealistic to watch the enemy factions cheat so badly.
It's a matter of taste and fun. Personally I know if I play against normal ai I can outmicro and macro and win every time, so I need higher difficulty ai cheats so the game stays exciting. Otherwise it becomes clear I'm going to steamroll through the map by like turn 25.
Sure, I can't play Rome 2 vanilla, it makes me nauseous.
Legendary all the way. I want to be ass raped if I make a mistake.
Nope, I do that a lot too, except the hardest I've went was Hard
I think you're doing a great job with these! Even though it is 3 years later :P
you are doing great, just continue i enjoy the content
Your mod reviews are great legend I hope you continue them like 1 video a month?
When I play this mod I cannot see some bonuses of the building or unit & building names.
what can I do to fix this ?
Your mod reviews are very helpful. I trust in your opinion regarding mods.
I really enjoy your mod reviews :)
Great video for a great mod. How about a next test about Steel Faith Overhaul on Warhammer I & II?
Thibault Ailloud great idea
I actually do really like your mod reviews. You're honest and I respect your opinion
The best part about your mod review is you and your view on ot
I love your mod reviews!
I like your mod reviews, they made me play Europa Barbarorum and I´m having a blast playing Pahlava. Your opinions are very welcomed
If you dont enjoy these its all up to you but personally i really enjoy these and i think you do them very well and you dont really have anyone to compete with either as there arent many mod reviewers for total war and its better having your opinion because you are an expert at the original games instead of mods making your opinion better from experience
Only supposed to play battles on normal in DEI. Balancing gets wonky otherwise.
@EightFootSativa actually you have it wrong
You could try doing DLC review. Maybe you have more experience and competence in that area. Hope this is a good idea for you.
true Thats some easy youtube content CA doesn't stop with the DLC spam
buys a 70$ game wants to play new faction, 10-20$ just to get a new faction
just heard you ask for opinions personally youre DEI guide i found originally was what made me subscribe. i was struggling so hard trying to play that mod and after watching the guide i had a way better understanding of how it worked and had way more fun
I think they also included some sort of supply system or something so your armies need to stay in one spot for longer periods of time instead of just taking a major capital and then moving on like nothing happened.
Does anyone recommend me a total war or mod so I can watch cinematic battles with beautiful combat animations? (Sorry for my bad english)
Rome 2 with this mod. Warhammer both 1 n 2.
I really like your mod reviews
Keep doing them dude, good views and everyone is enjoying it :)
Are dlcs required for the base mod?cause i cant find anything at the mod's description :)
does this mod work with emperor edition total war 2.. its the one i have access to...thanks in advance
Dont stop. Keep going. You're good
Guys I couldn't get it to work because my game is cracked and an older version and after I deleted everything my game keeps crashing without any mods or the mod manager active any fixes?
I wouldn't mind seeing you do reviews of the games themselves. Some of my favorite moments watching your videos are when you go off on a tangent about the game you're playing. Plus if you do that then whenever somebody says "What, Legend doesn't like Attila?" you can just link to the review and be done with it. :D
I think your mod reviews are really interesting! I feel like in fairness to you/your content it makes sense to only do mod reviews of mods you've played extensively, otherwise it'd be a first-glance type of thing.
You missed the supply and attrition mechanics and great consequent scripts. Very big features too but overall good review. I personally love DEI. Really spices up the game. I love the slow pace for essentially a better strategic planning experience rather than Attila charge win or lose units in matter of seconds. Amazing mod really
So this mod is okay to use with Attila?
Continue doing mod reviews please. It adds variety to the channel, review Hellenika
Hey legend, we all love your mods reviews but please don't force yourself if you don't want to do it, because your love of what you do reflects on us the audience. So take care my good old brother and make more horse sandwiches :p love ya !!
When it comes to the mod reviews, there are a few things that I would love to learn more about in the review but I find it to be perfectly fine at the moment. I will say, however, if you don't like doing it then don't do it. Whatever you want to do, go for it
Actually Mod Reviews is the deepest and most thoughtful content on your channel. They are brilliant like a golden coin in the @ss of merchant
One of the main thing I watch your channel for is Mod review. I'm fairly new to your videos. You don't need to be an expert, we are here for your opinions. Just one suggestion - most mods don't significantly change how battles go down, other than added units or textures. So If half the video is just a custom battle, that doesn't really tell me much about the overall mod.
Youre doing a really great job ! Keep it up !
Ottoman Total Overhaul mod for Empire Total War!
please review broken crescent mod for medieval 2. you are a great reviewer please don't stop!
Is there a way to increase max number of armies beyond 18?
im 50/50 on DeI i love vanilla rome 2 though. your reviews are the only ones worth watching man its really great.
The most important thing to bring to a review is a clear outline of your priorities, and how a game/mod matches up to that. An example, from this video: if graphics aren't your cup of tea, don't attempt to cover them (and maybe note that they don't matter to you). Reviews are valuable and entertaining not because of their 100% objectivity, but because of the consistency with which a critic holds firm to, and shows, his priorities consistently across his many reviews. Your hours clocked across the many titles put you in a unique position to provide gameplay insight on mechanical improvements, and since that seems to be your focus anyway, I would definitely encourage you to make more. Don't feel obliged to provide commentary on anything that doesn't affect your impression of the game as a whole.
Your review was fair and accurate. I have been playing Caesar in Gaul using this mod. The neg, stuff. There seems to be 4 Gaul tribes. Where are the rest of them? The agents still have to much power. The building tree has so many plus and minis they you need to be a mathematics wiz to figure it out. The units and battles are great. I agree 7 out of 10
I find that you make an effort each time you do a video, so I value what you have to say. Therefore I'd like that you'd cover other mods but if you decide it's time to do other things no harm done. Looking forward to the next content as always.
I really like your mod reviews.
I love your mod reviews
These reviews have been great.
Pelegrini means people that come ocasionaly to the town to visit for exemple temples
Please keep doing mod reviews!
Bro why aren't you confident with the vids? Lots of people love them, you're doing great work. Anyone is entitled to give their opinions on a game/mod - there's no such thing as an expert. And we've come to value your input greatly. I'm late to the battle here, but I hope you decided to keep going.
No comments on the supply system? @LegendofTotalWar
