  • Michael has a blast flying a 70-year-old antique plane, and does a walk around and flight through the beautiful Arkaroola wilderness in South Australia. the Auster was used in a variety of roles during World War 2, including both a trainer and observation plane. Thanks to austerclub.org for all the great information they publish on these airplanes!

That Rope Dongle has to be a Bluetooth version on the Tin Can & String version of a Telecommunications device!

I learnt to fly in an Auster in the U.K. in the eighties. Non radio, hand swing to start the engine. A beautiful aeroplane. Many great memories.

I just love the Auster! Always wanted one, but it seems you can only register them as Experimental here in europe, and that means no ifr and a bit of a hurdle when crossing over to another country.

Flew with my talented Cousin, John Mariner, in an Auster in the late 60's at Parafield. You could see the grass of the strip through the gaps in the floor. Then years later flew with a local bush pilot at Innamincka Hotel near Cooper Creek, taking off and landing on the local roads of course! It was said that this bloke could 'hover' the aircraft over the pub on a windy day. Great flights I have taken, including flying with John in a Ryan 1939 USA low wing monoplane airtrainer.

Brilliant plane the last one I ever flew in 1966 it floated on air and was a joy, but very noisy!

I ownedVH KCZ a jinauster for18 years in the 70/80 time frame. It had the 145hpmk7 engine. good performance. Many good hours flying including glider towing. It was wrecked after I sold it when a hanger collapsed on it great to fly and keep you on your toes when landing!

Hmmmm. Rope dongle used as dental floss for pilots with really gappy teeth? Or something to bite on when you've been flying for 4 hours, but only have a 3-hour bladder??

If you encounter a bloody great mothership when 'ure heading south, you just grip that bloody dongle with both hands for grim bloody death and that way 'ur can completely stymie the abduction taking place and piss off the little greys .. it's a cheap fix that works everytime..!
