  • In this episode, I unbox, review, and give a workout to the super-budget Behringer U-Phoria UMC22 audio interface. I'll go through unpacking it, installing drivers, configuration, and using it for a simple and silly sample project.
    The link to the drivers (which Behringer has wrong on their website) is: www.asio4all.com/
    Also, apologies for the horrible vocals :-D

    do you still use this? my focusrite scarlett 2i2 1st gen won't work on the newest win 10 update (fall release developer) or whatever, and i'm thinking about getting this.

    • @YHRS
      @YHRS  Před 6 lety +15

      I bought another one to do a follow-up review and it has problems with ASIO4ALL when using any buffer size smaller than 256 samples. It's usable at that setting, but is capable of much more. I even sent that unit back and got a replacement, thinking it was a defect in the hardware. But the 2nd unit does the exact same thing. So as of today, I would NOT recommend one of these with the latest Windows updates. Maybe it'll get fixed by asio4all/Microsoft, or maybe I'll come up with a workaround. But it no longer works right out of the box like it did in this review.

    • @GramOfMayo
      @GramOfMayo Před 6 lety +2

      do you have fall release on your system? if so what's the best interface that has really good drivers if you have another interface. I was thinking about switching to something different around christmas, I can't stand focusrite, I love the box don't get me wrong, but my gain volumes are extremely low, not sure if it's my mic (mxl 990) or what. But I noticed the first gen driver and 2nd gen driver (when I had it working) had a completely different mic level.
      So far everything i've read online about boxes are the drivers suck for windows 10, which is a shame because I use mine for streaming on obs and recording mostly, and fiddle with fl studio here and there.
      It takes focusrite months at a time to release new drivers, i've been in contact with them the last 4 days and they told me it was my hardware then finally found an issue with the driver first hand and are "taking a look at it" asked when we would have an ETA on a driver, and they never answered me. just said "we are always working on drivers"
      Also; If you go to the focusrite beta page you'll see the focusrite driver...funny thing is the beta driver is the exact same thing as the 2nd gen driver they "officially" released.

      I just got the notification to download/install the big fall update, so I don't have it on either of my machines yet. So it must have been an earlier update that blew up ASIO4ALL for the UMC22. It's a shame, too...I really like this little box. Too bad Behringer made the terrible decision to use somebody else's drivers for their product.

      its a little late but, what you want to do is to set the output to behringer driver from the amplitube settings, then plug an external speaker to the headphone output on umc22 device. then it is going to use the speaker that's connected to it. and your built in speakers?(if you're using laptop) are gonna be free and you can listen to any kind of music using the built in speakers. if its a desktp pc tho, you'll need 2 different speakers.

    • @ThomasDeLello
      @ThomasDeLello Před 7 lety

      No... It's just a total aggravation now. I put almost five (5) hours into making my download come through. The pages are impossible to follow and their tech support people keep their heads where the sun don't shine. I have given up on it and will buy a PreSonus 4x4. Maybe the Beringer unit will work with that software and I can still use it for simple voice overs, etc. I put it back in the box and up on the shelf for a $40.00 loss. You can't return a "registered" product.

    Awesome review!
    I've got the UM2 version and when paired with a decent condenser mic the recorded sound quality is REAL GOOD. I paired it with a Samson MTR-201. In my setup, I found that increasing the gain knob on the UM2 to just below the point at which you clip ON the UM2 (watch the clip light), THEN turn down the record volume in Windows or MAC so as to not clip in your given daw software will give the best, super low noise floor results.
    I used a zoom h1 for recordings but the polar pattern was omni-directional and would pickup every sound around the room. Great for interviews and such. There was also this faint but distinct electrostatic popping sound when I record with it. Using the newest asio drivers from the zoom website only slightly removed that popping sound. That pop sound is amplified if you use a separate mic plugged into the zooms 3.5mm input.
    I also tried Cyber Acoustics Rainier CVL-2004 but the electrostatic noise was a constant high pitch and was even louder than the zoom's input noise.

I can hear youtube a the same time (I have used the old Behringer driver). The only weird thing is: I listen youtube and windows sounds through my normal internal Realtek Audio interface. Not through Behringer. Behringer works only with Guitar Pro and it does not even appear among recording and playback audio devices in windows panel. Is it just like that or do I miss something? I mean....you use Behringer only with a DAW, not for windows sounds? Hope to be clear. Thanks.
