Jack Wild was an incredibly talented performer. A triple threat, he could sing, dance and act. Brilliantly. I still enjoy his work, even after all these years and I hope he knows how much his fans still love and miss him.

Jack is so special. I loved Oliver when I was growing up but Jack and the Artful Dodger have always stayed with me. Together with Ron Moody, they were both phenomenal. I’m sad that Jack is no longer around to see all the love and appreciation from fans. Thank you for visiting him and paying your respects 🙏🏻

“If you don’t know who Jack Wild is…”
Oh, my, yes, I know. I was bonkers in love with him for *years*, in fact I may still be, just a little. My heart goes a-flutter any time I find an old Pufnstuf episode (which I watched religiously first time. Y’all call it strange and trippy and drug-fueled, but only in isolation: 1968-69 was just like that).
PS. HR Pufnstuf, a human sized puppet dragon, was the title role of the show HR Pufnstuf. Jack Wild didn’t play that; he played the human kid, Jimmy.
    Thank you for this.

Tragic that it is only recently that we have learned that at the root of most addictions, lies a mental illness. Jack, George Best, Ossie Clark and many others may well be alive today, had this been understood. Great work, as always, Paul👍.

I was 7 when Mum took us to see 'Oliver!" at the cinema. I used to hear her humming 'Where is love' quite often. Years later when she didnt have long for this world, she said to me 'Sing Where is Love and I'll be right beside you". This may be well known already, Croft's 'Bugaloos" which did air in Australia was banned in the UK due to the perceived double meaning in the title!

I felt quiet sad watching this, the best Dodger ever. Alcohol still is not counted as the addictive substance it can be, still advertised on the t.v. and magazines etc, it ravages the body and the mind, I was married to an alcoholic, it cost my ex his marriage and his kids, he drank himself to death aged 48. I have seen so many people either die or become very very sick due to alcohol, many of them losing their families along with it, a very sad and lonely life and many not accepting help when they have the chance. How sad that Jack Wilde ended up being like this, such a talented man...May he rest in eternal peace.❤

He was in ill health then and would hardly speak,

Hi he was was with a woman , not sure who she was ,she had dark hair, think her name was Ann,but not 100% sure,
The band were called cry wolf a local band to the area that played a little bit of everything, rock type music
As I said he hardly spoke and he sat at a table opposite the stage
My father was alive then ,he told me who he was, as I didn't recognise him as he looked unwell.
He was in there most Sundays when cry wolf played ,
I played pool in there and met up with my father every Sunday,
      We're you family ?
I remember it must of been late 90s as my father died in 2000,
It was a bit of a spit and sawdust type pub a fullers pub,the landlord was mick and Joyce Coonan,
Mick died awhile back and the pub has changed hands since
      Hope this helps

I used to work with a guy who iknew Jack as a kid in the 1960s and he told me that he used to regularly play football with him and phil Collins in the park in the mid 1960s. He said he was great fun and he was really pleased ti see him in films and tv a few years later (jack became a star a few years before Collins did, although Collins did dabble in acting as a child himself). Anyway he reckoned Jack decamping to Hollywood at such a young age was probably where things went wrong as Jack started to believe in the hype surrounding him after H R Pufnstuff went into production and it went to his head, and that's where the problems started. Incidentally Pufnstuff was cancelled after just one season as it proved to ne an expensive show to make. It was hoped that if the movie was a success then it would lead to another season but the film only did middling business and the show wasn't commissioned for a second season.

I saw that film a couple of years ago on TV. I found it a bit twee by modern standards but it was still quite entertaining and provided a snapshot of what Ireland looked like in the early 1970s so it was visually very interesting. Jack was asked to dye his hair ginger for the film but he refused so they made him wear a ginger wig. He said he always cringed at how bad that wig looked on him whenever he had to watch the film. Willy Rushton is great value in that film as his beastly English uncle (called Cromwell as a bit of an Irish in-joke) but I have to say Ron Moody's Irish accent was all over the place. Nevertheless it was still fun to watch.

( Ozzie passed in 2014 when he was 98. Such a lovely man.) total useless fact, but in the same care home, I also cared for the auntie of Will champion-the drummer in coldplay. I bumped into him and Chris Martin on Xmas day 2001 and had no idea who they were , but the girls I worked with were crying where they couldn’t believe it . Loved that job .

Child stars back then were very fortunate to remain on the straight and narrow. For every actor/singer who got through unscathed there were plenty who didn't. Jack Wild's co-star in Oliver, Mark Lester was lucky enough to emerge unscathed. Jack will be best remembered for playing the Artful Dodger, and that's no bad thing. Terry Wogan interviewed Mark Lester and Jack Wild and it's a fascinating interview. Melody is worth a watch, too.

When I was younger my Dad's firm's Xmas do for the kids was a trip to London to see Oliver! My first time in a cinema and what a great film it was. Jack's brother Arthur also died young and is said to also be buried in Toddington Cemetery

Jack was so talented God Bless Him,still love to watch him,so does my son, after all these years. Its like only yesterday when he first appeard,so that shows how much the impact he had, still has,my grandchildren love to watch him.God bless him fame as for a lot of young actors, and adult Ctors pushes them over the hedge, its too much for them to handle, they are catapulted to fame, and its too much for them. Most famouse stars end up destroying themselves cos they carnt handle it.GOD BLESS THEM.

Omg i had such a crush on him in h r puf n stuf. I never thought of puf n stuf as being weird when i was young but looking back at it now it most definitely is lol. Whoever dreamt up that show must have been on something😂. So sad he died so young and so tragically.

I actually went to the cemetery yesterday with the intention of seeing his grave, but couldn’t find it. Bizarrely, I did see the grave next to it in the video because the name on the memorial said George Baker. There was a British actor with the same name, which is why I remember seeing it. I really can’t understand just how I managed to not see the grave that I had come to see lol. Incidentally, Jack actually lived in Toddington for several years. My brother-in-law was his postman. Apparently, he lived in Princess Street, which is just off the High Street.
