Caran d'Ache Gouache Studio review // Gouache in tubes & in pans!

- Hi guys! today’s video is the review of Caran d’Ache Gouache! Both gouache tubes and gouache in tablets/pans!
Brief recap and extra of this review: to me, Caran d’ache Gouache is more of a student grade quality, a mid way between cheap and professional quality. To my preference, the quality of the gouache in pans was more enjoyable to work with than the tubes. Surprisingly the gouache in pans are pretty opaque as you lift and lay down the paint, nice quality!
The tubes are also quite opaque, although overall the coverage of Caran d’ache gouache (especially painting light on dark colors) is a bit weak.

I wouldn't have thought the dried paints to react so well and the tube paints to be so thick. In fact, that's the first time I see studio quality products from Caran d'Ache, I'm not used to lol
Thank you. And I love the Swiss-themed paintings.
Hurray! I'm happy you tried these out! I have the pan palette and I really enjoying it since it's very easy for my work schedule and travel. A bit bulky, but still good. But I do like that they also offer the tubes for those since that can be a preference for others. Here in the US, we call them pans or cakes since they seem to be similar to tempra paint cakes (at least in my part of the US), so I would guess that's why the English translation would show that instead. I believe they defaulted to that too since they're not professional level gouache. Love the work you did with this, and thank you for another great video!
Fantastic! I got this palette for my birthday and I'm very happy with it! I just always need more white, I use other brands, but I guess that's normal with gouache. I like their creaminess and their opacity <3
I love these paints i used to grow up with them (i'm swiss(: ) They are so much fun and the results are awesome i think they are awesome to bring with you as well recently i digged them out of my old supplies and painted on it was so nostalgic ^^ (: i love your results!
Thank you! You answered many of my questions about the two forms.
When I graduated high school (US) I went on a month long European tour and totally fell in love with Switzerland. My friends and I couldn't stop talking about Switzerland and how amazing it was. I want to go back soon and experience it more in depth :)
I just got the Pelikan Opaque Paintbox set of 24. I was really pleased with it, the colors are very vibrant, just as vibrant as the Carn D’ache Gouache Studio.
I loved your tutorials about Gouache and the diffarent brands you tried. Your pictures you drew and painted were just beautiful. I think I wont to order your calanders; florals and fruit. And some of your stickers as well. What a talent you have! Love Terri Simmers.
thanks for sharing with us…..it‘s a great wonderful video, with wonderful great paints too
Thank you very much for the review! That was very interesting, I must say the gouache in pans performed a lot better that I would have expected. I think you are right, there are probably not suited for professional artwork, but I think they would be great for sketching outside or to take with you on holidays. I was slightly disappointed by the tube ones, they seem rather transparent.
Thank you so much for this review ! Now i’m sure I want to buy the Caran d’ache gouache pallet 👌🏻 i really love working with gouache but it kind of hurts when i use my expensive gouache in my sketchbook
lovely review - I am quite surprise that you found the gouache pans/cakes/tablets easiest to work with! (btw in English, all 3 words make sense based on their size and shape - pans would be the most common word to use. Cakes means a like a layer of cake in this instance (flat and likely rounded with an even thickness and the inside is uniform - don't try to eat it! :P)
I've heard of dried paint referred to in all terms - pans, cakes and tablets, though tablets is the least used. This looks like a good set. Thank you for the review.
Thank you, it was helpful😊
Cute illustrations. Tablets, pans, and cakes all sound fine 😂 pans would be the most common way to refer to them, though. Considering the price in the US, I don't think they are the best value ($30+ for the set of 15 pans).
You need to try Holbein! Jackson art sells it for Europe. It's amazing.
On the website it says for use of amateur artists or painting classes which means not so light fast I believe bu it looks so good for being a student grade!
I have both the tube set and the pan set. The dried tube paint doesn't rewet very easily, so there must be a different formulation for the pans
They seem like to be one of the better studio gouache out there.
