my set bought recently doesn't have the big red illustration in the pan, they must have listened to you! It has the company name but it doesn't fill up the whole pan like that, there is much more white space.

Hajra Meeks is a phenomenal Watercolor Artist here on CZcams and she excels at Gouache as well! You should watch her work with her gouache studies, Truly amazing! Very nice overview of the Caran D'Ache set. I have used block gouache before and I had to use white from a tube to get an opaque with many of the colors I used. I am excited to watch you work! Keep going and keep working!

I just got the Pelikan Opaque Paintbox set of 24. I was really pleased with it, the colors are very vibrant, just as vibrant as the Carn D’ache Gouache Studio.

I'm here because (obviously) I got the set and am trying to figure out how to use it! My version was differently packaged (it has a swatch sheet on the cardboard) but almost the same interior - no paint information, and that red square on the tin is now just red text against a white background.

I have wanted this set but I don’t know what the red tin and the blue tin means. I don’t want to accidentally but student grade paint so I’ve been avoiding it…

The magenta is very hot pink in my set as well. It's best for mixing.

On the whole gouache Would not be used for fine art for hanging, it does not have the kind of durability as other forms of paint, even the very best gouache. Having said that, if kept out of sunlight and strong artificial light then it can be quite long lasting. These may last in the same way, except those more vivid colours. Even school poster paint can last!
So my question, as I have this set - are there other colours in this range to add to this selection? Or is this it? 15 colours.
    Lovely result btw.

I'm not sure of their "studio gouache" line, since I got this on amazon. I did find this though- www.dickblick.com/products/caran-dache-gouache-studio-sets/
which to me means they may be expanding their studio gouache line, but on amazon I did not see a bigger pan set. This is as much as I know. I really bought and reviewed this set because I was curious at how a pan dried gouache would perform compacted to a jelly gouache or gouache from a tube. I was pleasantly surprised as how well they performed for a dried gouache!

These types of paints are used by young school children in Germany. I'd assume it's the same in Switzerland, where caran d'Ache originates. They're basically used like acrylic paints, except brushes aren't ruined when lazy kids don't wash them properly and it doesn't stain clothes.
The pallette would last for the entirety of elementary school, which is 4 years. The tube of white would only last one year, but you could purchase a single tube instead of having to purchase a whole new pallette. Yes, the pans do get contaminated. But children aged 6-10 hardly care 😂 In fact, we'd mix our colors directly in the pans, never in the lid. To make orange you'd pick up a lot of red paint and stir it into the yellow pan until you got a good amount of liquid orange paint.
We'd pretty much just paint large areas of (kind of) flat color anyway. On regular drawing paper, by the way. With horrible hog hair brushes!
From what I understand, in the US crayons are the go to art supply for young children. In Germany it's Gouache (although we have a different name for it).
I just wanted to explain why this pallette is the way it is and why it's different from what artists consider Gouache to be. This pallette is great for simple sketchbook work, especially on the go. But it can't really be compared to artists gouache.

I have the same set and I LOVE IT, because my problem with my jelly gouache is that it looks streaky in my art and there are bumps in my art (Kinda like acrylics) but with the pans I don’t get that.
Buuuut I really don’t like the white, I use the W&N white it’s awesome to work with with!

@kinga burger Imagine thinking you should tell a stranger how they spend their freetime. How long did it take for her to come up with this concept, draw it, paint it, edit and upload all of this? Then you dare to use up more her time with your useless advice. You actually seem self aware when it comes to your lack or art skills, but you seem shockingly ignorent of how to interact with other human beings. With peace and love, I would really encourage you to work on your social skills instead of your art.

It is very fascist of you to tell people they can only exist in an art space if they are already perfect. Imagine how God damn boring and awful the world would be if only perfection was allowed. Have a nice day...

    • @kingaburger1118

@@NB-lx6gz “fascist”? Have you lost all sense of proportion? If you think me saying that someone should know what they are doing before they go out and try to teach people is “fascist” then you are really cheapening the suffering of the victims of actual fascist regimes and you should be ashamed of yourself.
Ironically, it was Hitler himself who was a poor and unimaginative painter and whose ego couldn’t take the criticism his art received so he turned a genocidal maniac.
Nowhere did I say she can’t exist in “artspace” (what’s wrong with your reading comprehension). Lots of people on this platform share their learning journey and their progress as artists and it’s lovely.
This video used to be called “tutorial” and trying to teach people when you know you’re clearly a beginner with some very expensive tools reeks of narcissism and entitlement.
