⚡Is driving for Flex worth it in 2023? Here's a full breakdown: czcams.com/video/X3AkMJhh2SQ/video.html
Private Road driveways kill your suspension!
When I scan packages at Same Day station, start you’re route, then go to your itinerary list, at the top you can scan barcodes (top right search barand it will tell you the stop #. I number my packages with stop # and so 1-10 go in front, 20-30passenger back seat, all others behind me (driver rear seat) east grab. I get paid to exercise, no gym membership. And I have a little Hooptie car. 🤣. Love your content! Keep up the good work! ❤️
The deliveries I think we all despise the most have to be the enormous apartment complexes where you'll usually have to somehow get access to the leasing office to get to the lockers (God help you if it's outside of open hours), or you'll either be given incorrect access codes to gates/doors or none at all, PLUS the customers usually tend to never respond to phone calls when you need their assistance. Can't tell you how often I'll be given incorrect photos on where to enter. Such a colossal waste of time.
And you get dinged in the ratings if you don’t deliver in these impossible situations.
Thanks for sharing, we don't have a lot of gated entry here in Pittsburgh but it was common in San Diego. I do remember a few incorrect gate codes, definitely a pain.
Great video Mike. Here in California the minimum hourly pay is $22/hr, but if you're lucky you can get a shift that pays up to $45/hr, and $50/hr during Christmas time. Typically I don't take any shifts that pay less than $30/hr. This morning I actually had a 4hr shift that paid $35/hr. It's helped me greatly add in an additional source of income 👍🏽
Organization is key! It saves so much time between orders. Great video Mike!
Thank you Sara! I actually utilize your method when I'm organizing the packages
Why do I feel like it’s a fun guessing game how fast I can find it haha but no logistically probably much better that way I’ll have to try it
Thanks for making this video, to show people what it can really be like.
I drove a few runs with AF in Australia over Summer. They gave me over 50 items to deliver. My car is small and the boxes were stacked so high I could hardly see out of the back and rear side windows. I felt quite unsafe until I'd delivered a few packages.
Having to get in an out of the car so often in the blazing Australian summer heat was also horrible. I also found it very difficult to manipulate large boxes under the scanners of the Amazon Flex lockers, in order for the locker to be able to scan the barcode.
Keep up the good work of exposing the truth behind these gig (verging on slavery) jobs.
Better than Uber or Lyft
I like it 😊
Hey Mike!
Great analysis and content about AmazonFlex!-;() Stay Safe and may all your shifts be prosperous!-;()
Thank you!
Depending on the station the little sticker will have a number for example (1-1) the first number is the stop the second one is the number of package like (6-9),
I also go to a station where they do not do that so I put the stop # on the label so I could make it easier on me. It also helps to divide them by 10 so 1-10, 11-19, 20-29 and so forward.
I have been an Instacart driver for years and have definitely delivered straight to the customers door at nursing homes. Going to do my first Flex block tomorrow. Thank you for the video. It helps knowing what to expect. Those training videos are nice and all, but telling me and showing me are two different things. 😅
Love your content. Our children are all in college and I am taking a course or two a semester to finish my degree so I am looking for a side hustle like flex or spark that I can hopefully do early am to around noon or maybe longer every other day. Thinking maybe spark or flex will be best. Learning so much from your channel! Thanks!
Means a lot WarriorMom! Thanks so much I'm happy to see you're getting value
Nice work. I drive for Amazon Flex part time. It is nice gig to make your own work schedule.
Yeah, I agree. I really only pick up the package blocks if they are around 30-35 an hour. I also really like the Amazon Fresh blocks.
$30-$35 would definitely be more worth it
From the video I agree Sewickley is setup really well!
Haven't tried the Coraopolis but unsure if I want to do Flex again
If I end up going over, I go to "earnings" in the app, click on the block I did, and click "report a problem". As long as I emphasize that I went over due to circumstances outside my control and I made extra effort, they give me a time adjustment for my pay.
Flex is really only worth it during the Christmas rush. I’ll never forget the November 2022 batch from the DCX2 warehouse that filled my entire car up with packages going to just 2 neighborhoods - a gated community and a condo complex - both in Rancho Santa Margarita. Had a full tank of fuel when I started and was still at 90% when I was done, so ended up doing DoorDash immediately afterward and making close to $200 that evening. At any other time of the year, however, it sucks.
Needs to be minimum $25/hr for me to consider a flex block - $30/hr is generally what I look for. It's my favorite gig if the offers are there, and luckily in my market you can get that pretty regularly with some patience and keeping an eye on the app. I like that once you're done with the warehouse, most of the variability time wise is gone (other than apts) and it's super-chill and laid back. As opposed to having to constantly deal with restaurants, sifting through orders for decent ones, etc. with other gigs. Generally finish at least 30 minutes early, unless you get all apartments - even then I've only gone over by a few minutes (hint, don't let them suck up a bunch of time - find a safe place and leave it if you can't get in efficiently).
the huge cons are the unpredictable routes lately I been getting good routes, but my biggest problem is getting in to apt buildings. The codes wont work! Customers dont answer phone. So the option is to go around wasting time hoping a door is open or wait for someone to go in or out and keep in mind you dont want to mark not delivered because you dont want to go back to the warehouse and for some reason Flex down grades you for that or sometimes the gate wont open because they make you deliver packages at 4am codes wont work durrng certain times.
Great video, I am sharing this one!
Have you driven for Axelhire? They deliver food subscription boxes like Farmers Dog and Factor.
The reason I don’t werk that app any longer is that you reserve your route, but… 2 people can and do reserve the same route.
So like flex you go to the warehouse to pick up the route. thing is you can pull up and get a text that it was picked up by somebody else.
Probably somebody in the parking lot right now loading up?
I’m asking about real decency here, why a company would give away work.
Axelhire is trash. And they do their drivers dirty! Sounds like a cool Collab with Coffeezilla. I dare you!
Thank you sooooooooooooooooo much. 8 minutes in and Now I know its not for me. I been ubering people and you get just a little road rage because of other drivers but other than that it has been hassle free plus made more thanks to tips. Again ty sooooooooooooooo much because I was about to sign up but stopped and google search reviews and found your video.
Yes 100% you need to organize by stop scan each package before you put it in your car from your itinerary search and it will tell you what stop it is
Thank you for posting this, I did something similar in December with rx delivered delivering prescriptions and it was a nightmare! Blind routes, West Hollywood to Woodland Hills, 40 plus miles away, 4 bucks per delivery and you have to get signatures sometimes, roughly about 18 to 20 stops, 30 cents per mile, never again! I got stuck inside a private property and literally hopped the gate
Thanks for sharing, I think I might've gotten stuck inside a privacy property once as well. Vaguely remember.
Depends with market your didn’t sound so good. NY-LI base is $20. 4 hrs usually finish in 3 hrs. I usually take that last hour and turn on Dash/Uber and do orders heading back home. Helps with maximizing mileage to be written off.
Also during Christmas nothing beat it. Boosted runs were going $130+ for 4 hrs which you finish early.
I live in a small city in Texas. The vans get the majority of the routes within the actual city while the rest of the surrounding small towns and rural roads are given to flex drivers. Almost all of the deliveries I do is on dirt and gravel roads. Some "roads" are literally just a pot hole infested path and brush. And GOD FORBID I get sent to deliver on a damn windmill farm where there's no service. I had a route the made my last delivery on a windmill farm about 45 min away from my city. The block finished in the app but I had no service and couldn't get a map to home pulled up. I drove around for 30 minutes lost and crying because I still had to get back in town to pick up my kids from school in time. The farms are also gated so there were only a couple of open access gates across miles and miles of land. I finally found my way out but it was terrifying! I have to carry a taser for the idiots who leave their aggressive dogs out too. I've stopped doing flex lately as it's been hard on my little ford focus and I'm so screwed if something happens to my car. That and blocks are only paying around 15-17 an hour in my area. Not worth getting my car beat up or getting lost over 😑
Organization is key with amazon and putting stuff next to you so u can grab and go. No need to look for anything. Literally finish 2x as fast. 30 stops done in an hr.
I did an increased rate, 5 hour block yesterday morning. I didn't have to go 45 minutes to my first stop, but it took a little over five hours to finish. I have one return to do by 10 AM today, but I go by my warehouse a lot anyway, so not a big deal. The problem I do have is that my very first package and some subsequent packages were late, because I took the time to organize my route.
It usually takes me 15 minutes to check in, find my rack/cart, and organize/load my car. By the time I did that and got to my first stop, it was late.... 😒
With the checking out thing, after 3 times, I just force kill the flex app and restart it. That usually fixes it
I enjoy this gig. Getting dinged in ratings for not having correct access codes, businesses closing early, trying to deliver in a hurricane zone with no street signs or posted addresses and even a whole building missing, and such…. Not fun. But the rest I enjoy, even the hard labor.
Since I started pulling over before my 1st stop and organizing, I usually save a lot more time than the, at most, 5-10 minutes I took to do so. It’s worth it.
Even though I could make more money, I still like this better than Uber eats and anything involving food delivery or even driving people. This is a shift where I know I’m going to make a certain amount of money. I’m not sitting there waiting for whoever knows how long for a ride or for somebody to order a ride or someone to order food. I haven’t tried Whole Foods yet because it’s not offered in my area. It’s offered in the warehouse in the next city over but I would have to drive an hour just to get to the area from my house. So I haven’t tried that yet.
Great video!
I agree with all same reasons but now I’m at one auto repair getting bearings replaced and Monday need to have suspension parts replaced
Definitely organize by stop 100%!!!!
The helper labels are numbered, I organize the envelopes in my front seat and the early boxes are in my backseat and the later boxes are in the trunk
$18/hr is absolutely unworkable. Trash IMO. I look for $30+/hr in order to schedule a block, otherwise it just isn't worth it. That one dirt road you traveled is often times what I see for entire routes.
I wanted to share this since you mentioned it in the video - my very first order I was 13 minutes late finishing up the deliveries for my block ($74, 5pm to 9pm block, finished at 9:13). I contacted support to ask them if I could get an extension for the block to avoid a penalty on my standing. The following day, I received $9.25 as an "excess block adjustment". I'm not sure if this only happened because it was my first day, but I think it's possible to get an increase in your earnings if you have too many packages and end the block late!
You received the adjustment so easily because your new. Try that after a couple of months and you will have to hire an attorney to get paid.
Today. 3 hour shift $102. 25 miles to warehouse 26 miles towards the opposite way from home. 20+ miles for the drop offs 47 miles back home. 118 miles for $102!!!!!! I’m not ever doing warehouse runs anymore only grocery. Wrong address drop off on the Amazon map, access codes not working, many other annoying things to. Can’t believe I ended up taking it I thought it woulda turned out alright because the $34 and hr and I ended up only making 0.86 cents per mile not including gas and maintenance. Smh
I will say the nice thing about Flex is when I work at 3:30 AM, I can be guaranteed to make around $100 bucks before my family wakes up.
nice video, curious about amazon relay, you just need a normal driver license and a 26' truck
I haven’t started the Amazon Flex because it waiting lists here in my area. But, can you list information on your camera equipment, such as the camera you wearing over the vest.
Boy, back when I did this in 2019, could I tell you stories about the places I went, somewhere I have a screenshot of a delivery where I had no service for the entire thing which was a mile and half long dirt road. Or how about the one where I went wandering down a dirt road, find a house... And tacked on a tree was a scrap of wood with the house number I was looking for and an arrow pointing to the left.
As to prepping the car, I never worried about sorting them, however I did put the envelopes in a pair of Ikea wire basket/drawers, one on the passenger seat, one on the floor, making it easy for me to flick through them and find what I needed. Boxes I just dug for, but I also always used a van or wagon so that gave me a lot of room to move things around and spread them out.
Are the package drop off planned out strategically where they are worth the gas mileage? And do you visit the same warehouse or are there different ones?
I organized my packages for flex envelopes plastic bags front seats and the XL box on the bottom then a medium box on top and a small box on top of the medium thats my easiest way to find all the packages rearly I put a big boxes in the trunk for me to pick up amazon route is 30$ an hour because of a longer distance to the first location a one way street and the terrible road which most times send me to :D
I haven't done a Flex route in a month ...wanna know why? My Honda civic is not a boat nor can it navigate a washed out road. I was doing more damage to my car then the route was even worth so if i absolutely need the money and have nothing else to do then I will do a route. Plan on a route every 6 months so I'm not kicked and that's it lol
so far, i've never gotten a stop where i've had to deliver more than one package! maybe this happens more on the longer shifts with more packages.
i can usually rely on getting a surge pay block that's paying me $20+ an hour here in Charlotte, and I've consistently finished early on all my shifts thus far. Great video and insights, definitely preparing me for the unpredictability that comes with this hussle.
Glad to help, nice that you're finishing early. I feel like overall I do finish early, I only remember 2-3 shifts that went long.
charlotte nc? i’m just starting in the same area, haven’t done a block yet. any advice?
In Iowa, it’s $18/hr for shifts that start from 10:30 to 1:30 and $22/hr for shifts that begin at 2:00 onward. If you had taken that shift an hour later, you might’ve gotten a better rate
Definitely, most of my shifts I sign up to guarantee it's locked in so I can film. Ideally I'd wait until $20-$22+ an hour
I do Flex but I do higher pay blocks as my warehouse is about 35 minutes away from me. Some of the drivers I talked to, do flex because they don’t want to deal with customers. That was the number 1 reason I heard for ppl doing flex. Others work out of this particular depo until they get enough points to move to a closer depo or to get on Fresh. In my market you have to pay your dues to get on Fresh.
in south bend in , there have been almost zero offers for blocks 2023. im level2 fantastic rating. no offers since January. Hopefully it picks up soon. No reserved blocks i normally get for level 2. nada...
I used to give flex drivers their routes. I know a lot about it and I can say it’s worth it if you know what you’re getting into. I want to drive for flex in my city but I quit the warehouse and since you mentioned bringing packages back I’ve decided not to even do it. Glad I watched this. Maybe I’ll flex in another town one day
Give drivers routes as in you assigned routes? It isn’t automatic?
??. Thought you knew alot aboigit
It???
45 minutes is typical in Raleigh. What we hate is driving 1.25 hours to Greensboro then driving 1 hr 45 minutes to go home-for a $90 5 hr block and 225 miles.
I enjoy Amazon flex i usually go to the one day express stations for 3 hour block I only get a cart with 15 to 20 packages every time and I also grab my blocks that pays me $100 minimum
I just did a 4 hour night block with Flex here in Connecticut. Took me 5.5 hours because I didn't want to return any packages. The whole mud and gravel thing is much worse at night even though the pay is higher because you can't see where you're going and it's scary stuff if the house has no lights. Lions and tigers and bears - Who knows!? I got paid 98 bucks for 20 packages. I wouldn't recommend it for the faint of heart. 😮
They don't give you the packages in groups of 1st 10 deliveries then next 20, so you are sifting through 40+ packages to start the delivery?
It's been crazy driving amazon 😳 I feel like it puts to much miles on my car.
idk if is the same as a sameday delivery but the best way to organize is to group with the letters on the yellow stickers A B C D
You are correct. I can sort 30 packages in 4 minutes and 40 packages in 8 minutes. I used to mark the packages until I started sorting them by letter.
Mine does the same thing when I swipe to finish!!! EVERY SINGLE TIME I GO!!!! I just leave then do it again down the road.
I would love to do a video with you about the problems I’ve encountered here. From being verbally assaulted by a customer, animals in the road at night, potholes that could swallow your car, and damage to my vehicle from driveways.
Dude! I’ve done the deliveries to Uber eats to a hospital room before COVID! It was rewarding back then…
I have delivered food to both and workers and patients for senior care and medical buildings.
I’ve been doing flex since 2019. Stopped June 2020 and resumed July 2023.
It’s hard to get surged blocks because of bots but I try to stay away from base. If a route is not paying over $30 or better, I don’t want it
I totally agree with you!! Walmarts Spark thus far, has been terrible. My 1st ti.e i waired 30 min while thry figured out the order was already picked up. I would not reccomend flex to anyone because of the wear & tear on your car whether old or new.
I worked for Amazon delivery first so I already know all the tips and tricks and most things about delivering for them. My thing is what's the pay like. And how many packages will I get
Also if you don’t organize for packages correctly and have to search at drop offs for sure you will not make it within your block time
What delivery app should I download to get multiple orders?
Thank you for this video. Even if you had all the packages in order the blind routes and wear and tear on your personal car makes this job not worth it. I think if you enjoy the driving you'd be better off working for a subcontractor with FedEx, or UPS, using their vehicles...
I’m not happy just starting to do this more often and need to replace suspension parts.
I like Amazon flex, that's because I can get a mild cardio workout in on top of my weight training 😃💪
There base pay is $23/hr unless its a surge. Driving 45 mins one way and then back home after said deliveries is NOT worth it
Did you pick up at the one by the airport?
I have delivered to a senior home facility on Walmart Sparks, and you have to deliver to their door.
Think its worth mentioning surge pay. Yes base pay in most markets is around 15-18 an hour but in the Kansas City market I am able to get consistent surges of 30-40 an hour.
Nice surge, how many shifts are still available in that last hour of sign ups? I feel like shifts go decently fast here
@@YourDriverMike As of today I have 80+ (all base pay) blocks. I tend to see surges in the early morning routes throughout the day before and tend to see $40+ an hour surges between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM for the 5:30 PM blocks.
For me personally it’s worth it but sometimes it’s not. I just don’t like not knowing where I’m going or how many miles I’ll be driving. The warehouse is 25 miles away from my house so 50 miles just commuting. Honestly I found driving there is fine if I’m doing a grocery delivery for usually 2 hours then do food delivery around that area after. The warehouse runs can be intense sometimes but those are worth it if that base is like $150 sometimes it is
Occasionally, I will switch over to the West Mifflin Jefferson Hills area. I hate the traffic and downtown Pittsburgh. But lately it hasn’t even been busy for Jefferson Hills. The map is gray and I am not top dasher yet. I have been working paid by time to raise my acceptance rate so that I can Dash any time in July at least
Im going to be doing this but working for a company that supplies a vehicle but has 10 hour shifts for 19/hr i hope its worth it.
One time I had to deliver over 20 packages for a 2 hr shift which was all apartment complexes (6-15 floors) and had to deliver to their door. Smh it was one of the worst experiences ever.
I live in RI smallest state so it’s not to bad here & I usually make $100 in 3hours give or take . I enjoy it
It was worth it in 2022 in Cincinnati. 2023 it’s oversaturated with drivers and low pay should be at least 27-30/hr
In my area Burlington,Bordentown,Trenton,Robbinsville ,Hamilton it's avg $22 hr. Your just not going to catch those $28-30hr last min trips(bots get those anyway) all my trips keep me in state . I've had people who work lower southern nj Salem, Swedesboro they may travel to DE and Chester PA areas on deliveries
Do you get paid for gas separately?
I made $26 an hour in Phoenix on my first four hour shift, $120 total. THANK YOU MIKE!!!
Nice job!
Which warehouse?
57 miles i have never done on a 4.5 delivery. Uk is totally different to us but the pay is different
They use the Vans for local deliveries and the flex drivers they send 200 million thousand miles away!
Packages should have stickers on it for drivers
For this specific flex order my minimum considering the miles would be 120. That 45 minutes travel time is too long for ONLY 15/hr.
Easy here in Gateshead uk direction park wait and they flag you through
I front seat first 10 stops then hit road. Then next 5 etc.
one of my distributions centers labels AAA, BBB, CCC, DDD throw them in bin in my car.
You can always call them if it goes over and they will make up the difference. Not sure y they didn't do it for u but they do. Still worth the phone call for anyone who does go over
I downloaded the point pick up app and it puts me on a stupid waiting list
I drive for Flex, if you run late for a reason, Flex will adjust your pay. Just happened yesterday.
I just started flex. First shift was 90$ for 3 hours. I finished in 3 and a half. Didnt arrange packages at all. Second shift was 96$ for 4 hours. Finished in 3 and a half as well. But this time i arranged packages by stop. I think arranging the packages makes a huge difference in time.
Would you recommend flex? Im thinking of starting
@s1rm0rr1lswdsx3 it depends man. Are you close to the fulfillment center? I was about 22 miles away so I was racking up 50 miles just to go there and back. Out of 5 shifts that I've done so far I got 1 shift that was just awful in downtown Cincinnati. No parking, all apartments, hard to find places. But the others were easy residential and most of those shifts I finished early - 30 min to an hour early. If you're close to the amazon center it's a lot better- there were a few shifts I was sent 30 min away, which ended with me taking a whole hour just to get home at the end of it which sucked. I also never took base pay shifts. Taking base pay shifts wasn't worth it at all to me.
I don't like waiting 10 or 20 minutes for other orders to pop up it sucks
Anything after the time I bring back. I live close to the warehouse
I work in a senior care facility and despite what Amazon says, you'd have to leave the package at the front desk or return it. No exceptions.
Thanks for sharing, I asked the front desk first to verify she was very familiar with deliveries and confirmed yes deliver to their doors. I can see not wanting that though depending on the residents, health concerns etc
Lol I like dpp7 better, the staff is friendlier and they are much more chill. Only downside is you get sent to WV and Ohio more often.
There is a lot of things I see your inexperienced with.
I would do it for $30 an hour with all that hustle of checking packages each stop to find the exact one, lots of miles and rushing to be on-time at the end of the shift. Tbh it was a waste of time doing that flex. Thanks for letting us know how it works and save us time and money to not consider doing that crap job 😁
Yes the classic cost/benefit, where does the pay tip the scale? I feel like food delivery is much more relaxed for the same or more pay. Flex at $25+/hr would be ideal for the workload
Sounds like food deliveries and actually picking people up give back the smartest returns for your time (including tips). I’d hate to waste time driving 40+ minutes for maybe 25 a hour
If your not writing off all expenses associated with deliveries even your food !!! Your not doing it right
Meanwhile the regular van drivers are running at each stop cutting corners driving with side door open and blasting the music at max volume😂
of course thats the move
In Seattle Amazon flex driver can make 200+ a day
I’m probably not doing blocks longer than 2 hours. I like the early morning Whole Foods instant offers.
I did my first warehouse block today. 2 hours, 3 packages for $50 & I finished an hour early. Canton Michigan warehouse. This was after doing like 1.5 hours of food delivery with GH & DD for a little over $40. Not a bad lil’ night for me.
My Uber Eats offers have been mostly trash recently.
Spark has been alright some mornings.
Do uber or doordash going home from the end of the route and those are no longer commuter miles.
$18 an hour for 50+ miles...no way.
Amazon fleeces a few thousand drivers a day by doing that. Sending people out to the middle of nowhere lol
This gig requires a 4 X 4 truck!
