    Great video, thanks for sharing. I bought the MA2 Fly more combo w/the smart controller for $1399. I love the controller. As you said, you can be in the air getting footage SO much faster!

    Great review. You helped me determine that this controller is not what I need, especially at that price.

    I just pulled the trigger and got the smart controller, to me it’s worth it, like you say in your video it’s very fast to deploy your drone with the smart controller and I am also working on my part 107 license so I can fly the drone commercially, aka (make money).

  • @GoldenNuggetLax
    @GoldenNuggetLax Před 3 lety +3

    I waited to buy the Mavic Air 2 until it worked with this smart remote. Absolutely hate using my phone (S20 Ultra) to fly a drone, pretty much a deal breaker for me. Yes the price is ridiculous, but for me it was a must and completely worth it. When I'm out on an adventure or visiting something eventful, I am using a GoPro (Hero9 and Max) for normal video, my phone mostly for pictures, an SLR for serious scenery and a drone for a video of different perspectives. This smart remote allows for that capture flow wonderfully.

    B - you're spot on with this and you ended with the exact reason that I didn't buy it. I make just as much money with the "ghetto" not-smart controller and a phone/tablet. Actually, I can upgrade that phone and tablet and get more options and control than being stuck with the same "smart" controller with the same old hardware and same old small screen for years.
    It's a great idea but it's about 3X too expensive and about 2 years too old to even be considered. Good video review, very honest.

    The power button on the controller is the the same as other dji products. You can just push and hold to turn it on. You do not have to push once, then push and hold.

    @DronerTech I'm glad I found a pro, finally. Very well reviewed, honest, and somehow wholesome. I just got my first drone a few days ago (DJI Mac Air 2 W/ smart controller fly more.) Can you tell me how to zoom in on the thing?
    Btw, I subscribed. You talk well, clear, educated, and excited. I plan to check out a few other vids. Keep up the great work!
    Thanks!!

      me too, RC. Just yesterday I bought the Air2 with the 'add on' package ... not many videos or instructions that cover exactly the startup details for the Air 2, but nice 'Easter present' to myself ... and finally made my 'maiden flight' just before dark today. Spent way too much time trying to find the "Link button on the underside of the aircraft" on the Air2 ... there ain't none! gotta hold the plane's power button down for 4 seconds instead. But I LOVE the controller so far -- did not want to fumble around with iPhone.

    Good comparison and pros & cons. As we professionals (as you say) need to look at other options that may give you more bang for your bucks. The Firehouse technology command center will most likely be my next major purchase. It only drawback is its size, but it gives you all the things you need, to satisfy yourself and potential clients.

  • @FulvioM
    @FulvioM Před 2 lety

    Hi. Thanks for the review. Since this video is 1 yr old maybe this already came up but for me you missed one of the downsides: SIZE. For me, as a leisure user and owner of a Mavic Air 1, what I most appreciate is the portability: compact drone and super compact controller. Everything fits in my sling bag including 2 extra batteries.
    This controller looks huge and surely wouldn't fit in a small bag.

  • @TheGroundBelow
    @TheGroundBelow Před 3 lety

    Hi B, you make really good videos, clear and easy to understand so people can build their knowledge. I wonder if I could ask you a question about the Smart Controller, linked to maps. When I got my first drone it was a Spark, I used iOS and Litchi, with Google Maps. Now I have upgraded to a Mavic Zoom and have a Smart controller, I’m super happy with everything apart from one thing, the Maps. When I’m in the DJI go4 app to do waypoints and such like the maps are really poor, very outdated and not very detailed or clear for planning missions. Is there a way to use Google maps on the smart controller? If there is please share it as my experience with litchi set the bar with the maps, now I have a better drone and controller but poor maps😀
    Thanks Jason (UK)

  • @1xway
    @1xway Před 3 lety

    Thanks for this review it definitely helped me make the correct decision. I’m not a professional so I don’t need a controller that cost more than half the DJI Air 2.

  • @NorthernCad
    @NorthernCad Před 3 lety

    Would the controller be worth it if you bought it with the drone? In canada, it's 2000 for the mavic air 2, fly more combo with smart controller and dji care refresh. The fly more combo without the Smart controller is 1300 canadian.

  • @d.hansel854
    @d.hansel854 Před 3 lety

    (I have a DJI Mavic 2 Zoom)
    In another video the person said the gimbal and zoom control were switched.
    Can you reverse the controls in the software?
    I'm used to having the gimbal control on the left and zoom on the right.
    I wish the price would come down. Surely they have made up their research and development by now.

  • @JuganautTimelapse
    @JuganautTimelapse Před 3 lety

    That's a really good review. I have flown Phantoms but I really travel a lot and love the look of what the Mavic Air can do and it's just so portable. I was weighng up the Smart Controller or using an iphone 8. Having watched your review I think it's better to go with the iphone 8 as it seems the battery life on the SC is not that great....for something which is fairly expensive. Thanks for making this :-)

  • @BrooklynBound4
    @BrooklynBound4 Před 3 lety

    I have the SC. I fly the MA2 so far I have had issues with this controller. Since the latest update, the DJI app crashes while flying numerous times and the UAV is unresponsive during flights and functionality lags on the screen. I sent it back to DJI ( Not a fan of their Customer Service Experience) and the result after testing was “No Fault”. The SC is being returned and let’s see what happens. I don’t know if you heard or experienced these events with the controller? Lastly I manually updated and downgraded the sware no luck before I reluctantly sent it out.

  • @eddiethomas4125
    @eddiethomas4125 Před 3 lety +1

    When the smart controller first was released. It controlled the mavic 2 Pro and Zoom. You mistakingly said it only flys the mavic 2 Pro and Air/Not true. It controls the Zoom as well. Just a heads up. PS.. In your defense since the Air 2 came out the Zoom has been forgotten.

  • @ValConB
    @ValConB Před 3 lety +1

    Here's a question for anyone in the know (but first, thanks to Droner Tech for posting this video): I have not yet purchased a DJI Mavic Air 2, but am planning to soon. I checked my 4-year old Samsung phone specs and it is likely not compatible - neither is my 7" Samsung tablet that is 7 years old. I have a newer Lenovo 10" tablet that should be compatible, but probably too big. I am thinking since I may need to purchase a newer phone or tablet anyway, maybe the $412 extra the smart controller will cost if purchased in the fly more bundle may be worth it. I will only be using as a hobbyist at first, but may see if there are opportunities in my area to make some money down the road. Any thoughts?

    I get this is 8 months old, but you are literally the only person who ever said the threaded holes in the bottom are for storage of the sticks... I mean maybe, but with actual storage for them behind the antenna why would DJI make threaded holes that they stick out of? Yes they do match the threads, but who would "store" sticks like that? Thanks for a great review!
    Also, if your getting 40 flights from your Standard controller, I'll buy it from you. It's rated for 5 hours (2x the smart controller)

    • @BlairAir
      @BlairAir Před 2 lety

      And one thing this thing doesn't that your phone does (if its IOS) IS SCREEN DIMMING IN HOT CONDITIONS 🤔 You will never have your screen go near black and impossible to see FPV feed with this 😉 😜- just sayin' Charging time on a 5v 1a charger is 8 hours a PD 65w will fully charge it from dead in 90-95 minutes.

    Just watched your video about the SC, I really dont think its worth it. I really not happy abut this cached maps business. Mine cost £600. But I must say I do seem to get further distance. But is it worth it over using my iPhone x Max or ipda mini screen. The brightness is good thats all.
