Randy, I’m a fan, but a $500 rod is very unrealistic for most of your viewers. Please give us a valid rod recommendation for those of us middle class anglers with a more normal budget in the $100-200 range. Big thanks, Paul

He did in past videos, he also uses Levante spining rods for his jerkbaits. He sponsored by megabass so of course he's going to push them. The Destroyer P5 are very good rods almost as good as NRX in sensitivity for less money. I think his point was if you are going to buy one spinning rod spend a much as your budget allows.

Megabass are actually nuts rods. These are something that you invest in for longevity...
Try looking at phenix feather rods they weigh 54g.. but not as strong...
Mursame tournament spin weighs only 68g but is super strong!!!
Palms pinwheel rods. I use personaly. Does the job, the top three guides are wrapped with high vis reflective white thread something I find really cool that other bfs rods don't have. is high-quality cost me $300 AUD... is heavier than the other rods but have so much variety. Anglers republic make super nice rods with wooden inlays...

I have not tried the Megabass p5. I'm not going to either. I'm sure it's not a bad rod. From what I've read from guys that have compared them in their hands ( where the p5 isn't the only high end rod they have ) they do not have the sensitivity of other high end rods. Combine that with only a 3 year warranty, I'll pass. Megabass lower offerings have pretty good reviews at a price point where it might make sense.
I have an Okuma X that is fantastic for the money. It does fish a little light in the power department. They can be found on sale for a little over $200. I also have a Daiwa BLX that is fantastic. It's a $400 rod, but you can sometimes find them for $200. Both have lifetime warranties. I've fished rods costing much more and I don't feel like I'm under gunned with those.
Phenix and Hammer rods at under $200 are well regarded and have great warranties. There's others too. Some of the older 13 Fishing Muse feel fantastic in my hands, I haven't tried the new ones. Loomis GLX can be found for around $350 if you look and St.Croix Legends can be found for the same. Loomis have lifetime warranty, St.Croix is 15 years, but transferable. Either of those rods have great resale value if need be.
If you're on a budget, you really only need one high end rod for jig fishing and the like where sensitivity is critical, something like a crankbait rod is not as demanding.

Fishing rods are like bows, everyone likes something a little different. I always tell people to go to the store and handle a many rods as you can to find one you like. I even encourage prior to bring the reel they are going to use to put on it to as bow or balances. As far as P5 not being sensitive, I'll disagree on that one.

Don't just blindly advertise whatever product they ask you to. You need to get in a room with them and help them understand WHO and WHAT we are and based on that criteria you can advertise products that speak to us. I don't fish tournaments and never will, so buying a $500 rod is pointless. If I had to venture to guess...I'd say we're mostly in the $300 range for the whole setup (rod AND reel). A topic I actually agree with you on Randy. Although I do prefer nrx plus rods for spinning. All that extra sensitivity really helps you feel a bite when you see the fish on your forward-facing sonar and you're tossing out a hover juggle.

For $500 I would expect more than a 3-year warranty. But you are right about getting a quality rod. Which is why I like to buy mine in person even if I have to travel a bit to find the ones I am looking for. I hate ordering a rod online cuz I like to hold it in hand before I purchase it

Randy. Love the videos. I love fishing but I do it for fun. I understand what you’re saying and I know it to be true. However, can you talk about the Ugly Stiks that are usually under $100.? I ask because I now own a couple. They seem fine for what I do. Could you maybe review those types of rods? I also fish from my paddle board. I need a small selection of gear with me. Thanks.

Please tell us Randy, as expensive as those high-tech, one-piece rods are, why do they Never come with a case? Even a full size SUV needs a ceiling rack for one-piece rods. I have One single piece rod ... an Ugly Stik ... smallest they make ... 4 ft. 6 in. ... great for Trout & Panfish. Everything else, from 5.5 ft. - 9 ft. is in two pieces. Travel by car is much easier with tackle packed away.

IMO the Megabass Orochi rods are worth every penny. I was using 100 dollar rods before and i can say i was missing a ton of bites when finesse fishing when its super tough. Main thing is get what you can afford.

Good video Randy. I’ll add my 2 cents.
Being that I primarily fish for smallmouth bass, I’ve gone through a handful of spinning rods over the years.
    1. my best piece of advice is to go to the store and actually pick up rods in person. I think ordering online should be your last resort. Everything is about feel.
    2. Don’t feel the need to break your budget. There’s a lot of great sensitive and well-balanced, fishing rods, and a variety of price points these days.
    Have fun out there
