How to Use Enviro-Tex Lite : Pour On High Gloss Finish

- Here is a short video about using the popular Enviro-Tex Lite Pour-On High Gloss Resin Finish available at art supply stores and some hardware and department stores.
In my case, we used it for a thick, hardened gloss finish on a wood panel mounted photo print.
It's very easy to use and even easier if you have someone to show you a few of the tricks to make sure you get high quality results.
We wanted to try out the Enviro-Tex Product and we have also been using "Art Resin" brand which is very similar - a video on that one coming soon.
Thanks for watching and please subscribe for more!

Thanks, lots of good tips.
if you apply masking tape to the back of your print at the edge. When the print is dry you can peel of the tape along with any drips.
Thanks for the tip and leaving your comment Melissa. I have tried that method too, but also found it was possible to get pieces of tape locked into the resin if it dripped and cured around it in the wrong way. Will give it another go!
Hi Chris. Thanks for your response. When I am performing covering the photo or painting with the epoxy, I just trying not to let the resin come to the back of the peace and stop on the top only. That is taking much longer to control this process and that is why I am asking the professional, how to handle that. Most of the people covering the back of the picture with the tape and then clean it, but in this case they always have a trace of the epoxy any way and they have to paint over this places or cover with other tape again. Sanding the back of the picture also take some time and efforts.
Thank you
Sorry Chris, but in your video you did not show, how you protected the back of the picture from epoxy baubles? That is very important in this process.
thanks for your comment Gregor. at the end of this one, I mention the sanding of the back side in this instance. sometimes I'll brush continuously to keep smooth if I can babysit it. I had bad experiences with using tape to try and peel it off later though so I'd recommend against that. what is your preferred method to avoid them Gregor?
UV resistant, ?Im thinking of using it over wood for my boat for the name ,
Tks lots u wife have skills mixing
thanks! and that was fast forward, if you were trying to keep up to her, I'm sorry. hahaha.
Can I use this on a metallic panoramic photo print? Not actually metal but a metallic look. I wasn’t sure because it’s thin. Not like a thick canvas. Thanks
I've used similar products on Metallic paper before with good results. You should be good. Could always do a little test on a tiny piece of the metallic paper if you're concerned.
How long did it take to cure?
So which method of finishing your prints do you prefer then? This or the Mod Podge?
This gets a way better finish to it, feels much more durable. I've been using the brand Art Resin lately though, works the same, only apparently it doesn't yellow like this brand might (with time in the sun I'm told)

Can you use it for tiles? I’m making coasters also do you know if it can withstand the heat from the coffee mug or cup?
i've only used it for art pieces, so i have no advice for you. good luck though!
Chris Gardiner Photography Thanks
It is heat n cold resistant and uv non yel, owing it can be used over acrylic pours and use as a pour with pigments just like acrylic pouring. Hope that helps also there are vids o. CZcams to show how to use
Thanks for this video. I have a question. Can I use acrylic paint or another kind color with this resin ? Thanks In advance !!!
i'd recommend just going for it, if the paint itself dries and cures properly before epoxy i'd imagine it will be fine. i've tried this one and many other types. sorry I can't be more help.
all the best with it!
yes you can
We want to make a tackle top with this what can we pour this on and peel off after we’re done
Table top
hey Cathy, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I haven't tried anything similar to what you're asking but my first test would be on one of those high temp silicone mats for baking. obviously you'd need a more sizeable option for a table, but this might be a good trial candidate on a test pour anyways.
What can I use for mixing cups? I'm using a 32oz package
Clean buckets
Can I use this to waterproof blue foam, then use it as a pour to look like water in a train layout??
thats a great question Kenneth. Can't say I've got any experience in using it in that manner. But I have seen some very cool work with products like this that would suggest its probably worth a try!
have a look over here; www.backwooddesignco.com
they also have a CZcams channel where they share how to do it yourself. different product but maybe similar process.
all the best and thanks for the comment.
what is the differance between envirotex and envirotex lite?
well, I've never seen regular "envirotex" without the "lite" so I'd question whether it actually exists. "lite" may just be to make it sound better like a bit of a marketing gimmick. haha
when I use torch ?after or before it dried ?
before it dries.
you do the torch to pop the bubbles so that is best to do when it's still wet mim mim.
thank you
Could you use this on cups?
i don't think so because its a curved surface. this needs to cure on a level surface.
Have you ever heard of using Acetone to 'pop' out the bubbles? A woodworker said to apply the Acetone with a spray bottle before the resin dries. I'd like to know your opinion.
What mask are you using?
what is the name of your video's background music?
Hey Jack. Good question. I made this video so long ago and the music is so quiet that I can't give you a proper answer now. One thing I do know is that it would have come from "czcams.com/users/audiolibrary" which is where I find a lot of my music for videos. If you search for "attribution not required" tracks, it should be in there somewhere. Sorry I couldn't be more help. good luck searching. there's lots of suitable tracks to use on that link too so if you don't find this one, you'll certainly find something.
To which material the envirotex does NOT adhere? I have to make a "frame" for it and then remove it. I tried with styrofoam with no success.
good question.
i did do one on a silicone baking sheet mat and that worked well - the work piece lifts right off after. . I also wanted to try and do a bead of silicone caulking around the top lip to see if I can stop the resin from dripping down sides and hopefully make my resin coat even thicker on the top - and then the caulking should peel right off after the resin is cured. .
who else is making their big a paddle?
Can you add mica powders to it?
great question! can't say I've tried but I don't see why you couldn't.
Thanks for your comment and good luck with it!
@@cgardinerphoto it works 😊
Hi does it yellow over time?
So far, with this product I haven’t had any issues yellowing over time.
Thanks for your comment!
Not sure if it’s my 📺 but the audio is on a very low frequency. FYI
it's not you it's me. haha. my V/O setup at the time I made this video wasn't that great. sorry
Is this nit the same resin that people use to make bookmarks and keychains with?
while there are lots of brands of resin out there, yes I am sure some people are making those things with this product as well. I've also used art resin which is another similar, and high quality product.
Thanks for watching!
Why changing the cup and mix it again ?
it ensures if there is any unmixed portion clinging to the edges of cup, that they get worked in properly after changing the cup. some may say unnecessary but it's more of a precaution so you don't accidentally have a ruined piece because part of the mixture didn't cure properly.
What if i don't do the double cups and 3 minute mixing?
you might be fine, but you might also run the risk of not having the mixture blended properly, so you could run into soft / runny / improperly set parts of the finish.
Ah, thanks. I only mixed for about 1 minute and it seemed to mix fine. My project has been going for 12 hours and so far the outer layer has been dry and not liquid, a little tacky but i cant blame it for only being 12 hours.
Is not necesarry to use 2 cups as long you do the mixing right.
I did something similar with stodoys instructions.
Star Karan cool. Never heard of that before but thanks for mentioning. Looks like it could be super useful!
@@cgardinerphoto It is. All the best to you Chris. Nice videos on your channel. I love to work with high gloss too ;)
I notice you didn't show the final result...
Jer 1967 hey Jer ya I guess not - really the final result looks exactly like the 'wet' uncured result. I made the video from the footage my wife had captured and didn't shoot anything extra. Thanks for your comment
If your work piece is level then the pipe on the wall is not level :)
I'll get you the number of the guys that built the place a few decades ago, they may appreciate the feedback. haha.
@@collingwoodrealestate LOl, good one!
A level base would have been a better start!
Jer 1967 yes it's important to have a level work surface or you'll get a very uneven cured surface.
This one was levelled first or it probably would have had all the resin slide off.
Why transfer to another container? That seems like a completely useless step, if you know how to properly mix two component coatings. Seems to me, especially if you'd used cups with smooth sides, rather than ones with fluting around the sides, you could have done all the needed mixing in the same container. I've mixed a lot of 2-part coatings, from paint to Floor Restore, and none of them needed to involve a second mixing container.
hey fair enough Mary Ann. I won't disagree with you, but just demonstrating manufacturer's instructions here. feel free to lodge your complaint with envirotex though. ;)
