Listening to happy music when you are sad can be worse than listening to sad music. The contrast between your emotions and the stimuli can be jarring and may cause the mind to reject the happiness as fake and alienating. You need to take advantage of emotional contagion and listen to music that nearly matches your current emotional state and then gradually improves.

I have some advice, too. I hope this will help you:
    • Time management. Make a planner with important and necessary things. Write notifications on your phone so you'll get them on time if you forget about them.
    • Doing something. Yes, when I'm anxious about something (test, presentation etc) I go and prepare everything I will need for that thing. Work makes me think about work 😅
    • Hobbies. I. Love. DRAWING! I draw every day and it helps me a lot to deal with stress. Find your own hobby and do it when you're anxious :>
I really hope this will help and sorry for bad english 😅
    Have a great day!

I decided to start my own channel to inspire others who feel ugly and not good enough for this world..I moved to Barcelona to build a new life. I want to show others that it's all about positivity and energy.. and that with the right mindset, you can overcome any mental or physical hurdle if u just learn to love yourself! positive energy trumps any physical shell! go check me out and subscribe if u want to help me reach my goal of helping others who lack self-love.. it would mean the world to me!!

Maybe it's related to the social media but obsessive news watching / reading causes me no end of anxiety. I'm diagnosed OCD, and news watching happens to be my compulsion but I suspect I'm not alone in this.

    • @aiquesono
      @aiquesono Před 6 lety +1

I don't watch the news, I have no idea of whats happening in the world right now lol, except for what happens at home or at work and I don't f care about the news, some people say it's good to stay informed and blah blah blah, but c'mon 98% of what the media shows is useless and biased, so why bother. for my own sanity, I'd rather not watch/read it. I come from a country where the crime rate is high, so if I watch the news I won't leave my room (I already don't lol)

Mahatma Kane Jeeves Yep. That's exactly how I feel. It doesn't help that I'm a South Korean resident during times of threats of nuclear war. That's all calming down now but my anxiety remains.
I think the hormone you're referring to is serotonin. I get migraines, too, which have links to serotonin deficiencies. I think people with anxiety actually produce too much adrenaline and causes us to be in a constant fight or flight state. I could be wrong on this so please let me know if I am.
Anyway, it's good to know I'm not the only one.

It's all about finding a balance. Too much lying brings me anxiety but also too much doing things and not letting myself rest brings me anxiety too. The same is with isolating and too much socializing. Anxiety is there not to make your life miserable, but to remind you that you have to change something. And if you refuse, you'll stay stuck.

For me it really helps doing some excercise, usually is just a walk every other day, when i stop doing it, it makes more difficult for me going out when i need to. And also getting away from social media at least 1 hour and do anything else, i usually do this when i am too stressed but it really helps, and my last tip is DON'T MULTITASK, i realized that actually doesn't make me save time as i thought or the time i saved was just a little and i got a huge amount of anxiety (at least for me), just take your time, concentrate and enjoy anything you do. :)

This video has been the answer to my prayers, I've been feeling like this for months and it's because of sleep deprivation and some if not most of these guilty pleasure habits. Only recently I started go to bed an hour or two earlier for work at 6:30am and I avoid caffeine in the mornings just warm milk or water. As well as avoiding sad music and keeping busy with tasks and focusing on my life and social life, financial goals, career goals and many other aspects of myself. With a healthy routine and diet and exercise and balancing work, family etc.
Over a day or two I felt the difference so quickly in my mood, thoughts, emotions, and I felt so energized and no longer irritable I took a complete 180. Hope this helps someone out there with this issue especially introverts like myself :)

Could you make a video about careers in the mental health field? I’m a high school student and I’ve been researching some of them because I know for sure I want to go into this field. If you gave a general list of careers such as types of councilors, psychologists, or social workers, and gave a description of them and maybe a general scope of what they do, that would help tremendously. I always look forward to your videos, I can’t thank you guys enough for making them. Keep up the good work!!❤️

This is soooo truee... All of it. I have borderline personality disorder and I use music almost all the time to help me "digest" some emotions that cannot be repressed and elevate my mood when I need to. Also when I need to concentrate for a high detailed labor like a report or something, certain hard music can help (depends on your taste in music, for example Judas priest), for artistic work I use the Bach's Goldberg Variations. For doing things at work when I'm not energetic I hear daft punk and madeon, depends all the time and music is like a therapy for me. But this works for me... Might not for everyone.

I think you should make the list 10 things. One of them including too much sleep, and another could be drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes. When I wake up anxious everything I know I need to do seems too overwhelming and I end up going back to bed. When I wake up I feel worse. Or when I get home from a stressful day I just want to drink wine and/or
smoke a cigarette. But I often feel worse the next day. Or feel like a bum for just sitting at home on the couch instead of going out with friends.

Get more sunlight. It will reboot your pineal gland. Eat early in the day, and sparse dinner. Get off the bright computer an hour or two before bed. Dim your lights, if you can.
      Exercise more, tire yourself out.

    1. I physically cannot do more than walk around my apartment, or walk my dog more than 40 feet. I have a bad ankle, which I have had for eight years now. Swimming doesn't help either, as the movement will make it hurt once I'm back home. I also cannot be a couch potato, as I have to move around..
    2. I have diabetes (type 2) so I can't skip meals..I eat a lot of fish and berries..They haven't increased my mood...Or kept depression away, as I have crippling depression at 21..Had it at 16 too..
3 (or 4). I personally don't like coffee, but I will have caffeinated drinks, as caffeine actually helps me sleep.
4 (or 5). The only social media I use, are FaceBook Pages Manager, and CZcams. Sometimes DeviantArt. I role play on Pages Manager, and I listen to music, gamers, vloggers, and list makers on YT. I don't have friends outside of the internet anymore, they left me after I came out as trans, and because they found me boring, for not partying, drinking alcohol, or doing drugs (aside from caffeine and sugar). My family are also too high energy and loud for me..
5 (or 6). I have Chronic Insomnia, Comorbid Insomnia, Chronic Nightmares, RLS, and Exploding Head Syndrome. Sleep is not a friend anymore. Only 2 hours of sleep at a time, four if I'm lucky..Often only half hour naps, and sometimes no sleep at all, like right now (it's 3AM, I've been trying to sleep for five hours now..After waking up at midnight yesterday..) Blue light from the phone actually makes me tired. As does "warm" light, and natural sunlight.
6 (or 7). I love being alone, I can get things done, like chores. Being around others drains what little energy I have, especially when around my family. My best friend actually lives all the way across the country from me, and I have no other friends, aside from my dog.
7 (or 8). Upbeat music, yes. Calming music, nah, unless it's Classical. Not really sure if any of the music I listen to is "moody."

I've heard that research actually says the opposite is true about music- that sad music can make you feel understood and "empathized" with when you feel sad, while happy music can make you feel isolated and misunderstood, or judgemental of yourself for not being happy "like everyone else." Thoughts?

I'm so guilty of staying up too late and consuming caffeine. And my life as a psychologically disabled housewife/mom means I spend most of the year alone. Yes, it will make you batty! Some other things I have noticed that are not on the list are clock-watching, keeping on top of all of the world news, and caring about things like trends and the opinions of people you will never meet or see. Oh, and smartphones! My goodness, I think they are the worst of all. It seems like everybody I meet is glued to their phone, constantly checking it every time it makes racket and checking it even more when it is blessedly silent. They count the minutes between texts and try to use the powers of mathematics to predict when the next call from so-and-so will come. They don't dare silence the phone even when there are signs up, and crash shopping carts and even cars into others because they just can't stop talking or texting for 5 minutes of the world will explode or something. I'm either a millennial or what they used to call Generation Y, and yes, I think smart phones are pretty darn cool. But I'm certainly not going to let them run my life like that. I've got enough stuff to make me anxious already!

I have a question based on #6 ‘You don’t get enough sleep’.
I work overnight shifts. Before working overnights, I was in University. After I graduated high school, my sleep schedule changed from normal to nocturnal (stay awake during the night). Obviously, because I’m in university, I would have classes during the day, so I won’t have a proper sleep schedule during the day. But what if one doesn’t have anything to do during the day? Does being nocturnal, or even working overnight shifts, affect the hours one needs to sleep?
I don’t know if it’s just me, but here’s what I’ve been experiencing with overnights. For 3 semester, I did not attend University. I would work from 10pm-7am. I get home at 8am. I sleep for like 5 hours, so till 1pm. Between 1-4:30pm, I would watch TV while eating lunch. From 4:30-7:30pm, I’ll go back to sleep again, then wake up at 7:30pm to get ready for work at 10pm. Times would vary, but it’s mostly me sleeping twice before my next shift. Is this a healthy sleep schedule, or it just increases my anxiety, and how?
