Just watched Blues Brothers on VHS tonight. It is one of the best comedies ever made. Also, one of the best musicals ever made. Every second is classic.
I think it's awesome you watched it in VHS. I had it on VHS YEARS ago. It's now been replaced with a DVD, a Blu-Ray and a 4K disc...but there's something awesomely nostalgic about watching it on VHS... (I was only 6 when he died, but I still miss Belushi...the best guy that broke out of SNL.)
It was actually on tv last night. (Edited) I’m sure
@@Jolers63 Oh my God...be quiet. Enjoying the film does not mean endorsing drug use. If you want to reject every film that was made while drugs were on the set, you're going to be cutting out probably more than 50% of the films in Hollywood.
@@ozzie4306 I remember the first time I watched it, I was around eight and it had a Network showing. Then I saw it again on VHS when I was older and remember thinking, "This wasn't in the movie before. And this wasn't in the movie before."🤣
My Mom rented that movie for me when I was 12. She didn't know it was R rated because there was no rating on the box! 😂
RIP 🙏 John Belushi can't believe it's been 42 years 😢 💔
Hard to believe this newscast is now 42 years old.
And the writer 🤬 his YOB(year of birth)
And yet John's brother Jim went on to be a successful TV and movie star.
That NCAA championship teaser ended up being for a fantastic Georgetown vs North Carolina game. Freshman Michael Jordan made the winning shot for North Carolina.
@@sherryhannah498 Yes to all the above!
@@sherryhannah498 what Worthy did that night, I enjoyed for years afterwards as a Showtime Lakers fan. That game was epic. Georgetown had Patrick Ewing, and Sleepy Floyd who often killed the Lakers when he was with Golden State.
Luv the old commercials
Me too
Gene Siskel...man I liked to hear his thoughts about movies. His words here about Belushi are touching.
That George Ryan ad from Jim Thomson that didn’t hold up well.
I woke up to the news of John Belushi’s death. The family was in the living room and the Blues Brothers was on, after the end credits ended they put up a photo of him with 1948-1982 below it.
It was around this time that sister station WCBS Channel 2 in New York, after opening with a knockoff theme since 1979 (and using it in advertising beginning in 1978), began playing "follow the leader" and using Dick Marx' original theme as played on WBBM since 1975, on their newscasts.
About four months after he died, “Blade Runner” came out, and one character, in the context of the short life span of an advanced artificial life form he created, states: “The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long.” Instead of merely lamenting Belushi’s relatively short life, I’d prefer to believe that we all got to witness a shooting star burn brightly, and that we should savor the memories and the TV and film content he left us, and be glad we got to witness it. If asked the question, “Where were you when you heard John died?,” in my case, I was preparing for the biggest shift in my young life, as my family and I were planning a move to Texas when my dad got transferred, and I had to leave my beloved Chicago, family, and friends at age 13 and start anew (we left the same week “Blade Runner” came out no less). I eventually adjusted to Texas and started a great new chapter, but I didn’t pay attention to Belushi’s death like I should’ve at the time, being barely a teen who didn’t pay attention to Big Things yet, but in hindsight, this time of transition always will be bittersweet.
That’s how Siskel will remember him. Dancing sweaty happy and higher then shit.
It's interesting that John Belushi did a parody of Gene Siskel's favorite movie _Saturday Night Fever_ on _Saturday Night Live_ with _Samurai Night Fever..._

I remember when John passed away-He was extremely talented!
It's very sad that he's gone!! RIP MY FRIEND!! YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
Speedball City
Crazy that I was only 3 years old when John Belushi passed and yet I remember my parents and neighbors talking about him when it happened.
Unreal to believe it's already 42 years. Unreal.
Most important takeaway - live life to the fullest!
I remember seeing this on the news. I was 11 years old. There was a CZcams channel that said John Belushi was reading a script for a movie called Atuk when he passed away. And every comedic actor who has read or seen that script has died. The last person to see the Atuk script was Chris Farley. 🤔
No mention of drugs at all on the newscast. There had to at least be a suspicion of drugs, as everyone knew of his addiction. Eventually, it did come out. Funny guy.
Years ago I read the book "Wired". Carrie Fisher was also there the night he died. Drugs.
The woman they spoke of was most likely the one who provided the coke and dope for the speedball that killed him..I totally forgot her name but she was also gordon lightfoots ex.
You'd better take care, if you find her creepin' round your back stairs...

"Sundown" by Gordon Lightfoot.
@@Albendova666
Cathy Smith who was a backup singer for Lightfoot and others including The Rolling Stones .
I remember watching John Belushi with Gene Siskel on Channel 2 News at 6pm in 1981 way before he passed away, while watching Hogan's Heores on WGN-TV Channel 9
Fun fact. The film Ghostbusters was originally supposed to be a vehicle for John Belushi. Dan Akroyd was writing it to help his friend out of his acting slump at the time. Shame John couldn't have just hung on a bit longer.
@@sherryhannah498 Yeah. it's a classic.
John Belushi and a young, upcoming talent by the name of Eddie Murphy. Mindblowing.
IIRC, after his death Slimer was based on his Bluto character from Animal House.
Even more classic Dan found out about John right in the middle of writing movie "Spies Like Us" with Dave Thomas. SCTV delayed production ultimately a month as a result. Brian Doyle gave a good tribute for the next taping of #SNL which is on #Peacock
Loved that CBS Late Movie intro
Cathy Smith was a police informant.
This was the most saddest moment in Chicago entertainment 😢 💔 way before I was born
At 28:00 Lee Elia watching his language and being quite a gentleman!
Also love the long close on this one!
His clubhouse rant is epic, and spot on.
“Because if they’re the real Chicago f-- fans, they can kiss my f-- ass right downtown and PRINT IT!”
Blues Brothers is one of my favorite comedies! One of the great classics. John Belushi died far too soon.
6:10 - The second guy from left here is Lance Kinsey (Lt. Proctor from the Police Academy movies) and the third is Danny Breen (from Not Necessarily The News.) Does anyone recognize the others?
The one on the left was Tim Kazurinsky who shortly went to SNL around that time and when on to play officer Sweetchuck in the "Police Academy" movies
I don't think that's Tim Kazurinsky.
Ya I just recognized those two as well.
Haha i knew i recognized him.
@FuzzyMemoriesTV
Can you please try to upload $20,000 Pyramid from November 7-11, 1977? Thanks.
John Belushi was the greatest actor of all time. He was my hero. 😭🩷
As far as I can see, he never topped his routine on March on a famous "Weekend Update" with Chevy Chase in 1976.
Are you kidding? Blues Brothers, man...
@@FuzzyMemoriesTV - What more can I say? I was never really a part of "the herd" in terms of things like that. I've long been on a different wavelength than the rest of the populace.
I remember seeing John Belushi's death report on our local stations, too.
Months after his passing, channel 7 showed the Blues Brothers on the ABC Sunday Night Movie in October of '82. And for the balance of the 80s, channel 9 showed Animal House number of times.
Plus it was 49 not 48
6:28 Is that guy with the tie from Police Academy?
Didn't know Gene Siskel was on Channel 2.
.38 cents for a head of lettuce; .39 cents/lb. for chicken!
Back in the day when CBS & affiliated stations were the " standard" not so🔥🔥in 2024, I get " them changes"
Terrorism. Bad news. Inflation. GEE, SO MUCH has improved!!
Was that Dan Akroyd opening the door? 2:55 🤔
Nope, looked a bit like him though.
KUSI-TV in San Diego (in the early 90’s) stole their news theme. And all of this looked great for 1982.
"Natural Causes" ? BS.
When i used to shoot dope and coke at the same time we called it doing a belushi
It is known and called SPEEDBALLING not Belushi.
@@janetoconnor3636 how are you gonna tell me what we called it? I know that others called it speed balling. WEEEE called it a Belushi, God damn know it all
@@illmerica322 I call trading you to get Belushi back a Belushi.
@@janetoconnor3636 - Referring to speedballing as a "Belushi" reminds me a bit of the references to the telephone as "Ameches" for years after the movie "The Story of Alexander Graham Bell."
I've seen it all.

3:50 “What he enjoyed doing most?” Speedballs, apparently
I wonder now if the title of Mel Brooks' 1987 flick "Spaceballs" was a play on that term.

The CBS late movie predicted covid 19 shot🤣. But damn now I want to watch that late movie.
Ah, thats when Carlos the Jackal was a big thing.
Cathy Smith gave him the lethal dose. She was a groupie type and backup singer who knew the Byrds and who was a femme fatale girlfriend of Gordon Lightfoot in the early seventies.
Gordon (RIP) wrote and sang Sundown about his turbulent relationship with Cathy. Professor of Rock had a significant segment on the story behind Sundown: czcams.com/video/9tM_y4Dwk0I/video.html
John Belushi girl questioned and released after 4 hours Cathy Smith on entertainment tonight she sounded wasted interview audio only
2 out of the first three commercial in 2024 would big pharma and burger King
"Natural causes."
Susan Anderson was substituting for Walter Jacobson who had the evening off by teaming up with Don Craig in this newscast
It was mentioned in the description that she was . . .
Bulls before Michael Jordan
Susan Anderson is a beautiful anchor woman!
As far as I'm concerned, this was the death of hip-hop.
Sooo many parallels, first of all Gene who are you calling a "wimpy kid" Steven Bishop was older than John (I think) at time of filming of "Animal House". I took my date out to the Wells St. theater 2018 and not much changed😊 Although due to passive #IOLTA attorney misconduct, I know how much my date still appreciated my ❤felt gift, a lifesized framed adverising poster for her bday of ABC Album Artist Steven Bishop ad poster for one of his albums ❤❤❤
Had to check my AT40 book and it's instead ABC Singles Dunhill Album Artist Stephen Bishop, (poster from Careless album as gift) also explains report by "Parker" and our trip to Florida fol spring and how MIN Twins got idea to use #plexiglass in LF spring '83❤❤❤ and later run ins with local MSP news personalities by both me and my exes😊

Whatever happened to Don Craig ?
Didn't he work in Los Angeles w/ another former Chicago newscaster Chuck Henry?
I thought he overdosed on drugs.
2:33 they mess up the his YOB irresponsible writer 😡
So valuable! 👍
I have a very vivid memory of watching the nightly news cast on this date and seeing the news that Belushi had died. I was 9 years old and sleeping over at a friend's house for the first time. We were allowed to stay up late because it wasn't a school night. I was in a sleeping bag on the living room floor. Because of the announcement of his death, this memory has always stuck with me.
