Exploring Old Madras and Eating Tandoori Chicken. 🇮🇳

  • I left modern Chennai to go explore old Madras using the city's impressive metro system to get there. Compared to the Bangkok MRT that I've rode literally thousands of times, the Chennai Metro is spacious and cheap.
Exploring the old town in the baking sun was hard work but fortunately there were many street vendors selling delicious fresh juice, so there's no excuse not to be hydrated. I had four glasses of juice in the first half hour.
I headed from the Madras High Court metro station to Parry's Corner, that the hotel concierge said was a landmark in the old town. When I got there I didn't see much action. It was a Sunday and most businesses were closed. It was still interesting to explore the old streets and check out the colonial era buildings.
In amongst all the old stuff I found a very modern looking restaurant. It looked very out of place so I went in to have a look and a small snack. They had a tandoor oven and served meat so Tandoori Chicken was the easy choice. It had been difficult to find meat restaurants at this point on my India travels so I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity of some good protein.
With a fully belly I gave my two strong legs a rest and let someone else's do the work. I took a cycle rickshaw instead of walking to my next destination.

Considering poor people have some capital to start their own small side business can make some living but what about those people who don't have anything who don't have a rupee to their name!! and no one not even the government who shld take care of them shunn them!! and then these helpless people get drawn towards bad influences and/or gets exploited by criminals and mafia organizations against which no one questions or does anything, because no one give a damn about these people, what shld those people do then?? they just rot on the streets and die, and why? just because they got born on the streets or some poor mans hut, just cause they were born in those and many such circumstances which we cant even think about!! what shld ours and this governments responsibility be towards these citizens? They are a citizen of this country after all right, don't they deserve to be accepted in society and get help, don't they deserve a chance to work?? If no one is willing to help them what shld they do then? My intention is not to argue or debate, its just my observation and curiosity which I stated here. Thanks for your time.

There were none I could find in the quick internet searches I did, but as an Indian living in the USA it is hard for me to see some of the changes that are happening there.. here's how they used to make it (you can do it at home in Scotland)
      1. Add petals from 5 mid sized roses to 1 liter distilled water (water must be heated to 75 degrees celcius before adding petals )
      2. Cover container with airtight lid and let it sit in the fridge for a 24 to 36 hours. Filter out the water with a sieve if you don't want the petals in your drink, or just blend the whole thing together into a thicker mush using a powerful blender
      3. Your rose water is ready
      4. Add 1 part rosewater to 2 parts milk , some ice cubes and add sugar to your taste and blend it .. the milk you choose (whole/skimmed/ 2%) will determine the thickness of the final rose milk .. so choose the milk you like.. I personally would prefer the 2% milk
      5. Your drink is ready (you can add a pinch of pink food color to make it look like the drink on the streets .. but this is optional)
