$1.50 Masala Dosa at Chowpatty Beach, Mumbai. 🇮🇳

- I wouldn't normally think of a beach as a place to visit in the evening but Girgaum Chowpatty is famous for it's local street food. There are around 50 vendors in a section near the entrance to the beach selling all kinds of desi delicacies.
The beach itself I found to be very crowded, even after dark. It seems to be a very popular hangout spot for the locals but personally I don't see the appeal of hanging out somewhere so busy and with no privacy.
Foods that I tried were a Royal Falooda, which contained saffron, basil seeds, jelly and something called Kulfi, which I had no idea what it was but determined to be similar to dairy fudge.
After starting off with dessert I then went in search of a savoury Indian main meal. I asked around for recommendations and that lead me to Dosa with masala potatoes. I'd tried Dosa before in Jaffna, Sri Lanka but this one was much better as it was cooked fresh. The one I had in Sri Lanka was cooked hours before I ate it and was stale around the ends.
Finally I tried a fresh dosa and it was delicious!
I ended the food spree with a few sugary drinks while walking back to my hotel. It's impossible to get a taxi during rush hours in Mumbai. The city is one massive traffic jam.

A moment for appreciation for those kids who subscribed but didn't take the reward as they knew it's too much and they didn't subscribed for any selfish motives they did it because they liked dale . Children have good English because they are going to school adults and street vendors don't have good English because they probably skipped school to start a business of street food stall.

What I love about your videos is that you not only show places to see in the cities you visit, a bit of the food but you also show the people. One of the great joys of travelling is meeting the locals, seeing how they live and hearing their stories. It's my experience people are proud and happy when you visit their country and generally they are happy to help you.
Great work Dale. Loving all your videos!
Great vid 👍

The thing you thought fudge is actually Indian ice cream made of condensed milk and fresh cream. It also comes in different flavours like saffron, pistachio, mango, strawberry, and so on 😊
sounds good
So Dale, dosa is basically a salty pancake made from a fermented rice and lentil batter
The white chutney along with it was made from dried coconut flesh and spices and the sambar is a lentil soup with a tomato base!
Hope that clarifies it😂
Faluda and dosa made me gain a 15lbs when I was in India! My other favorite Mumbai street foods were Bhel Puri (i was addicted) and Vada Pav... very popular in Mumbai streets. Really Great video, my college friends and I used to hang out at Chowpatty beach. You bring back so many good memories! Thank you!!
I like his attitude that he can just adapt any culture so easily❤️❤️
i swear. hes such an extro
Dosa is basically Rice batter that's heated so that it gets crispy.
A "Paper" dosa is a dosa that'll literally feel like paper.
A Masala dosa is a dosa which contains Boiled Potato with spices (masala) in it.
So, a paper masala dosa will mean a masala dosa that feels like paper.
Bro.. You can write thesis on Dosa and earn a Ph.D. in Dosa for yourself... LoL :D
🤣🤣 wtf ...only rice batter
Arrey Bhai Urad dal se Kya sambhar banaoge?
Try Ghee roast/ masala Ghee roast- a dosa made with ghee.. cleared butter. It's common in South India. Little crispy, and buttery, not too dry like paper dosa... Try it, it's best
Combination of urud dal and rice is called idli or dosa batter....amount of rice and urud dal you are adding that matter more...
0:23 look at the guy at the back
Lots of that in India 😆👍

Lovely and quiet peaceful activities at the beach. I have never seen so big bread but I am sure it was delicious and in the end of you video you looked very satisfied with your red drink. I enjoyed your episode.
The Dosa is a crispy crepe. The batter is made from soaked rice and soaked Urad Dal more or less, that is ground into a paste, fermented for hours and then put on the griddle into an oval in front of you. It’s an art to do it well to make a great dosa. Potato Bhaji made with onion and a few spices inside. Glad you ENjoyed it 👏🏼👏🏼😄

Very neat!! The food looked very tasty and the price was amazingly good! :) Also neat that so many people use the local beaches. There have been times in my City where I go to a huge beach and a nice beach to if I may say so and yet almost no one is around, like literally you would be lucky to see more than 4 people in a span of 5 or 6 kms of beach land! When old generation went to school English was optional, after 2000s English was main language and Hindi and Mother tongue (official language of state) are optional. So youngster and kids are better in English than older people.
Its all because of the internet.
Really, my parents went to a English school & I went to a English school in the 80’s when I was lived there as well as well as the rest of my family that is still there. Last time I was in Mumbai was a year before the virus & still find most people spoke English except mostly some street vendors and rickshaw drivers .. & I thought the main language of Maharashtra was Marathi, unless that has changed recently?
