    Paint pouring is just as much of a science as it is an art.... It is definitely not as easy as you would think it would be, so thank you for your awesome instruction! I keep trying...I think I have only done one or two paintings that I would actually hang in my house, lol.

    Great video Gina! So helpful to be able to see the differences in consistency next to each other!
    Personally I like fat paint lol I'm a 4 or a 5 girl for consistency 😂 I do add Liquitex Gloss Medium & Varnish to my paint and Floetrol though. I like the dried finish of the pouring medium, and I love the fact that I don't have to varnish it afterwards unless I want to. I find I can still get cells by stretching the paint a lot.. Interestingly, my last few bottles of Floetrol have been super thin.. so to maintain the consistency that I like I've been adding it just a little at a time instead of my normal measured amount (so that's another variable in the equation, Floetrol consistency).
    Btw.. *your* happy accident led you down a path.. I LOVED that path! It was so exciting watching you, thinking about the science and formulas and consistencies (I was a mad scientist lol).. and then I finally did it myself and it was amazing... literally life changing. Thank you for opening up those doors and for sharing your art with us.. you are one of a kind Gina! ❤️

    • @GinaDeLuca
      @GinaDeLuca  Před 4 lety +10

      I’ve heard other people say their Floetrol was thin. I just got 2 gallons and they seem fine. I really shake the bejeezus out of it before I transfer to my smaller container. And yeah, everyone needs to find their own path and what they are most comfortable with. Sometimes I add other pouring mediums. Sometimes for no other reason than “why not?” The experiment is half the fun!

    • @Elitecruisesuk
      @Elitecruisesuk Před 4 lety +3

      Mina Villegas Art any particular type of varnish that you use when adding to your pouring medium please?

    • @MinaVillegasArt
      @MinaVillegasArt Před 4 lety +10

      @@Elitecruisesuk it's already mixed in there.. Liquitex Gloss Medium & Varnish. I don't add any additional varnish, just the LGM&V and paint and Floetrol.. if it's super thick paint then it's gets some water too..
      When it dries it has a beautiful luster to it.. I don't usually feel like I need another coat of varnish on there.. but if I do I use Krylon UV resistant archival spray gloss.

      Mina funny thing is, when Gina was talking about 4&5 I thought immediately of you and Sarah mack Lol. I was thinking in my head of each of my favorite artists when each number was demo'd. For 1-2 I thought of Mely D and Courtney Hoelscher (I might have spelled the last name wrong, sorry). Coz Creations (who I personally love and think is so under subscribed to) is right in the middle. Hell, I have so many faves, including the lovely Gina here, Lol.

    Gina, you were one of the first artists I watched, and I have come to love this style of art....so thank you. The consistency problem is something I have struggled with too, but your video Along with Tammy Anderson's video (on mixing all colours first, adding floetrol, at ratio of 1:2, then matching all colours to the thinnest paint consistency) have added a wealth of knowledge and at the same time simplicity in solving this issue. A thousand thank yous. Hope your music is going well for you. 😁💐

    I wish I could give more than one thumbs-up to this. "Warm honey?" Yeah. I even ended up making a video about that and the other things people would compare their paint consistency to. I have been appreciating your "makes a mound" method which you've been using in your regular pour videos; it's even better to have this video which compares them side by side. And, YES, newbies tend to fall into the "I must find the perfect recipe!" trap -- and often follow other people's recipes slavishly and find they don't work at all for them, because they are using different brands of paint, or different colours, or metallics, or non-metallics, or are in a different climate, or don't adjust the mix to make the different colours consistent with each other. you hit the nail on the head that what is important is the consistency, and even more, that all the paints which one is using in the same painting have the same consistency as each other. And I've also appreciated the point you're making that different techniques may call for different consistencies. Me, I don't vary my consistencies because I value the convenience of pre-mixing my paints (and storing them in squeeze bottles) more than I value the control of adjusting on a per-painting basis, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth thinking about.

    Best video on CZcams regarding consistencies for acrylic pouring!!! THX SOOOO MUCH!! I’ve never found any other YT video telling what consistency works for which pour technique. I’m about to try consistency #3 for a flip cup. I hope my 60/40 - GlueAll/Water pouring medium works w/ this theory. I believe it will🤗 I will report back w/ results. EDIT: I finally did a triptych using 10” x 20” canvases that are wall worthy!! I’m so happy!! Thanks so much for this video. I used Floetrol as my p.m. and added water until i reached a #3 consistency. Maybe a 2.8. Colors were white (tiny bits), i alternated Monte Marte Old Gold and Deco Art 24K, Artists Loft Brilliant Blue, A.L. Aqua Green, and A.L. Light blue w/ a blob of Amsterdam Prussian Blue mixed in. I used 10 oz paint in my flip cup. I can’t remember if I layered by pouring down side of cup or gently layered on top of each other…darn it, I always try to keep my exact notes in my pour journal but for some dumb reason I didn’t write it down. I think I thought it turned out so well that I’d remember how I did it..rookie mistake😂 Question: what consistency is recommended for dirty pours?

    This is the best explanation for consistency and techniques I have seen yet. It is brilliant and we are able to see the consistency good in your camera. Thank you for this. I have been watching videos for over a year now and have been struggling with too thin consistency. I also like the tip about a thicker base for a swipe. I had thought my base was too thin causing problems but most videos I watch have said ALL paints must be the same consistency. I am sure I will have better luck with using a thicker consistency for my swipes. I found my design would end up spreading out and thought it may have been from my base being so thin as well as my paints. Thanks again. I like that you explained what works for you is the best receive however, your explanation helps so much in this video. I appreciate it so much.

    Thanks, Gina. This was really one of the most helpful videos I have watched. You covered so much from cell formation to consistancy of paint when pouring. Seeing the comparisons of showing paint viscosity at each level and explaining what viscosity for different techniques makes it easier to understand the hows and whys. I have been painting for years and have watched your videos for many months now as fluid art is new for me and exciting and very popular these days. I very rarely comment. Wow. This would have been a handy video 3 years ago. The challenge is getting all of my paints the SAME consistency. Thanks for sharing your experience. Love your videos

    Thank you so much. So clearly explained. The close ups were excellent. This will be my go to video whenever I am mixing. It's good to know that it's the consistency and not the mix that makes the most difference. We in the UK cannot get your version of Floetrol without importing it at greaat cost. Our version (Owatrol) is not good at making cells regardless of the fluidity of the mix, so if wanting lots of cells one has to use silicone. 😍
