2022 Polestar 2 Review - Better EV than Kia EV6?

- For this Thursday update, we have the 2022 Polestar 2 for our review. You might recall Polestar as the performance division of Volvo, but nowadays Polestar means Electric vehicles or Hybrid models. It seems like everybody is throwing electric cars or EVs into the market, but the 2022 Polestar 2 shines from the crowd with its stylish exterior and interior design. You can get Polestar 2 with either a single motor turning the front wheels or a dual-motor system working as an AWD system, and our tester came with the dual-motor system cranking about 408hp and 487lb. ft of torque, which is even more than Kia EV6. So, let’s go out and see how this 2022 Polestar 2 looks and drives on the road.

I ended up getting this instead of waiting for the Ioniq 6. Great car so far and really the drive is what makes it worth it.
Yes, I really enjoyed driving the 2022 Polestar 2. It's an great EV.
Placed an order 2 days ago. Let's hope our protectionist U.S. Congress doesn't screw up the $7.5k tax break.
Mine’s coming next month! Can’t wait!
Congratulations. Styling EV. Thanks a22fc for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review.
Great review as always
Thank you Joni for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review.
Great video! I'm going to buy this for sure. I went to test drive it a few months ago and I really like it. It also has a thing where if your at a stop light and a car is in front of you, but your distracted, it will let you know that the car in front of you moved
Yes, drives nicely and looks great!
Love the Polestar! Looks great and the interior is superb!
Yes, the Polestar 2 is an great EV. Thank you.
Great EV!! We placed our order for one. CAN'T WAIT!!!!
Hope you guys get your Polestar 2 soon. Congrats.
@@AsianPetrolhead Thanks!! Polestar was the only EV available that are not marking up their cars!! I will NOT pay over MSRP for any car, no matter how good the car is and YES I can afford it. But I am not STUPID!!!!
@@ctk4949 Can i ask how you get it or if you get an Polestar from a Volvo dealer ? i really like Polestar but i'm from Europe and in my country Polestar do not have any dealership to pre-test, see & check the car before making final decisions for payments.. tanks in advance, safe roads & enjoy your Polestar !
Excited? What a joke.
@@poplaurentiu4148 Hey sorry about not replying. I placed an order back in March in the US. We just got it last Saturday. Its a great car!! I heard they stopped 2022 orders for Europe, but 2023 is not available for order.
Great vid. Would like to see similar vid for single motor as I have placed an order waiting for delivery.
A very good EVO car, Polestar, you introduced. In the video, you were seeming to enjoy very much on your Polestar driving!!! :)
Yes, the old polestar was a fun car. Thank yo for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review.
Just drove a rental today. Yeah it feels good. Took 10 minute to get used to that single-pedal drive. However the backseat is mainly for kids or short adults. The seat is short and the back is kinda vertical. No adjustment also the back door is positioned towards the rear side which means you have to hold you feet when stepping outside.
The constant smile on your face as you drive it tells me everything I need to know. The shade is available for the 2023 yr model. Removable sun shade
Yes, TK. I really had a great time with the 2022 Polestar 2. Thanks.
Thank you for the great review! I absolutely love the Polestar 2. Is the color of the one you are driving thunder?
Really nice review, I love your enthusiasm!
I've ordered mine 2 months ago, but sadly the delivery got delayed to November/December.
But they gave me nearly 10k off, so I can't really complain.
Congrats and hope you get your soon!
@@AsianPetrolhead Thank you, I can hardly wait for it to arrive. Let's hope that the new leather interior looks also good in person
Another great video. I always enjoy your enthusiasm.
I was seriously considering this car but a few things kept me in the Hyundai/Kia camp when my final decision was made.
For one, the size. I was surprised at how much smaller the Polestar is.
Also, although they are now apparently making Apple CarPlay available for the Polestar, it's been problematic from what I've read. I like that both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatability have been part of Hyundai/Kia products for quite some time. It just gives you a few more options.
Finally, the glass roof with no sunshade is a dealbreaker.
When I realised that the Kia EV6 GT had an operational panoramic sunroof, I went right to my local dealership and put in an order.
Unfortunately, here in the Canadian market, I'll be waiting about 12 months for my new car to arrive but that's OK.
I'm still loving my 2017 Ioniq EV so there's no hurry for us to part company.
Yes, Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 is much larger car. And I am not sure about the Apple CAr Play long term reliability. But it seems to work just fine with our tester. Thank you for enjoying the Polestar 2 review.
I took six months to choose my car. Looked at the Mach e, EV6, Tesla 3, and the Polestar. Just didn't love the Mach E, nor the Tesla...from a design standpoint. Already have an X5 SUV, so wasn't looking to replace it just yet. Narrowed it down to the EV6 and the Polestar 2. It was a close contest, I test drove the EV6 - twice, but in the end chose the Polestar 2...overall my impression is that is was a better quality car with superior fit and finish all around and drives like a dream. The EV6's dashboard was too gadgety and the Polestar's Google operating system hands-down the easiest to use in the industry. IMHO
Yes, i think Kia EV6 and Polestar 2 are more handsome looking EVs. Thanks David for enjoying the Polestar 2 review.
I was able to test drive the Polestar 2 twice. It's certainly a very nice car, but in the end the EV6 won out for me, as I purchased a (USA spec) EV6 GT-Line AWD towards the end of February. The interior design and space of the EV6 is far better than the Polestar 2. In addition, it was less money than an equivalent specd' Polestar 2. However, as an Android phone user, I did like the seamless integration of the Polestar's Android automotive infotainment system.
Yes, both are nice EVs. Just gotta go with our life style. Thanks David.
I agree with you. Ev 6 id the best EV
Great overview! I have tried both Kia’s Highway Drive Assist as well as Volvo’s Pilot assist and actually found the Kia’s driving assists much better in terms of ease of use, staying centered in the lane, as well as making adjustments during driving.
Does anyone else find this as well? On longer road-trips I much prefer using the Kia system over the Volvo’s - but ultimately both work well.
Wow, Colin. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about driving aids. Thank you for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review.
@@AsianPetrolhead my brother had a rental k9. He said it was super aggressive n good.
I currently drive an EV6 and I consider the Polestar due to the chiseled look. But 310 miles of range and very fast charging pushed me to the EV6.
@@notjustanydad hows the real world range of the ev6?
@@shafiaahmad4061 last Saturday 155 miles of driving into Orlando from Tampa and back totalling 5hrs 48 mins. Some stretches of 70-80mph and a lot of stop and go traffic. A bit of idle time. Started with 257 ended with 60 miles. Would've been more but let the parents test it, a few good launches. About 50% Simi-autonomous driving.
It's a nice car and very fun to drive. But the next Polestars will be better because they're built on dedicated EV platforms. Still, the Polestar 2 is very nice. Thanks for the review.
Yes, I really had a great time driving the Polestar 2.
For me Kia EV6 design is much better than the polestar 2 !! really liked the memes which u used in between 😂 !! Thanks for the review Charlie!!
Thank you Aehsanur. We are trying new things. Thank you for enjoying our Polestar 2 review.
Interesting review as a friend of ours gets his in July but it doesn't quite work for us so we're most probably going for an Ioniq 5 as it looks a bit more comfortable and roomy than the EV-6.
Not really sure why you were excited by the battery on the bottom which is the usual place for a battery?
Yes, Kia EV6 and Hyundai IONIQ 5 is much larger car. But if you want something more compact and stylish, then the 2022 Polestar 2 might the perfect EV for you.
the ionic 5 and ev6 looks a lot more appealing to me. And i always giggle when i see the outside view of you in the car, it makes it look like youare driving a tiny car. but great review as always!
I am sorry for shrinking cars. I know Hyundai and Kia makes competitive EV models. But Polestar 2 can be very great alternative for people looking more stylish and compact EV. Thanks Scout.
Could you one day show how to fix a wheel in a real life situation with those tools? In a cold and rainy night for example? No just kidding in a nice sunny day like this. Always enjoy your vids
Well, I don't want to use the press car's kit. But let's see when situation calls. Thank you for enjoying the Polestar 2 review.
Fabulous presentation beautiful well designed quality car
Thank you Lawrence for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review.
I like both cars, but have bought 2 days ago the EV6. More space, better consumption and for me a MUST HAVE for a BEV is a 230V AC power supply and V2load. The EV6 feels more sporty because of the better stearing wheel feeling. The accelaration of the PS2 (4,7 sec to 100km/h) is faster than of the EV6 (5,2sec) but doesnt feel like this. The high speed of the EV6 (185km/h) is slower than of the PS2 (205 km/h) but I dont need it. The Android system I am missing in the EV6. If the PS2 has 230V AC and V2load, I had ordered one in the cheapest AWD version with the Moon or Midnight colour, because of the price. (51.900,- Euro here in Austria, but without heat pump). Volvo / Polestar, please implement 230V AC and V2load. Can't wait to get my EV6 AWD in Yacht Blue next week.
nice Kia EV6 is a lovely EV. Yeay, congrats . You will love yours in Yacht Blue. Thank you for enjoying the Polestar 2 review.
IMHO, the EV6 and this Polestar are both really nicely styled. I've recently seen both on the road, they're both quite slick looking.
Yes, 2022 Polestar 2 is looking sharp. Thank you ZiggyBoon.
Nice Simple lines. Like the gold seatbelt. Its unusual dont have start buton. Nice car 👌
Yeah, just sit down and go. Thanks Milan for enjoying the 2022 Polestar review.
The dual motor AWD alone ups it to 408hp, and if it has the performance pack, that ups it to 476hp with a 0-60 of 4.2.
Thanks Nate.
I am so glad you just released a video about the Polestar 2! That's the car I own at the moment.
I'm considering the Genesis G70 at the moment. How would you rate them against each other? And if your choice is the G70, would you still feel that way for the 2.0T engine?
Now that I think of it Polestar 2 actually feels very close to Genesis G70 in terms of dimensions. But G70 doesn't come with Full EV yet, so very different animal.
How do you like your P2?
@@tk6729 Smoothness is unrivalled, but the space is a bit cramped, rear visibility is poor and it doesn't go over bad pavement very well.
Other than those things, I think the car is great.
Polestar is seriously one of my favourite new brands atm. The Polestar 2 is of course great but they also make the Polestar 1 coupe, which is faster than a Bentley Continental GT (GT does 4.3 sec but Polestar 3.7 sec to 60) but around 60 000 pounds less expensive, *incredibly* rare (unlike the Bentley) and still very luxurious and high-tech. Also looks much much better than the Bentley imo. Dream car right there. 😄
Yeah, Polestar 2 felt very nice and sold. Thank you K P.
Great video!
Any ideas about how the consumption-difference between -21 and -22 is?
I believe Polestar 2 only comes up to 20inch rims. Thank you.
@@AsianPetrolhead i meant 2021 and 2022 😅
I love it, it's between this and the GV60 for me, as I daydream about buying my next car. It seriously looks like you're driving a bullet train the way everything is zooming past.
Yes, Paul. Polestar 2 is such a cool EV.
I traded in my Tesla M3 for a P2, best decision I ever made

Please can you do a short video of how to open the sunroof and close it
I would love to, but returned the car. Thank you.
Thanks for the comparison.
Ordered a KIA EV6 10 months ago, I'm beginning to think this was a mistake.
Why?
Well. M G. Both are nice EVs, just gotta choose according to your lifestyle.
@@sconfino Well, because KIA just doesn't deliver and doesn't maintain communication with customers either.
If you don't hear from the car you ordered for 10 months, that's anything but customer service.
The EV6 is a CUV, while the Polestar 2 is a sedan, so it doesn't surprise me that the Polestar 2 handles better than the EV6, but only slightly. And that is how impressive the EV6 is.
Yes, Kia EV6 is taller and is much larger car compared Polestar 2. Thank you.
@@AsianPetrolhead Great review buddy!
Nice review, Charlie. Polestar 2 is a hatchback, so at least it has more cargo space than a sedan. I wish there were more EV hatchbacks to choose from instead of all the CUVs.
And 50% longer actual distance
The EV6 is a station wagon, or if your in Britain, an estate car.
Charley was the review visibility hindered by the narrow-looking black area around the window?
No E M1. Visibility was quite nice for me with the 2022 Polestar 2.
That looks nice!! No price yet?
This Polest Star 2 starts at $38,400 MSRP after federal tax credit applied. Thanks.
Great review ! is polestar 2 coming to Canada ?
already on sale and on the ROAD look carefull you can see some already
On the Polestar website, you will see three Polestar space where you can have a look and test it : Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

I would love to see a FWD review and an EV6 58kwh RWD review
Oh that would be very interesting. Thank you for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review!
Nice review. I made an in-depth review of the Polestar 2 last year and enjoyed it quite a bit, but it is a bit small and the hump in the middle is pretty bad for passenger room.
Yes, Polestar 2 feels a bit small from the 2nd row seats. Thank you.
I really like the design and trust the volvo behind it but...it's the Geely part that's making me hesitant on it.
Excellent car! I wait for October ,2022 for polestar 3 release. Before I make my final decision
That's also smart move.
You get faster acceleration turning off the ESC?
Yes, I usually do. And also with the Polestar 2, too!
I like interior display placement
But those AC vents went above the dasboard
I have seen this Struggle with many manufacturers about the display placement and then the AC vents
which tesla and NIO have solutions for.
_No doubt Tesla has set the bar so high that everything hence forth will be measured to that standard_
Having my polestar 2 for about 7 months now, you’d be surprised that those air vents can still push a lot of air towards the cabin instead of just the roof. You can feel it hit your face actually lol
Yes, overall it comes with very clean and nice interior design. Thank you for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review.
A/C vents are very well placed...it works.
does this have power boost sticker showed 350kw , usually dual motor is only 300kw
our had 300kw. thanks for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review.
This one , the xc40 recharge and the GV60 and lol I can't decide ❗😳
Yes, there are just so many EVs out there. Thank you for enjoying our Polestar 2 review.
Is that infotainment screen also IOS compatible? Can't buy from a Chinese company.
Well, yes, it does come with Apple Carplay.
Tried both this week, did find Polestar 2 very low down and the smaller as a man over 6'
Thanks Connor25 for sharing your thoughts.
6:44 - this is the part where we see our friend Charlie about to go to KEC prison. 😅
LOL. We will be more careful. Thank you Philly for enjoying our Polestar 2 review.
It is either this or the Ioniq-6 for me. A VERY tough decision.
The ground clearance looks pretty ok or it because I not seeing it physically.
Yes, for an EV the ground clearance looks quite nice. Thank you for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review.
which one would you choose? EV6, Ioniq 5 or Polestar 2?
Kia EV6
Love listening to you but really this is a preliminary review that others have done much better. For instance you didn't bother to mention that you have the performance package with olin's suspension which is the best handling model but not one everyone will get. I agree about the paddle shifter Regen being the best thing around but the polestar is known to be the best handling EV and much better than the ev6.
what color is this model? magnesium?
Magnesium. Thanks.
EV of my choice atm.... very nice.
3:48 i also love that... big nice rear turn signal where you expect it and where you can see it.....unlike in kia/hyundai/genesis cars.
Yes, the Polestar2 looks sleek.
This is what a 4-door version of the second gen Scion TC would have looked like.
Beautiful vehicle, but in Latin American countries there is a huge lack of infrastructure (chargers) for EVs. Plus, altitude works negatively for the battery's life and performance... greetings from Latitude 0°
Ah, hope you guys get more charging infra. Thank you Miguel for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review.
Charging outside the US for road trips isn’t a happy prospect. Altitude however has nothing to do with EV batteries. As a matter of fact EVs have no change in performance in high altitudes unlike gas or diesel cars. Check out TFL EVs or Inside EVs, Out of spec motoring. Those guys are in mile high Colorado.
I'm between this and the EV6. Personally I prefer the Polestar's styling, but for some reason I really hate the transmission tunnel. It just makes it feel like an in-between model while they sort out a proper EV platform like Kia/Hyundai and VW/Audi. I test drove the Polestar today and enjoyed it; personally like the size and I've two young kids that will fit fine in the back. I still may end up going for the EV6 because of that stupid transmission tunnel.
Well, EV6 is very nice EV, too. You just gotta see it person and choose which one fits better with your lifestyle.
@@AsianPetrolhead For sure, and thanks for the great review!
The Polestar 2 compares more with the Tesla Model 3 or the BMW i4 than the EV6. Actually the GV60 is probably the closest Korean EV to the Polestar in size and max performance (at least until the EV6 GT comes out). I don't know if the BMW i4 hatchback (either the M50 or the eDrive40) is available in Korea, but i think that would be a great EV to review. It performs even better than the Polestar 2 (especially the M50 with adaptive suspension and air suspension). The only issue (besides the rabbit teeth) is that it's very heavy. The single motor eDrive40 is slightly heavier than the dual motor GV60, while the M50 is over 5,000 lbs or almost 2,300 kg. It's also a little more expensive (around $55,000 -$75,000) than the GV60 will be. But for a non-dedicated platform, it is very impressive. Like Hyundai/Genesis/Kia, BMW's EVs are much more better built (the actual car parts besides the batteries and motors, like the body, paint, chassis, suspension tuning and interior) than the Teslas. Much more premium and luxury. Who would have guessed that the best carmakers would also make the best built and driving and riding EVs?
Thank you Jack. There are so many EVs lately. Just gotta choose according to your needs.
Styling not as attention grabbing as Polestar 1 Coupe Hybrid. It's just alright, very nice dash/cabin.
Yeah, but overall this Polestar 2 is more practical. Thank you DM 2MW.
This is Midsize Sedan Right Bro Charlie This is like a BMW 3 Series,Audi A4,Mercedes C Class or Tesla model 3
The 2022 Polestar 2 is classified as compact sedan. Thank you Rakhsi.
@@AsianPetrolhead you're Welcome

Thank you SPEED for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review.
I was unhappy with the steering feel of my Ioniq 5 AWD Limited, and test drove one of these recently. I found the seats sorely lacking side bolstering support, the steering to be lighter than the Ioniq’s in sports mode, and rear visibility practically non-existent. This car has a lot of potential, but it’s not on par with the Kia EV6 or Hyundai Ioniq 5 at their highest trims (which are still cheaper than this).
1:23 Why is there a very large hump in the back? EVs don't have a rear differential or exhaust so why is there a hump?
2:03 4.9 sec 0-60. Why is it so slow? AWD with 408hp and 487lb-ft torque. Something is wrong.
Oh, b/c Polestar shares its platform with Volvo XC40, which comes with AWD system. Thank you for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review.
Great and enthusiastic review, but I strongly advice you to go metric.
Thank you. We will go with both!
Performance wise and handling, the Polestar wins hands down vs the non GT EV6. Comfort for all occupants and ease of ingress/egress, the EV6 takes the cake hands down, not even close. I rented a all-wheel-drive through store two in Vancouver, I got to drive it up to Whistler and is pretty awesome. Luckily we only had two people because with with our seats back and relax there is barely any room for a size 4 shoe person in back. You’ll have to curl into a fetus position to get in and out for front and back.

Ev6 has twice better efficiency and 100% faster charging speed and has v2l and has much bigger space. For same distance, Polestar will cost twice charging money
Thanks for sharing good guy.
Korean battery technology is still too backward, and byd and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited in China have established patent barriers.🥹
Stylistically, the EV6 is a cool car and it is more spacious. But having driven both of them, Polestar 2 is far superior. Everything about the driving experience is better. Faster, waaaay smoother, quieter, braking...everything. And the quality of the Kia EV6 doesn't compare to the Polestar 2.
I tried purchasing the Polestar 2 but the wait time was several months for the one I wanted. I ultimately went with the Ioniq 5 limited. (Also better than the EV6 in nearly every way).
Thank you for your comment and enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review.
Polestar 2 is not smoother than an EV6 or quieter. Not sure which EV6 or Polestar 2 trim you drove? It is a nicer built car yes but a smaller interior, not as smooth ride and some of the tech is not as advanced. The PS charging and overall efficiency are subpar and Polestar service is not always nearby either.
@@keith78111 I live in Manhattan so no issues with proximity to a service center.
I drove the standard model Polestar 2 and the EV6 does not compare. This is obviously subjective. But having talked to several other EV owners, you're the first to prefer EV6 over Polestar.
Guapo guapo guapo guapo
Yes, Polestar 2 looks great!
Me recuerda a Volvo
I was interested in EV6, but California dealerships are adding $10,000 markups to the cars. With that markup present, the Polestar felt like a better value to me. I do wish there was a little more storage in the Polestar 2 though.
That is really bad. really hope the chip shortage goes away. Thank you Isaac for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 review.

The Polestar 2 is made at Geely and Volvo's “super factory” in Luqiao, China, along with the Volvo XC40 and the Lynk & Co 01.
Better than a Hyundai Ioniq 5 or the Kia EV6? The question itself is an offense to Intelligence! And I'm going to explain it to you: 1. The Polestar 2 lacks a Head up Display, much less if it's Augmented Reality like the Korean models have. 2. The Polestar 2 lacks the two-way V2L technology that the Korean models have to be able to charge another BEV or connect any electrical device. 3. The Polestar 2 lacks 800 volt technology, so its DC charging is only 150 kW, while the Korean models' DC charging is up to 250 kW. 4. The Polestar 2 lacks the interior roominess of the Korean models. 5. The Polestar 2 lacks the storage capacity in the trunks that the Korean models have and at a higher price. For this and much more, I prefer the two Korean models, rather than a Polestar 2.
Sounds like you guy like Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 better. Great.
@@AsianPetrolhead It's not a matter of taste, it's reality. The title of the video is unnecessary. You don't have to be very smart to know that the Kia EV6 is much better and with a lower price.
To me the big issue is that a Chinese company called Geely bought Volvo and Polestar. So, the profits those companies are making is going to China helping the government to continue their inhumane politics. I don't want to think of Uighurs in concentration camps every time I sit down in my car. Naturally, it's impossible to fully avoid Chinese products, but a car is so big investment that it truly matters. So, EV6 is the only option to me.
Yes, Geely acquired Volvo and Polestar. Kia EV6 is a great alternative, too. Thanks JuusoK.
They do look nicer than the KIA and Hyundai counterparts but I wouldn't buy one because I don't trust the Chinese quality.
Well, the Polestar 2 felt nicely put together. Thanks.
The quality is superb. Is as well built and well-finished as any Volvo.
A rebadged Volvo…how exciting 🙄
Hi Eric. Well, the 2022 Polestar 2 is really fun EV.
The performance pack is without doubt completely pointless.
Even if I want yellow straps with all my soul
LOL. Well, it's an option that you can certainly pass. Thank you for enjoying the 2022 Polestar 2 Review.
Not very attractive, and absurd yellow seat harnesses.
Well that's your opinion, i think looks super cool
Well, it looks pretty cool in person. Thank you.
